Cyclone Yasi

Wow this looks like it is going to be a big one!
Some guru suggested it is 3 times larger than Larry. Better stock up on flood damaged bananas.
Are there any amigos on IC living in the path of this one and what is the atmosphere like up there?
Insurance premiums are set to rise along with food prices, so who is paying for global warming now huh?

Shit its shaping up to be the biggest cyclone ever to hit Aus..Good Luck peeps

Severe Tropical Cyclone Yasi was upgraded to category five off north Queensland this morning as the weather bureau warned it was likely to be deadlier than any storm seen in Australia in living memory.

The weather bureau says Cyclone Yasi is a large and very powerful tropical cyclone and poses an "extremely serious threat" to life and property within the warning area, especially between Port Douglas and Townsville.

"This impact is likely to be more life threatening than any experienced during recent generations," the Bureau of Meteorology said this morning.

Tens of thousands of people are fleeing their homes ahead of the monster storm, which is expected to hit the coast between Cairns and Innisfail some time tonight.

There's still potential for it to become stronger ... as a strong category five we could see wind gusts in excess of 320 kilometres an hour. Which is just horrific.
We have brought forward the time of a potential coastal crossing and now it unfortunately coincides with the high tide in that coastal area," he said.

"So certainly we would expect to reasonably widespread inundation in the run-up to that coastal crossing."
Once we get into the gales and then the storm-force winds and then the hurricane winds - I think the hurricane force winds probably just two or three hours at the most, we'd be hoping, especially as the system starts to weaken quite rapidly as it crosses the coast," he said.
He says history shows storm surges from severe cyclones can be deadly.

"Most lives were lost through storm surges - not through the wind of a cyclone," he said.

Jeezus, this is a crazy one ! If you look on Google earth, it is almost as large as half of Australia (the whole complete cell with arms).

Some guru suggested it is 3 times larger than Larry.

Larry was 100mk wide, Yasi is at least 500km wide (this is for the core only). Eye of Cyclone is 100km wide, Katrina's was half of that, 25 for Larry's.

Hope all ICmagers from downunder's Eastern areas are all safe. Take care everyone !

Windows will explode, roofs will lift and homes on stumps may simply fall over and crumble when category five Cyclone Yasi crosses the coast, experts say.

Link here.

The good people of Queensland must be feeling a bit cheated by now. There is no way known they can use their Qld catch phrase of "Beautiful one day, perfect the next" ever again. It should now be named "the rebuild state" or "we need tradies" state.

Good luck to those in the path of this whopper :help:
