i went panning for gold once last summer and my back still hurts. you can have it. i think there is a reason it is so expensive.

Most mines in california for gold are , private mines. As well as other claims, there is commercial mining but private surpasses it by far. Marquis like growing marijuana, you cant just expect to succeeed, do reading about gold and its tendencies to settle, where it settles, where its found, what type of gold youre looking for. alluvial flood gold, crevicing, or a lode, etc. There is sooo much to know, Ive been into it for years i go a few times a year, no much in comparison to my buddy roy, he goes every weekend, he smells the gold. I cant find shit compared to this guy, Hes panned four nuggets in front of me out of a random hole he led me to, Out of that same hole we dug, all i got were flakes, It takes alot of knowhow, which is why those gold fever guys dont know dick, Everyone gives our old miners absolutely no credit. supposedly a days work back in 49 was an entire coffee can full of gold.
I recommend everyone who is a californian to embrace your culture and take a roadtrip up highway 49. Check the american river and yuba. Really gorgeous. If i go up to humboldt this fall for school, i am gona check out the klamath, hear theres big gold there. peace.

i can see a lot with the bug here, most living on the west coast i would guess
out east, our opportunies are quite a bit less, but some seem to have pulled out a bit of gold
i did some panning of my own last year, no gold(not obvious gold), but plenty of the black sand
did find a bit of some low value gems, clear beryl(goshanite), worth a buck or 2 per carat
but if you have some place to go, give it a try and look for unexpected opportunities, never know what you could dredge up

I live in gator country, no damn gold here, at least I never heard of any. So that pretty much leaves me out of prospecting, unfortunately. Guess I'll stick to the green gold folks!

Wish i lived in new york, only place you can find those babies in the entire world you can find them, there are other double terminated crystals, but nothing thats identical, same a gold, its all gold, but from river to river in california its all different colours and composition, same as state to state, nation to nation.
If theres no gold, theres probably some sort of mineral or semi precious stone to rockhound for in your area.

lots of gold up in Plumas county, CA........some of the first mines were up there and theres a million acres of forest land with some of the highest concentration of water in one county
the whole damn episode im yelling if you dont have 100 dollars a day to run equipment put a pan in each persons hand to run though those buckets! halfway through they're like uhh well this isnt working and we'll have to pan it out.
that shit was fuckkkkkkking ridiculous with that dipshit driving recklessly with his child in the car to tell the sheriff that someone put his finger on his chest! damn this show is pissing me off. next, someone is going to misplace their gold vial and end up accusing someone of stealing it!
i swear james (the one w/ the bad back that uses morphine) deserves it all the way he's been working

i hope they make a california one, without idiots. I cant believe they picked who they did, theres a reason to it, nobody would wana watch a bunch of pros cleaning the dirt. Theyd rather watch a bunch of hooligans dicking around, smashing trucks and fucking shit up, entertaining but im getting annoyed, gimme the yellow stuff already, commercials have the best parts of the show in them IMO.
all that shit is drama created for the show. If there's no conflict the ratings plummet. Reality TV is all about conflict.

i am from Charlotte, north Carolina grew up there as a kid. the first gold rush in the united states was discovered here, and that's why its the 2nd largest banking city in the united states. i bet if i went home there are still some areas with gold. i bet if i hiked into the Uwharrie mountain (about an hour from charlotte, lots of gold was discovered here. also some of the oldest mountains in the entire world) range i could find something. most of the uwharrie mountain range has gone undeveloped too and its thought to be over 500 million years old. they once thought the mountain ranged peaked at over 20,000 ft. now only about 2,000 ft high due to erosion.

it is a sad state of affairs, no fortune gonna happen this year
i see a lot ripping on these dudes(justified to some extent)
but they're not the worst group of wannabe miners that ever picked up a shovel
they did their reading, they have the basics for heavy equipment
the learning curve is the killer, with the short mining season(and the limited funds)
they tried to be professionals with the right equipment
it's just too much to get right in such a short time
they would have been better off with old time sluice boxes, they aren't as efficient, but don't run into the big bucks like all the other stuff
the lower tech stuff doesn't let you process as much material, so the potential payout is less
but you won't go bust so quickly

I grow, herkimers the size of a dl can go for 3-500 a piece depending on quality, as for rarity of stones that big, i dunno. Also there are enhydro crystals with trapped potable water inside, some have runs(the bubble moves) some dont, you can also find oil and carbon enhydros, yellow or black water, theyre cool as hell. I assumed there was one herkimer mine on a pay and dig basis, then while type, i did a quick google and found about 5 different mines, the most popular mine has a homepage with a bunch of children and big groups of people in the dig area, Id avoid that mine. There maybe a reason to why its one of the most frequented,but id still avoid it, I wouldnt wana dig in a hole with a bunch of folks trying to dig around me and a bunch of little booger laden shits running around screaming, its just frustrating. I like peace and quiet and just nature speaking when i rockhound prospect. Just google herkimer mines and the first result is the place i speak of, check out a few of the herkimer diamond mine websites and youll find a nice peaceful mind(pun intended) to dig at. Having said that, i fuckin hate that theyre called diamonds, i think they are called so,because the dude that found them thought they were diamonds, but they are just quartz. Thats an another assumption like the one about being only one mine.
