GOLD PROSPECTING

R

rick shaw

The show would be dull with real workers,up to date equipment, operating expenses and a foreman with a clue.
Next series they should send Yummybud and a few of the rocket scientists from this site up to The State of Jefferson to start a grow op,hilarity would ensue.lol

I love Oregon but it sure does have that thick headed breed of white boy living there. I remember living in Portland and chumps like these would come to town with their big trucks and drive in like the mans man and what not while its all a show.

I try to put myself in these guys shoes..you take the whole kin and camp out of sandy oregon where you failed and then decide to go 1000 miles north to alaska where its even more rough for a gold goose chase. I know this is a given to people reading my post but fuckin hell if you have 100+ acres in rural Alaska, why not go for the sure thing and overgrow the property..at the end of the year you know at least all the eggs aren't in the same basket...if it really came down to the kids eating or not step up damn...if we hit gold great..but it sure feels great in winter when you decided in spring to be farmer and not just a hunter.

i would rather watch people that know what they are doing. i keep yelling at the TV watching these guys fail.

look at deadliest catch. its a highly successful and interesting show the features some of the top boats in the fleet. get people that know what they are doing that are interesting. someone like sig is no joke yet he has a crazy enough personality for TV and its interesting.

this gold mining show is like watching a bunch of chickens run around with there heads cut off.

i do not feel bad for these guys at all. if your so full of yourself that you can't even listen to an experienced miner (because he is bossing us around -- boohoo!!!) you DESERVE to fail. know what you are doing and you wont have to rely on and "outsider".

is gold panning enjoyable as a sport or hobby?
can i to it in my neighborhood stream in NJ?

intrigued, as this can be a fun weekend jawn with the dog.
thanks!

in measured doses, finding the zone where your back is happy is a trick
they say gold is where you find it, who knows where it could pop up?
watch for unexpected stuff, luck goes to the sharp sighted

LoL if these clowns only went all out on a fishing boat because their dad use to "fish".
I'm sure the body count ratio would be close to 100%.

it's fun, as long as you have some knowledge of how and where to find gold...and as long as u have some reasonable expectation of it being worth your while.

i don't know if new jersey is tolerant to ppl tearing up the environment

it's super fun tho....but i wouldn't pan unless i at least ran shit thru a small sluice or more first.

(i really really still want a suction dredge tho )

also what is with the fat guy with pubes growing from his chin trying to intimidate everyone and putting his hands on people? that guy ever put his hands on me and i would break him like a dry twig.
and the next show i would be on is Alaskan state troopers... because they would be mining for his dead body

Nice, i have a 4 inch dredge sort of like the one in the pic above. Its a toss up between it and the high banker as to what really got me into mining back then. Summer Time floating around in the streams moving dirt with the Dredge having a blast.

With the High Banker its just that Standing outside where these large cracks are that you can turn your water line around and blow the land away and down into your Sluice box or Shovel fulls if they look down on Hydrolicing the earth away .. Most places do. Public areas and what not.

High Banker

I do the combo setup so whatever i felt like or whatever was available to us when we got there.
one of these days i should get back into it.. i have all the equipment still. its just sitting there collecting dust.

Figured i would add some stuff i really didnt see on the show. They had a shaker tabled but it was never setup correctly.

this would help

Plus every mining store i have been in always have the automatic panner running with gold climbing up the sprial..

Plus no blue pans

You can't go from playing park ball to trying to hit Tim Lincecum for a living and expect to succeed. Its like growing, start with 1k not 160k, gotta learning curve to climb, can't just superman that shit.
A big mining operation is millions of dollars. They did start off really small, it's just hard work no matter what level. They obviously did a lot of research and planning b/c they knew about what to do just not how to do it. It's like reading a book on how to build an engine 5x and being able to recite it backwards and then getting to the actual building of the engine and realizing just how much you got left to learn.
that dorsey guy is the biggest, whiniest, bitch i have ever seen. i understand the dude got himself into a bad situation, and he's got to look his wife and daughter in the eye... but, he can't handle pressure at all. he's constantly getting his butt hurt and flipping out... when he should just put his damn head down and work. guy snaps like a twig anytime pressure is brought his way.
don't get me wrong none of the other guys are to much better.

and they should of known to call it quits when they had that 15 year old boy showing 'em up. if that doesn't make you say to yourself "hey were in over our heads..." then your just a bunch of fools
Dorsey is typical I've never been pushed my whole life's been rosey type person. Now he's faced with something hard and he can't do it. The guy's confidence is rock bottom and his entitlement mindset will keep it there.

