c99 outdoor performance?

B

Butte_Creek

hello,

Was wondering how c99 did outdoors? I've heard she is kind of disappointing, but by kind of a non credible source.

Because of limited plant numbers this season I'm having an even harder time deciding on strains to run OD. For me a good candidate for OD is vigorous, monstrous in size, high yielding, resilient to mold, and potent.

If anyone with OD experience with her could please chime in. I have a rough understanding of how she performs ID but wonder if that translates into the OD.

Preferably- Capable of getting to monster status, yield, approximate finish time (late sept ?), mold resistance, bag appeal, etc ?

The c99 I have available is a clone, do not know the breeder she came from..

Thank you.

C99 is a powdery mildew magnet. Straight C99 is not generally something you'd want to look at for a monster yielder OD or for OD in general IMO.

I have the brothers grimm pineapple cut. I plan on growing her outdoors this year in your county and am pretty sure she will be done by oct 1. Thats pretty much all I know about her, I just transplanted a lights worth of clones indoor and its too soon too tell if shes a keeper or not. Ive been looking around for info on this variety also.. and havent found much ... Sorry I couldnt be of more help.

thanks for the info mountain.. But what if you treat your clones and make sure you dont have any PM hyphea in the plant? I notice alot of people say the same thing about green crack outdoor and its really just noone keeps good healthy pest free. moms.. Just my 2cents..

Honestly I have not heard peeps report PM problems with Green Crack but not to say it's not an issue. Treat C99, regardless of from what 'line' it's from, and still you'll most likely have PM issues outdoors. C99 is not something I'd consider for outdoors and even C99 crosses are suspect. In general C99 is soooooo overated IMO.

mountain-thank you, that really answered my question about considering c99. i'm really searching for a strain that can really utilize a 400gal smartpot, such as bluedream. i'm not completely dismissing c99, but i am until someone can prove you wrong, but you sound like you really know. my friend just told me he got PM indoors, and i think it's on his c99s, ha. i had no PM issues on my GC last season, and i had a lot of them. i was wondering why i rarely ever hear people running c99 OD, guys who are doing large bed style grows.

sog army-what do you think about the medi marijuana ordinance being proposed?! it's kind of ridiculous, and frustrating to say the least. oct 1, i can dig it, that's nice. i might just run green crack again, but she was so prone to bud rot/mold and caterpillars! blue dream does wonderful around here, stellar! the ONLY critique is she's a little later harvest, but i had BDs in good sun finishing Oct 14 which is fine with me. i know i'm doing blue dream, and i think i'll also run blue dragon. you guys have experience w/ bluedragon?

mrktwiz-thank you for the suggestion. i have no sources for ak. but i'll keep her in mind.

but you sound like you really know
Not really...but will say that using a 400 gallon Smart Pot to grow C99 would be a 'crying shame' (unfortunate situation)...IMO. You can easily do soooo much better than C99 in many different ways.

...and the Big Dogs are, or have not, been running C99 because why? Doesn't really matter except they are not, have not and most likely will not. Don't listen to me and just go for it :)

I grew some of Mosca's C99 F1's outdoors last year and they were great. One plant was the yielding champ of the year. No signs of PM at all. No signs of any distress at all.
A couple were ready 3rd wk of Sept, one didn't finish till mid October. (~37N)
I don't see any problems with C99 outdoors, unless of course you try to pick it too early, which it seems new C99 growers all want it to finish in 5 wks. :dunno:

I grew C99 out doors one time, it turned out OK, not nearly as good as the skunk1 which was beside it though. Skunk1 was my fav for outside.

It turned out much better indoors for me.

there is a southern outdoor thread here somewhere that posts best strains for outdoor in the humid south and one poster posted that c99 was a real surprise and did quite well. he stated the c99 buds loosened up outdoors and were not nearly as susceptible to mildew/bud rot issues as they are indoors.

The only issue I see with C99 OD is they tend to have weak stems. You may have to stake them, as the heavy buds may beak the stems in windy conditions or hard rain.

I always had to tie them up indoors, even when running multiple fans to help build strong stems.

I kept mine tied down low. Never got over 2' tall. Wind not an issue down there.

thanks everyone for the replies. really helpful. i'm going to skip c99 though, since i'm really looking for a stellar OD strain. i know that she'd probably be good outdoors, but i have the feeling she would not be suited for maximum performance in a 400gal smartpot.i've heard so much positive comments about c99 indoors and was wondering how she was outdoors..

yeah everything gets a welded wire 6" x 6" cage around the bed for branch support, and then hortinova trellis right after stretch, and some long bamboo stakes etc. these are not small plants, and we take many precautions ensuring these plants don't just fall apart. we hit 5 #s on multiple strains last season.

I think that's a good call. I'm a bit biased cause not a C99 fan, except for breeding work, but firmly believe you have much better options available to you regardless.

c99 is ok . weak branches needing support . i found her to be mold resistant as i was growing on the edge of swamp.yield average was about 8 ounces, harvest oct 15 th in new england

mountain-me too, thank you for all the help.
in your opinion what wound be a great candidate for monstrous OD genetics?

i'm doing blue dream, and maybe green crack already. kind of wanted to run headband, buddy said she gets big outdoors, but i'm searching for huge.

supermanlives-wow that is mold resistant! hah. wow not too early either, but maybe new england is slightly different harvest window. thank you
