i am here to say that defoliation is a great technique for anybody with an extremely dense canopy

and awesome for cramped vertical grows..

I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in. When I first started growing outside my wife was nervous so I told her I would only grow 2 plants. Well, I topped and topped and pretty soon those 2 plants were about 8 feet in diameter. One day my wife came out to hang a blanket on the laundry line and actually paid attention to the plants and FREAKED OUT!! I am not kidding, she thought I was growing a forest!!! OMG it was funny! anyway, I didn't have 2 litre colas on each one but it was still a lot more than if i would have left it to one cola and a couple branches.

so no one answered my question yet.So here is the deal ;i got 55 plants going in a 10 by10,but they are thick with leaves and at 5 weeeks from seed you can imagine what my room looks like. Now i know about pruning trimming big leafing ect ect. What i really would like to have answered is my above question.if you trim the leaf as you would a cloantrimming it ti half of its size will it be benificial over just taking the whole leaf?anyone?

your answer is.... maybe.

the goal of defoliation is more light penetration

it's your call whether you get enough penetration by just pruning half the leaf.

so what do you think?i know from exp that de-leafing helps if done properly and in some cases like vert and sog its plumb neccessary will keeping the leaf half trimmed be benificial or will it be a hinderence. So has anyone tried this yet that can give me a difinitive answer.More than likely i am going to de leaf this way so any prior test conclusions ect would be helpful

i would just pull the whole leaf

the leaf halves will still grow and eventually block light

no real drawbacks to pulling the whole leaf if know what you're doing

We are puting together a stadium grow, I will do some defol in veg but fuck that bullshit in flower. Too many issues last time I played with defoliation in flower. I think once you get the big monkey leaves off BEFORE flower you should be pretty good as far as penetration goes.

Most new growth should be smaller fans anyways after the big ol ones have been plucked off. I want to make sure and have enough penetration even though we will have either 2 or 3 1k's on a mover with a room only 6.5 wide x 12 long (stadium grow).

Defol is great in veg, along with toppin fim'in and a million other methods to train your girls to end up how you want em.

Maybe try it on one or two plants and see how it goes. :tiphat:

Can anyone recap the defoliation techniques used in veg?? This hydro stuff reallly hauls ass and i'm thinking I can benefit from trimming up some of those huge fan leaves.

Typically I leave EVERYTHING until after stretch..but now im re-considering...

Sorry, 177 pages I would just like a quick summary or pro/cons to certain defoliation techniques in veg.

Thanks!

Come on defoliators get your act together. Its nearly been a year! 177 pages, 2654 post, 199 pictures and still no proof! WTF are you lot doing?

I see one poor attempt here; Side by side comparison but its flawed and pretty much a pathetic effort.

Another attempt was made in the side by side forum but it was soooo bad the whole thread got deleted.

I really cant believe this rubbish thread is still a sticky lol

alot of kushes if your growing shrubs or trees i have delafed week 2 of bloom.......and with the same strains left them alone,,,,,The ones not leafed had alot more leaf each time and less bud,

problem is when you do it to late and to extrem you can cause trauma to the plant,,,,,,,and then they stale out, happens to alot of friends who do it major in one day about week 4 of bloom in sog, i grow 4-5fters,

if you do it all one day and You can see the sap or water, i call it plant blood the drips where you stole a sun leaf, think if i ripped all yur leggs and arms off at the same time , it will cuase a stall and shock,,,,,,, best way is to do it week 2 when there hairs are just coming out and then, here and there threw the grow take off a few you see blocking shit after or you will have the plants shock and stale bud growth,

Its a slippery slope , but done right, it will yeild more from the lowers and less fluff

stuff like bubba and the dawgs and the uk cheese each in veg grow a worthless sunleaf under each branch that needs to be stripped off before flowering or you get a ton of leaf,

The same can be said for ECSD and Sour Thai.
Yup plus its a much faster way to make you plants branch or multi top with out the stale the topping and fimming cuase, stripping down the worthless veg leafs will give you a faster multi head plant with out a stall in early life, and once right before putting into bloom:comfort: plus i think the shock right before flip keeps the plant from stretching as much week 1

yeah all the diesel too
