Ah.....

Im venting here..

there was this book I wanted to buy... found it on community buy-sale website...

the girl was selling the book for 2o$, haggled it to 15$

mind you, on amazon the book was going for 15.87
but I would have waited 1-3 weeks

the girl said it was used only once... I ask if there is any damage
she says no

I go pick it up this morning
Her mom answers, I ask her if she can put the book in a plastic bag since its snowing

she says sure, then she hands it to me, and says
its brand new

(i should have looked at it-

I am driving to work, i look at it , and there is a crease on the front cover, its not that bad, its not bent 9o degrees, but there is a crease going 4\5 of the book

I call the girl, tell her about it, she says
ok. call me later ill take it back (when im done work-

she later emails me.. says

you know, you got a good deal, I wont take it back, sell it to someone else...

man...

ugh

I know its not the end of the world, and its not even the money, its the principle...

its a book from a collection of other books, and i like to take care of my books, i know im not alone that takes care of his books and **** for 1$ more I could have gotten a brand new book...

I just feel I was wronged more than once with this...
I am sort of repulsed by the book now

and worst is, that I didnt let it go yet, I am planning on going to see her at her house, and talk to her parents, explain to them in a polite way

I think what gets me is that the girl doesnt seem to feel any remorse, if she does know it wasnt very right (imo i think it wasnt
, then she doesnt care..

I spoke to a friend about it, was comforting, said that, it belongs to her (the way she acted(
and that she really believes (from experience(, the universe brings balance, and that if she screwed me, the world will screw her

oh well!!!!

if you have any comforting words or rip off\wronged stories to share, please do

stop complaining already, you should of bourght it brand new for that price, dont be a little girl and talk to her perents, whats that going to acheave apart from getting her in to uneccesesery trouble?learn from your mistakes and dont buy 2nd hand stuff from the net and then whine like a spoilt child seeking attenction.well im just as bad for reading and answering you

thats the risk when buying used. anytime i buy something that can be bought used, i compare the prices and then weigh the options. books i dont care about and read once, then used all the way, but if the price difference is something like $1 like you said, why wouldn't you buy new? it really has to be some kind of a good deal for me to buy used. some people are stupid and incapable of keeping things in good condition.

Does a crease in the cover of a paperback make it unreadable?

Does a crease in the cover of a paperback make it unreadable?

nah, thats not the thing

for one its a book from a collection

it upsets me, because she didnt tell me the truth

also she told me shed take it back
and then changed her mind

i bought the book off the internet cause she said that it was read once, it was used for a project

oh well eh
im still gonna go over to her place tonight

i am upset a bit because, i would have never done what she did
i guess i am longing for justice

No comforting words but books are only vessels of imfortmation and with how TECH is ever changing books are turning into nothing but Heavy ass dinosuars!! It is sad but true!! I work for a big book co. Indeed you have a book collection!!! Noveltys that is what books will be in 25years IMO!!!! The information is what is important not the vessel!! Wtf are you upset about? It's your own fault.

thanks

I know there are ebooks and all that, but, its just not the same

books are great, I would have a hard time imagining them going away

How did she not tell the truth? Imo a crease is not real damage. The book is still readable, right? How was she to know you're a stick in the mud who wants everything perfect? If you wanted that you shouldve a) looked at the book before leaving her place b) couged up the dollar and wait a week for your own new copy. Buyer beware when buying used stuff online. You are certainly making a mountain out a molehill. I mean, really? Going back to her place tonight? Get over it dude. Gotta suck it up. When you buy something used most often it has the appearance of being used lol

I don't think people see the problem here. Believe it or not, selling books is a trade, industry and career in itself. Matters not if a book (or computer, stereo, furniture, etc.) is advertised online or in person. If an item is described as ''VG, only used once.'' it should be exactly that...Very Good and seemingly only used once. A book with a cover crease, no matter how insignificant, is in no way Very Good. That is why every online sales venue has a fraud/complaint department.

To most, yeah, a book is a vessel of information/knowledge. To others, a book may very well be of extreme importance in regard to Edition, collectibility, condition and huge financial importance. Doubt what I say? One needs only to glance here
http://www.biblio.com/rare-books/Antique__Collectible_Books-20-0.html
to understand that.

Fact is, an ignorant half-bright with no idea what she's doing is no excuse for an improperly described item. Anyone advertising any item, regardless of in person or online, needs to uphold traditional business standards. Once was a time when Book selling was one of the most precise and detailed trades around. As seen above, some of us take this whole ''Book condition thingy'' pretty f'ing seriously. Oftentimes, a specific title isn't available new and buying used is the only option. Used to be you could look that title up at any of the major book venues and trust the description provided. In the last decade, it has snowballed to the point of hilarity. One only needs to look up a random ''New'' book on Amazon to see books with signatures, gift inscriptions, worn edges, torn dust jackets...The list of flaws is endless. to see condition is a ''bit'' overlooked.

Fact of the matter is. The OP bought a product that was inferior to how it was described and the problem should be corrected.

who's to say it didnt get bent when it was only used once? if the book means that much to you, pay the extra $1 for a new copy

I'm a lot more into this than most and am well versed with traditional grading standards. This is from one of the most reputable sources out there. It's a very basic summary but a good generalization. I'm too much a ''Stick in the mud'' to abide by these and more conservative on my grading than this guide.

True but buyer confidence needs to be upheld regardless. An entire industry depends on it.

Luckily, I know the real deal sellers that can be trusted on their word. I'd go insane if I had to just pick a random, unknown seller to buy from. Although I'd had handled it differently than the OP in terms of inspection. You think he's a dick...I'd likely be inclined to throw the book through her picture window after hearing her response.

I suppose I value the nobility of one's word more than most.

You were aware the book was pre-owned by a girl who lives with her parents right? Why would you expect it to actually be in new condition also why would you expect everyone to have the same standard of book care as you? You should take it on the chin unless you want her dad to chin you for wasting his time.
