My Mom

Just got word from one of my sisters - my Mom has just come out of surgery for a mastectomy. She lost her right breast over 30 yrs ago, and doctors removed the other one, and a bunch of lymph nodes, today.

She kept the info from most of her kids, I have 3 sisters and 2 brothers, we thought she was having a checkup today. 2 of my sisters are nurses, they knew, and the one was in surgery with her (she is an oncology nurse - handy).

Mom is awake, and will be in for next day or two.

I'm not religious - she is a Catholic, so anyone that would like to say a prayer, I would appreciate it.

My Mom is my birth mother - I was given up for adoption at birth (she was a teenager), and I found her (and the siblings, and my step Dad, Angelo) 20 yrs ago last Thanksgiving.

My sister says she is doing OK, sad and in pain, but her vitals are good, and the docs are optimistic.

wow! found her after 20 years!?

prayers.....

Nope - found her after 30 yrs. We met 20 years ago.

It's one of those "Oprah" stories - she was preg teen, gave me up, met and married my stepdad the next yr. They have 5 kids, + me.

I went to same highschool that she did - unknown to me. I also knew my half brother in highschool, but we didn't know we were related (we also did NOT get along).

I knew my birth name, and one day my adopted Mom gave me an obit of a man from next town over that had the same name (he was maternal grandfather).

Made a phone call to his widow, she called family members, and arranged a meeting.

I went from oldest of 3, to oldest of 8 in one shot.

I now have 2 Moms, my wife has 2 motherinlaws, my kids have 3 grandmas.

20 years - been wonderful.

One of those "no way that is real" stories - but its all true...

I wish your mom a speedy recovery. That's a really great story of your life. I'm adopted, and was lucky to have been raised by wonderful parents. But of course I'm still curious. Peace.
