light setup 8kw vert

so this isnt a "what should do" thread....more of a "what did i do" thread. all images were rendered using heath robinson style auto-cad.

i run an 8kw room with 30 plants in 5 gallon smartpots.
up until last night i had em setup like this:

where the X's are lights and the solid lines are where i place my plants.
I had 5kw setup with a single "diamond" of plants, so when i went to 8kw, the "double diamond" seemed natural.

not being one to leave well enough alone....i spent last night in a frenzy, trying out another configuration that had popped into my head (after a giant spliff and some great oil).
so now they look like this:

where X are lights, and the solid line is the path where the plants are placed.

what i want to ask you good folks of the vertical forum is....did i do right? anyone else have their lights this way?

i think the forum could use a "light setup pattern" sticky.

the prints look good gangja

im sure this is not your first time with vert ?

base on my little knowledge i would run some trees in this pattern

picture.php

outter rows i would do 5 gals pot

inner rows where next to lights i would do 10 gal pot.

with this set up, i think you;ll be able to hit 15lb with 8lights first run

just a thought :):)

cheers,

also there are many many ways to hang the light and get them to work the best for you, but to find that out, you really have to trial run yourself, i did the inline vert with 4k , now i am doing 4 corners with the same room, its already a big difference than the last round, im sure there are tons of way to get the light to work best for you, what may work best for other might not work the same for you keep that in mind ;)

:):)

cheers

I got my best yield with 7-8 plants in a ring around each light, they were all around 5' tall in 5g smartpots. Got 6.8# out of 4 lights, or 1.78# per light. There were a few monsters that gave up 8-9oz per, so that helped tremendously.

thanks for the responses guys, i am stoked you gave me input.

been doing vert for a while now. at first it was 60 small pots in circles around 4kw. but when WA established #'s for a MMJ grow (15 per person) i did 5kw with 30 pots, now its 30pots and 8kw.
as my plants were getting bigger and bigger I started developing "shady sides" that were less dense. and the circles stopped working for me (although your grows are sick Lazy, i cant really argue with that!)
i started looking for a way to hit em from multiple sides. so that where the diamond layout came in...
then last night i had the vision of two floating pentagons, followed by a few hours of mania and dubstep.
then this morning i figured i should check and see if anyone out here would be like: "holy christ! not the double pentagon layout, jeeezus whats the matter with you!, everyone knows thats a terrible idea" that sort of thing. so far so good.

in 24 hours i have gone from a vision of pentagonal light to...eh, guess well see in two months...

i'll let ya know!

Well GP , your first drawing`s exactly how I ran my krusty buckets for many yrs with every plant gettin blasted by 3 lights at all times.......but.....

All vertical growers are pretty much DIYer`s and haveta experiment with different setups ya know ?...... Good luck with the new light/plant configuration and here`s hopin it takes care of those dark spots you spoke of....

Peace...DHF......

DHF,
the double diamond was working GREAT....thats why i have to change it see?
i always like to follow successful grows with changes that might screw things up. just because it aint broke dont mean I cant fix it!

I am putting some fresh bulbs in later, I will take some snaps to show what the final layout looks like with the plants arranged in "greater than, diamond, lesser than" not quite the same ring as "double diamond" is it?

You said a mouthful Marlo........Think all us DIYer`s think outside the box , or why would we be usin bare bulbs hangin vertical instead of the normal politically correct air-cooled hoods.....

Been sufferin from Gotta-know-itis for many yrs guys..Chased the gpw`s hard as possible ......Ya`ll handle it....make me proud.....

Peace...DHF....:ying:.....

so i took a few pics as i was changing bulbs, why is it so damn hard to take pics that you can make sense of when you look at em? anyone know a good Ganja photography thread?

the "V" areas turned into 3/4 circles when i started positioning plants. but by the looks of it, everything is getting at least 2 directions and 3 or 4 directions on most plants.

ill update in a few weeks when stretch is done. or when i figure out how to take a decent pic.
