I'm surprised I'm not reading more about these, I recently upgraded from a 400w MH doing the HPS conversion swap in flowering in a 3'X4' closet utilizing abot 3'X2' for an ebb & flo .

I started with a Lumatek 600w Ballast this ballast will fire either a MH or HPS and is switchable from 340-400-600+Super Lumen it will run on 120v or 240v wow talk about versatile .

Next was the Bulb Digilux offers a 600w HPS and a Enhanced Spectrum 600W True MH not a conversion the specs for the MH are as follows

* Only 600W Metal Halide lamp on the market; all others are conversion lamps
* Engineered to operate on 600W electronic digital ballasts; runs very well on Nextgen and Lumatec electronic ballasts
* 25% more Red/Orange spectral energy than standard metal halide bulbs
* Initial lumens: 75,000
* Warranty: 1-year

Next I looked at the colors and it appears like perfect spectral coverage, I've never been a fan of HPS lighting I don't think it produces the quality I look for .

So far the results are stunning in just 5 days It is easy to see the improvment in the yield and quality of the Buds and the heat is manageable .

I seen a video on youtube were they compare it to a 1000w HPS and it out performed the bigger bulb easy .

Anybody else using one or more of these ?

Well, I don't run 600w bulbs because I use CMH bulbs, but I say if you are happy with the results...............GO FOR IT and let us know. Generally, I think that CMH and "warm" metal halides produce a tighter node set and plant in general. They also produce buds more like outdoor when it comes to flavor, fragrance and potency. The only thing I would caution is that you are relegated to E-ballasts with a true 600w halide and E-ballasts tend to wear on some bulbs rather quickly despite their false claims to the contrary. The high frequency can cause premature electrode wear and arc tube blackening. With HPS they tend to cause leakage of the salts from the arc tube as they cause the arc to roll along the side of the arc tube and that causes pin hole leaks.... I'm betting you will get good results and truely hope that you are pleased!

Thanks for the input on digital ballast performance this is my first one, I've always been a core and coil guy building my ballasts from components and I do agree about the WARM halides I used Sunmasters Warm Deluxe exclusively until recently when I experimented with hortilux blues all in the 400w size .

When the CMH hit the market I was enthused and their acceptance surely must speak to good performance but it has never materialized into a larger bulb and from day one I have always wanted more light than a 400w in this space I always got a nice canopy but I knew some additional watts/Lumens/Par would greatly improve my yield from the lower branches. I'm currently growing out some Barney seeds Vanilla Kush and LSD the Kush went crazy when it seen this new bulb .

I use a 600w agromax digipulse that I bought at HTG. They are not listed on their website but I want to say I paid around $80. It is a 600w true metal halide that I think is pulse start but I am not sure. I have done some googling but been unable to find out anything. I can put up a picture of the box if you would like. It says 75000 lumens. I am using this with an E-ballast the Xtrasun 600W 120/240v HPS/MH E-Ballast
SKU: XTE6D
Weight: 9.0 lbs.
Package Dimensions: 15.5L x 8.0W x 3.5H
Suggested Retail: $249.95

The best possible light at a great price!

Xtrasun E-Ballasts have all the features and performance of other brands. They are equipped with a patented BAREF connector and a universal reflector adaptor, and are protected with our unsurpassed 5-year warranty. Powers both metal halide and high pressure sodium lamps, available in 600W dual 120/240v and 1000W 120v or 1000W 240v.

It is amazing the growth. Plants are very healthy darker green. I also have the HTG PL-L in the same room they work great together if you build your veg room in the H configuration. 600w sits in a cooltube on a light mover.

@ OP:

Nice to hear you like the Digilux; I bought a 1,000w HPS and 1,000w MH to test with my quantum sensor. I really like the SPD of the MH (and the HPS too), granted the MH SPD has too much green relative to blue, IMO. If the irradiance (umol/area/second) is above 1,200 while irradiating a decent canopy area, ex., meter^2 (which would be PPFD as umol/meter^2/second) I think it might be best lamp out at this time for digital ballasts.

lumens are for humans? well just call me luman!

lumens are for humans? well just call me luman!

admitted bulb addict and spectrum gazer here. some people buy nutrients additives and enhancers, i buy fresh bulbs!

about to swing a bare digi 600mh over here too, across from a 600 hps ushio. both run lumatek superlumens, more more more! the plants between these two bulbs will be murdered with spectrum.

That bulb is made for a nextgen ballast. With lumatek the best thing to use is a hortilux. Cap had to make its on bulb becuase the nextgen ballast is a piece of shit and was blowing any other bulb like what just happened to you.

Thats the info I was given at my local shop about the bulbs. Not sure if its 100% ture but I do know they are both made by cap. I have not used the bulbs but I had nothing but problems with the nextgen ballast.

Hortilux is not meant for e-ballasts but some people have used them without issues in electronic ballasts; others have had issues running Hortilux with e-ballasts. I used a Hortilux Eye HPS 600w with a NextGen e-ballast for a few grows a while back until the Nextgen died on me mid grow (after about 8 months of usage).

BTW, the hydro store person is talking BS; you can use Digilux lamps (and any lamps made for e-ballasts like Usiho, etc.) with any e-ballast. Digilux lamps were designed for e-ballasts, not a specific e-ballast.

@ Fistedsister:

Wow, that sucks. I hope my Digilux lamps (1,000w HPS and MH) don't blow up once I fire them with my Galaxy e-ballast. I have read less than stellar reports about Lumatek e-ballasts but your post is the first I have seen about Digilux lamp blowing up.

Are you able to return the lamp and get a new one?
