there is a reason i havent posted in here sooner is because most growers on here know that i am biased about the onyx strain lol she is probably still my favourite strain out of all the autos and her potenial for yield is still 1 of the best there is, ive seen people pull 5 oz + dry from the onyx grown in hydro under hps and on top of that she is a wonderfull smoke if left long enough

maybe the fact she has white russian x ak47 x diesel in her make up and this is what makes her a firm fav for me

once you have seen what can be achieved with this strain you will be blown away at her size, give her the room and the right enviroment and watch her do her thang :)

ill look forward to your results

Cool Shit

Positive results from experienced growers is why I choose it, and since you guys have proven its a good strain, I wanted to make sure to get feed back so I can potentially get the best out of this plant and become a follower. Its really growing well and by the looks of it all 5 females will be bigger then the 2 HBD I ended up harvesting last AF try. Will be glad to have the bar raised a little. Don't want to jynx myself, but I don't think I have the horses to pull 5 ounces per plant. I am hoping to try them outdoors in a few months and in that case I may be engineering for number in that ballpark. I am getting ready collect pollen, and I may just stick one girl in with the boys, in order to see if I can get a bunch of seeds to use outdoors.

Drop me a line anytime.

LED back in tent

LED back in tent

So, after looking at the plants and the tent I decided to put the Onyx females under the LED so they can have a bloom spectrum as the glide into flowering. They are now showing a second big hair if not more at the apex bud. I am also getting ready to put something in with the males to collect their pollen. :good:

stunning man!! I hope my Onyxe's turn out as fine as yours.

I see your saving some pollen aswell, are you taking from all of those 4males or are you saving the best looking one?

Im doing a seedrun bro so im wondering what to look for in a potential breeding male!

I would use a single male if i were you, not as many phenos that way i feel... If you look at the picture of skullnroses onyx males, the one in the front right is the one i would use, anything that delays before hitting full flower ("vegs" longer) will usually be the largest, also it has the best structure, as more smell, looks for citrusy smells, avoid grassy or off putting smells.. RUB MALE STEMS..

BTW looking good skull! Cant wait to see those onyx flourish in the amount of soil you gave them:)

Hey guys- Im really glad some male pollen chatter is getting going here. These boys are spitting pollen right now. Not sure to "sterile" and precise I can be,, Im really really busy. The other factor is room to "operate" which I don't have.:dance013:

I think it might become put a female in the closet and let the breeding begin. For me,, I can get good good weed from friends(lemon Skunk, Super Lemon Haze, Gravity....). These auto seeds are precious though, as I cant run and get them from a dispensary or coffee shop here in N.America. I want to make sure to have a high success rate so I can test these bitches out for my real purpose,, high yield flowers for a short grow season area. :jump:

I haven't had the time to really try and catch the pollen from one male or the other, and Im afraid to kill the others since thats a much bigger resevoir of pollen (4 versus 1). I won't be upset I don't have a specific genotype or another show,, I just want Onyx offspring. To be honest, as its my first shot at breeding, I just want viable seeds.

That being said, all advice is happily received, and Im going to do my best to make the best pick for daddy. Thanks to you AutoHeads for checking in!

I'll get some pics up soon.

The church was the first real genetics I grew, ages ago now.. I liked it though!

My friend, the "pro" (really my buddy with about 4k more watts then me), demanded a 5 pack of the Church, since he has only skunk derivative strains and wants a heavy indica to stretch yields. I got him a 5pack GHS The Church,, and there were 6 seeds. I took #6, and will just give my buddy a clone of the "extra" seed. I can't wait to sample his first harvest. I won't see a harvest until end of summer at least.

That big boy is interesting. He showed sex first, and is the biggest. The others developed full male "buds" faster though. It sounds like you're right on.

He is also the best smelling,, so I will do my best to use him only,, but I can't quite bring myself to kill the others yet.

Hey Skullsnroses - noticed your comment in another LED grow thread and followed your link to this Onyx grow. Since I'm doing an Onyx 'test' grow myself... I'm going to pull up my chair here and watch yours.

I've grown Lowryder2 twice and although it did VERY well, the potency was a bit lacking. I'm in pursuit of a 'dank' and 'killer' autoflower that I can recommend to new card-holders, so I hope the ONYX lives up to what Short Stuff says.

I want to do Iranian autoflower outdoors this year. Seems like a logical next step.

Sounds like a plan. That Auto Iranian looks pretty neat. The bud has that really hairy look to it. I wonder what the smoke is like.

I grew the HBD for my first Auto run and it was decent enough. My friend who tried it really liked it. The onyx is really my outdoor pet project, and seeds are just as important as bud this grow.

Heres some photos(a few days old actually) :canabis:

The tall male had to be bent over..

Heres why...

Those clones are hurting for being in such short domed tray. Can't wait to get this seeding over with and be able to focus on some better clones with the 10" humidity dome.

