vertical 250W plans

Hey.
i am really impressed with all the vertical setups over here.
after reading this i decided that my next round will be Vertical.
a big yield is not necessarily the issue, i am getting more then enough with my current setup. i want to try some sativa dominant strains and i think a vertical grow can help me with this.

right now i have 250W in a cooltube sucking air from a scrubber.
it will be in a secret jardin tent 1X1X2 (meters) (40X40X80 inch).

i thought about upgrading to 400W but after reading here i am not sure i need to, maybe ill just do a 250w Vertical.
thing is, i didn't see here a lot of 250W setups, is there a reason ?

i want to go with 4 plants and maybe a screen for each.
i cant decide if i need the cooltube or should i do it without (can become hot here sometimes).

what diameter you need to do with a 250W ?
will the space be good enough for 400w ?

please advise.

b/c it's hard to pull several pounds with only 250w of light. :D

I think it's a great idea for a personal grow. There's already a few guys doing it. Look around. They can advise you better than me how to build your box.

I, too, am interested in vertical 250w grows. I just ordered some equipment, so in a week or two I'll have it set up and running. It seems a lot of the vertical grows right now are larger systems, 600w+, but I do think a 250w vert has potential. I'm definitely going to be giving it a shot.

Highest yields I've seen with 250w have come from Verdant Green and he does traditional horizontal mod scrogs and averages to around 10 oz.

This is not to discredit vertical and maybe someone could pull pound with finetuned setup :)

I did a vertical 250W grow and was very happy with it. Yield was great(11 oz.) but all very strain dependant.

As you say youre not after yield I would point to the fact(?) that a vertical bulb is great for tree-style grows. You get penetration not from wattage but from bulb position. I had 4 plants and would choose that number again as it fits a 250W imo. Look at what Marlo is doing with his mod-v-scrog. One screen per plant is the way to do it. If you choose a wild sativa with massive stretch maybe 2 plants twisted around a tube would be nice but for most sativas I think your setup is perfect.

My setup was bare bulb and did it all in a stealth setup with pc-fans. Heat was at the upper range but with a sativa that is usually not so bad. A cool tube costs some of your light so dont use it unless you have heat problems.

Looking forward to seing what you decide.

thanks for the answers .
Laylow0, ii saw your grow, absolutely fantastic.
how did you overcome the fact that you cant see the buds ?
did you continue with vertical ?

I think ill go with 4 plants and a screen to each.

thx jungo

I am not growing atm. Have more smoke that I can handle and was not happy with growing in the appartment.

One of the problems with my setup is the poor access to the plants. Would def do it with 2 screens next time but the main problem is that I only have access from one side.

I love the vertical setup and would do it again. The key is switching the plants at the right height. My screen was a little on the small side. A distance of 18" as suggested above seems a lot. I would do 12" next time. And make sure the bulb is right in the middle. See a lot of verticals where the bulbs position is too high.

Woah...wtf? Nice job on pulling that!

ANy of you have any issues with you equipment when hanging lamps vertically?

I have heard a few people tell me that hanging my lamp vertically is some sort of hazard because it is not specifically designed for vert use.

As far as I know, the majority of bulbs/ballasts/whatever are both horizontal/vertical compatible. Maybe your specific setup isn't, but I'm guessing it would have to be pretty old/obsolete these days. Next time you're at a grocery store (or anywhere with high ceilings) and you'll notice the HIDs are all vertical. They're definitely designed to be strung vertically. I think the people telling you otherwise are just blowing smoke.
