...i've always been curious why a hamburger does not contain ham
word up smokefrogg....damn never thought about that one....thats what trips me out....no need for the word ham in there...how bout beefburger or something that makes true :dunno:...makes more sense....people put ham on bread and they call that sh*t a
"ham sandwich"...
i think it was probably called a "hand burger" (cos its made with the hands) and through time it lost its spell and became a "hamburger", that makes more sense mo.....
i dunno if you remember or ever played the game in kindergarten where the teacher would whisper a word in a kids ear and then that kid would whisper it to the next person and so forth and the last kid was to say the word he was told out loud....and every time it was always something way different than what the teacher started with and was always different than what i had heard and passed....anyhow it seems this has happened in our language also...mo

oh yeah

yuck^.....so why still call it a hamburger:dunno:...you know you would think if they take the ham out of it then they would take the "ham" out of the word.....

Yeah.. guess it has to do with marketing and the ability of the masses to relate to new things ;) On the Christiania cannabis market in Copenhagen for example, dealers will consistently call all good weed for skunk because of the popularity of skunk back in the day. Its just easier.

Handburger by the way, good word. But what is the origins of the word burger tho?

The term hamburger originally derives from Hamburg,[2] Germany's second largest city, from where many emigrated to America. In high German, "Burg" means fortified settlement or fortified refuge; and is a widespread component of placenames.

I guess it has to do with the placement of the ham between two slices of bread, so the ham is fortified? :p