The good n' tall male again up close

The other females

Two non AFs I did an experiment on. Worked great! Instead of pinching the tops, I used a razor and cut right through the middle of the top bud in order to get more shoots. I've seen people get more then four leads out of this technique... the only downside is it stressed the plants out and took them longer to get growing... now that they have they are exploding with bud tips.

Thanks for looking :bump:

Bubble Hash Batch

Bubble Hash Batch

From time to time a friend who grows chronic gives me a big bag of dried trim. I make bubble hash and give him half the yield. Great deal for me.

Here are the pics from the recent batch

The wet pollen

Dried hash the next morning...needs a few to totally dry

Plant Update

Plant Update

I took a few plant shots to add as well.

Update: The males have all been culled to make space in cloning cab. I have saved a bunch of pollen from the big guy (with a little from his neighbor Im sure). I will pollenate the mother once or twice more,, every few days until Im out of pollen. The plants have yet to get their first taste of bloom formula. Probably get some liquid bloom tomorrow. One of the girls is really looking like a midget pheno, but the other 4 including the mother look pretty consistent in structure etc etc.

The cloning chamber,, ready to pump Trainwreck, White Widow, The Church and AMS girls out for summer. I also have a La Blanca growing, but I think it may just veg and then get grown out without cloning it since I have limited capacity.

Toxicity report

Toxicity report

So I took some pics a few days ago and have been sitting on them. The Onyx are doing great. My regular plants are showing an interesting deficiency, take your guesses at it please. I think I know the problem and have applied a fix in the last 48 hrs. I will post pics post fix tomorrow. The Onyx summer breeding program is looking like a success. I can see the seeded female is showing some very interesting development, which has given me confidence I may see some good returns on 2nd generation Onyx seeds for growing OD this summer. The tallest of the onyx seems to be a 3rd phenotype amongst the females. Im thinking I may dust a lower branch to get some seeds out of her, since she is my largest. This Big Girl is taking longer for flowers to set in, so there is a trade off is speed for size. Thats mother nature for you.

Weed from a friend

Gumbi hash jar settling with hash on bottom... have smoked it since and it is half melt and very piney tasting

Sick plants... What do you think it is? Notice its low on the outside, green on the inside. Its not a nute burn...

Problemo solvo

Problemo solvo

Hello cybergardeners-

So I was correct with my suspicion regarding sick plants. It was a Ca & Mg lockout. My soil had no lime in it,, big no-no,, and after time the combination of 6-6.5 pH water was enough to create a very acidic environment. Not so low that the pH was affecting the plants, it was the loss of cation availability that led to the very visible symptoms. I got some pulverized lime at Lowes and mixed some into my existing soil mix, then repotted the affected plants. I have raised my water ph to closer to 7, and everything is looking good now. The damage is scarring over, and the low damage areas have returned to normal vigor. All new growth is showing no signs of damage. The roots had become slightly bound in the bags they were in, so bumping up the bag size probably had some positive effect as well.

The Onyx females are cooking along. The one tallest pheno got scorched a few days ago when I neglected raising the LED for too long. Luckily I caught it fast, and only the tips of one tiers of cola fan leaves was hurt. The runt is still short, and the tallest pheno is behind the others in bud development. The middle three are all looking good, with some crystal development becoming apparent. The seeded female, the Mother, is coming along really great. I can see the seeds developing really well. I should get a ton as long as all stays on track.

The pictures....
First up the non-AFs showing a good recovery from Ca lockout

Also, forgot to mention- I pollenated two side branches on biggest female pheno since she is obviously the big yielder genetically.

Seeds and Dumbass Moves

Seeds and Dumbass Moves

Well folks,

Things are cooking right along during this spring rush. Everybody trying to get some seeds to play with OD this year Auto style. I love it. I got some good news some bad news. The bad news is the dumbest assed mistake I could have made. I leant my bloom ferts to my GF so she could use some at her place. Long story short I kept using grow thinking she would bring the bloom back like she was supposed to. Well, the plants that were furthest into budding got some kinda def fast which I really think is phosphorus trouble. I hit them with bloom, but a few of the plants got some zapped fan leaves. Luckily the biggest plant is totally unaffected. The seeded Mother is also unaffected. The two worst hit were the furthest along. They should finish out okay. They're doing better a few days after a feeding. It could also be compounded by the fact that the Onyx are in the soil mix without LIME. I should top dust them with a little or mix some with water and dose them up. The vegging plants are thriving in the amended soil mix WITH LIME. I have also seeded a few side branches on the biggest Onyx since it is so much nicer then the other four females. It is looking like it will bear some seeds. The seeded Mother has tons of seeds on it. Im happy.

The seeded Mother

The big Girl

Shocked plant #1

Shocked @2 & #3

As far as I am concerned the dwarf phenos are useless, and a waste of space. It will be nice to hopefully have enough seeds to cull extreme dwarfs.
