School sure... but campus? Depending on the campus they can be huge, and what if you want to meet up with someone for lunch, or call a teacher's office to ask a question. There are countless times a cell phone came in handy on campus for me.
About the original article... this girl should be punished, what a waste of tax payer dollars and time, both for LEO and the poor teacher.

i remember when i was in school the cray stuff that teachers used to do,
one time the teacher tied a boy up to his seat net day his father came to school
and beat the crap out of the teacher in front of us.
another time this guy used to take some kind of wild attacks just going mental
so the teachers baracaded him behind stacks of chairs untill he calmed down,
i thought it was funny at the time to rile him back up by pinging things at him.
yeah i would hate to be a teacher with some of the things we used to do to them.

I grew up back in the day when public school teachers could get physical with the bad apples. And our class was deemed to be one of the worse to go through the system. Most trouble makers were dealt with before junior high, although a few still had to be slammed against lockers in 9th grade by a science teacher. hehe

and never got in trubble eather. my H school had lots of bad students so the teachers had to be stricked.
and my driving teacher once got a nother student to help him pick up this big table and drop it on the ground to wake ME up. I never got mad.