Age is irrelevant here. The boy has been mining with the same setup for years with his grandfather. He should know ten times more than they do. I built a 1974 beetle from frame off starting when I was 8 yo till I was 19. I knew more about restoring cars than most ppl double my age with half the years in. I even had to teach my father how to set the deck height and compression ratio so I could use my 92mm jugs. I also had to teach the local man how to stroke the engine case to fit my 82mm crank in it. I was 15 then, the men who were "helping" me were over 50 and had built several American muscle cars over the years.

the claim owner even had an experienced miner come on site and help these guys out and they don't even want to listen to him. they keep saying "well he isn't going to come in and be our boss...." and shit like that. well guess what the claim owner wants him there and that's whats going to happen, and this guy has actually mined gold so i suggest listening to him.

nothing these guys have done has worked so it seems like they would want to listen to him but i guess not. i don't know why they were yelling at him either. the guy knows his shit, you don't, so put your gdamn head down and listen is what i'd tell them.

fatso even had to hit his sister up for 25 grand and pitched an attitude with her. what a piece of shhhhiiiiittttt
I would be willing to lay 2:1 odds that if the cameras weren't rolling there would be none of this shit and they would just listen. But since cameras are rolling they all want to be the alpha dog.

I like watching people learning stuff for the first time. It's much more realistic than watching a pro come in and make it easy.

well when you are running a commercial gold mining operation and put over 250k of your own money into it you better know what you are doing and if a 15 year old can come over and show you up there is problems. i am not saying someone that young isn't capable of having a lot of knowledge about something like gold mining.
its like if you got a loan to open up your own garage to work on and build cars i would expect you to know what you are doing beforehand and i would hope you were an experienced mechanic. these guys put 250k into something they know nothing about and have NO experience doing. so its really sad when they have to call a 15 year old over to show them up. when i take my car to get a tune up at the local garage i hope the mechanic isn't calling upon his friends 15 year old grandson for advice. i would hope he knows what to do already, and if he doesn't then at least has some sort of idea. these guys have no idea at all. that's what gets me.

How much money do you have?

How much money do you have?

how much $$ ££ do you think it would cost to build a home made dredging machine?

How much money do you have? Where will you be mining. Do you have experience?

Go to this website http://www.keeneeng.com/ and look at the stuff they sell, it will give you an idea.

I am a miner and have all kinds of equipment which I use to recover gold. In the river, in the desert, in the Ocean. :dance013:

Once you decide where to mine, then you would choose the right equipment for the job. :ying:

this is like saying i want to grow how much is it going to cost me?

well there are several variables to consider before you can get an answer.

They read up on this. They knew what to take and how to get it there. They knew about the glory hole from Earl and a general idea of it's location. They just had zero experience and some personality clashes. I don't see this as a 15yo coming over. I see this as a person with say 4+ years experience coming over and advising those with 0.

Edit: Their screwups remind me a lot of myself when I first softmodded an xbox and added a 400gb hdd. Took me two weeks to figure out a task that only took an hour once I had the experience to go with everything I read.

i never once said a 15 year old isn't capable of having vast knowledge about a certain subject over people much older than him but when you have drained 250k into a mining operation your knowledge should be at least on par with his, and its a little sad that they even had to rely on him. four years of experience or not. someone in there crew should of had equal to or more experience before dipping into something like that.
also modding your xbox for a few hundred bucks and doing a few trail and eras is different than reading a couple manuals, asking an old timer for advice, and thinking you are going to successfully mine gold. especially when you have that much money on the line. that big of a loss could ruin lives and the learning curve is much bigger than learning how to install a new hard drive. this kind of knowledge takes years, and years to perfect.

they are selling 5-10acrea minig rights for 2k in the sierras, been looking into possibly buying one. you are allowed to even build a small shack for "temporary" housing but its not like they have people enforcing that!
