Apartment Limits Electricity

Y

YoungBud

To start off I'm not new to growing I currently have 2kw Hydro setup, With a few Years of Very successful grows. Top feed to waste, rockwool cubes to Slabs.. But I have out grown this setup and I'm Ready to move Up..
Ive been thinking About Getting myself a 2 bedroom apartment and Blow out one room and Live in the other.. I would like to Set up a 4 Lighter in a 10x10 room with two tables rockwool hydro..
I Would love some info From people who have done this or similar..
Also if anyone has any GOOD info on how much an apartment can handle electricity wise..

Thanks for Any info..

Just make sure the apartment has washer and dryer hook ups, then you will have at least a 30 amp 230v supply line. That can safely handle 4 lights, with 500w to spare.

You will need to make a 10 awg extension cord to run into the grow room that connects to your timer.

If you have a dryer to use, you will need to make a 3 way cord, just make sure to never, NEVER, run the dryer and the lights at the same time. You might even want to get a manual A/B switch that will only allow one or the other to run, but then it will mess up your timer for the lights when the dryer is running. The 3 way cord consists of a male plug that goes into the wall plug, a female plug that goes to the dryer and the 3rd cord to the lights. Make sure you put the splice in a junction box, prefferably one that you can clamp the incoming wires in place.

This is not the safest way by any means, because you can technically use the dryer at the same time the lights are on and either flip the breaker or burn down the complex.

You'd use the stove plug! Thats how we do! Im actually in the same phase as you. Im planning on running 2 1k in a room with only 1k on at a time. Goodluck to you

Aren't most ranges 50 amp? I think it might even be code and older ones are 40 amp, I'm curious on that if anyone knows.

If no washer/dryer hook ups, you could do the same thing with the stove, but you will need thicker wire, 6 awg which is very expensive for making extension cords that run accross the apartment and probably not wise in the event of unexpected company.

The other option would be to, if there is room on the panel, add a 230v 20 amp breaker and run your 12 awg wire from there into the grow room. 12 awg would be plenty safe for 2 lights. This could be quite troubling if you don't live on the top level where you have access to the attic. One exception would be if the breaker box is in the grow room or the breaker box shares a wall with the grow room.

most 2br apartments have 100amp service, so you can easily run 4kw+

call an electrician that you trust... he will hook you up

yah apartment growing is kinda sketchy

a duplex or four-plex works much better as long as the neighbors are nice

I Lived in a fourplex for years, 100 year old Ancient wiring, screw in fuses, lol.
I had heavy duty extension cords running from 3 different spots into the room to power everything.

Just saying 2 bdrm apartment isn't enough. In the listings look for AEK,W/D. An all electric kitchen and a washer and drier hookup means that the place will be able to handle the electric load. More importantly the previous tenants have probably used larger amounts of power. Forget about power bill paranoia, you said your not a rookie. Your bill is based on how much the previous tenants used. When you go 400% of the prior tenants base use amount your PG&E bill will be higher then it needs to be.

Being Paranoid About a Power Bill? what are you talking about i never said anything about a "bill"..
And The Electricity bill is Based Off What your kwh is in your Area..

So youngbud your OP shows you have no knowledge of electricity. "And The Electricity Bill Is Based Off What your kwh is in your Area"(strange use of CAPS) shows you do not have a complete understanding of the base rate used for determining electric rates. I was try to bring something into the discussion. Sorry if I bruised your delicate ego. "Thanks for any info" in your OP meant what?

I own my place. Have 3 med cards and don't give a flying fuck what my strata says.

The RCMP knows and checks my grow. I have a 2 bed, 2 bath and have built a room in a room in one bedroom. In March, i'll be moving my bed in to my living room and building another room in the 2nd bedroom with Undercurrents.

I'll have 6 x 600's in each room on a flip. Both rooms will be 10 x 10.
