Hello to my fellow Canadian smokers. I am hoping to obtain a medical marijuana exemption card. I was wondering if anyone here would be able to provide me with a name of a specialist doctor in the Mississauga or Toronto area that supports the medical use of marijuana. My family doctor cannot sign the forms as I need to see a specialist for my medical conditions. My doctor tried to refer me to one specialist, but he was not on board so to speak. I have fibromyalgia, ADHD, suffer from migraines, IBD, anxiety disorder, as well as problems with sufficient appetite. I've tried many chemical drugs in an effort to manage and control the associated pain issues. Only to have stomach issues arise like bleeding etc. Marijuana is the only option that helps with my symptoms on a regular consistent basis. Being as my doctor is in a small town west of Mississauga she is unaware of a specialist that would be willing to sign for me. So I am hoping someone here can direct me to a specialist that they are aware of that is on board with such alternative remedies. My doctor will then supply the referral for me.
thanks a lot for any advice/help that may be provided.
Peace!

I'd double check on it cause my gp signs for me, cronic pain, arthritis, bad back, etc apparently there are docs who sign for few $$ in toronto . also theres a doc. david saul who is suppose to be very busy with mmj. not sure if he charges or not

Get your Doctor to write and sign a letter saying that you need cannabis.

end of story....NO court in the land will convict you.

Why are we staying with this HC bullshit?it is not up to them , it is between you and your doctor.

I've been doing this for 10 yrs and I cannot understand why you all bow to the powers that be.It is NOTHING to do with them.

I am in the same boat, my family DR will not entertain signing for lack of knowledge. His position is to take my legally prescribed meds to a compassion club somewhere, and plead my case. He said that should be proof enough of my diagnosis (anxiety). So I am seeking an MMJ friendly DR as well in the GTA...

bob they bust ppl every day for growing pot and I'm pretty sure a letter from your doctor does not protect you from arrest. They bust ppl who are waiting for HC renewals so expect a hassel if they find out your unlicenced!

There is a Doctor in North York, named Dr. David Saul. He will sign the paper work. I believe it costs something like $75 for the paperwork. He has a website, drdavidsaul.ca or something like that. I have an appointment with him, but it isn't until July, which sort of sucks. He is referral only, so don't contact his office, go to his website and get his contact info, and get your doctor to fax a referral to his office.

If you haven't found anyone else, he could be a fall back. Even though I have an appointment, I am still leery as it seems like it might be a money-for-signature type of deal. I mean, my Doc sent in the referral on Feb 11th, and I didn't find out about my appointment until today (Mar 10), and only because I was getting angry that they hadn't contacted me at all, and I called them, it was my 3rd call, and I had also sent 3 emails, but either received no reply or a simple 1 line "We'll get back to you." message.

I am still looking for an alternative though, someone I can contact sooner.

There is a place called the "Do No Harm" Clinic in BC which will sign the paperwork, and do an internet conference with you if you don't live in BC, but since it isn't an official clinic and the Doctor works in his free time, they can't bill the province for anything, so all said and done it costs around $400. Too expensive for me.

Your TO doc is legit and a very nice man. I named a strain after him. I respect him a great deal. We need more doc's like him willing to take on the system.

I have read through Dr. Saul's blog that he only provides support for category 1 patients, and perhaps some category 2, but only in terms of chronic pain management. He does not currently endorse category 2 claims for anxiety, depression, et al.

You only need to have seen a specialist about the condition you want to use MMJ for. After that, any general practitioner(your regular family doctor) can sign your application. They are then required to inform the specialist of your intent to use MMJ. The specialist does not have to be "on board". Atarijedi is right, the DoNoHarm Clinic could help you out if your condition qualifies, but it's $400 for each permit(one to grow, one for possession), so be ready to fork over $800 if you want to grow. The $800 is also non refundable if Health Canada denies your application, but I think that's extremely rare. I was referred by a compassion club, so I'm not sure about contacting them out of the blue though. Best of luck.
