Male clones transformed to Female to judge male smoking quality

If you refer to my Skunk #1 as it originally was in the 70's and my sweeter skunk #1, both were below .1% CBD but they do have some different terpenoids that change the tastes, smells, and subjective effects and type of high, as well as strength.

-SamS

i recently grew a skunk seed from 79/80...
the effect is not heavy or narcotic but lasts long time , i thought the interaction between the the THC and the CBD's has something to do with the duration and the effect?

I noticed the other thread about hydro vs organic
i did the same skunk outdoor in soil , and 1 indoor rockwool
and results were quite different , im sure enough to fool the average grower into thinking they were completely different strains

i had a kush tested and these were GC results
Sample weight .503
THC by dry weight 16.57
CNB by dry weight .19
CBN by dry weight .54
Moisture content 5.8%
i guess this is average result for most strains now days ? ..!

im curious to know how your skunk number may differ

And doest the "Quality" of the THC matter more than the % amounts?
ive tried hashplants the were coated in Trichs with no effect and also tried mexican and Thai dirt cakes that got ya knocked off your rocker with not a Trich seen any where... Am i koo koo or am i on right track?

im not focusing on "jo public",,,my issue is a niche

presevation is totaly different to medication,,,,,you are the master imo at presevation!!!,,,but I am the master at how i medicate myself "with all due respect"

i am also an inderidual:),,,,,an my main focus is also on treeting myself 1st too:):),,,,

i am 100% with you on the presevation side!!,,,,,"we need big freezers full of landrace",,,,we need old / new / novel genotypes...i love every indervidual old or new,,,im just happy its here!!

but i have this issue,, i have not seen my mum in 3 years because everytime i see her im tripping because i justed smoked a joint,,,,my eyes are red,,,im drowsy,,,latargic,,,,its not cool for me to medicate allday in my familys company,,,,so i dont see my family mutch!!,,,,,but still i smoke, an smoke an smoke,,,,,,,i DONT like geting "high",,,,,,,,the main function of canna in my life it to bring all sorts of balance,,,,,,,,,,,only because it brings balance do i smoke it,,,

im just being open to to better medication,,,,i was never happy with the weed i bought on the street

:)

Sounds like you have your plate full , cannabis is not always the best medicine for everyday use for some. I see where your comming from , But from my point of view it seems very sad that the reason your on this planet is directly related to your parents ... And to isolate them over a weed that will always be here where your parents will not seems hard to comprehend ....
In no way am i trying to school you ,or be little you ...
But maybe there is a way for you to find a way to sacrifice a few hours of a "day" for your parents , Eventually the right time will come to come out of the weed closet...

my mum is filled with stigma,,,,,,,she uses the fact that im obviously medicated to lay down emotional guilt,,,,honestly ,,i see her as mutch as i can, :)

for years i smoked a clone of NYCD that didnt give me all the major side effects accoceated with cannabis,,,,unfortunatly i lost that clone in 2006,,,,,once i started smokin cheese every day my mum started to notice side effects

what is the problem with searching for improved medication?

from time to time i do quit,,,but i do feel slightly "weird" for weeks,,,,untill i relaps because im feeling shitty and i want something to help me sit on my ass an not worrie,,

Here it is. Sorry that I had to split into four separate files (Icmag has a max upload limit of 1MB for attachments).

absolutely brilliant info in those files
i couldent ask for a better or faster way of a first selection for "TFs"

elmanito, didn't catch all of the thread so not sure if these were already mentioned.

Ethrel is a common product used in commercial greenhouses containing ethephon. Judging by your pics you are in greenhouse land so likely available nearby. VHO is a product that Advanced Nutrients sells also based on Ethephon. I have used Ethrel quite a bit but not on cannabis, judging by this I would think you would need to spray weekly to keep a plant reversed and be very careful of rate. Ethephon causes complete bloom drop on many flower species, it is often used to keep bloom off of mother stock used for cuttings.

I have been following your search for botrytis resistant cultivars. Been on the same journey for years across the pond! Good luck!

what would happen if you dusted the males calaxes with polen from your reverced female....??????????????

i emagine ......if you seed it with another male... you get male seeds????

Stonpony did that back in the cannabisworld days

amd im sure exe was experimenting with something similar, or where they colaborating? long time ago and i have smoked many a joint since....

im sorry i havent read the whole thread yet, so dunno if anyone brought it up

finaly read the whole thing, lots of good info

Sam, you said that you didnt have any reasons to grow the selfed seeds from the male, i see it as a great tool for breeding, take the G13Haze male that everyone seem to breed with these days, if i remember correct it was soma who grew out some old seeds he had gotten from neville, only 1 germed and it was a male, a good one it seems, but i bet there was better males to be found in that cross, so if selfed and enough of the seeds where grown you might find a better one, or find some nice females and breed a stable M/F strain out of it.

another thing i have been thinking about, we say that male cannabis is XY and female XX, what are plants that have both sexes on the same plant? begonia have seperat male and female flowers in the same plant, while lilium and tulips have both male and female parts in the same flower, what sex chomosomes do they have?

Frankly, I don't think anyone knows the answer. Some cannabis is monoecious (hemp) some is diecious. Some of the drug cultivars are hermies some just have other intersex traits like throwing a really late nanner. There's a plethora of possible genetic explanations for this. But really, the answer for drug cannabis is to not breed with plants that show any signs of intersex traits. Whether it's caused by extra Y chromosomes or gene(s) on the autosomes would take some real deal research. The kind that is over drug cannabis breeder's heads and the type that doesn't get funded when there's a competent scientist wanting to look at the issue. Prohibitions sucks, the end.

AgronomyDomine:

im pretty sure that Clarke had found that hemp do have X and Y sex chromosomes

but im realy more curious about what kind of "sex chromosomes" plants that have both sexes in the same flower have, most plants dont have male and female plants like hemp or aspargus, but i cant find anything about it on the net

Sam and others, I believe these papers will be of interest of you;
https://www.icmag.com/ic/attachment.php?attachmentid=93673&d=1292573410

https://www.icmag.com/ic/attachment.php?attachmentid=93653&d=1292571655

These studies dictate mechanisms to force flowering on either staminate or pistillate plants and procure the alternate organ via alteration of photoperiod and temperature.
Results show that about 90% of either pistillate or staminate plants can be forced to intersex.

This could help you and others in creating feminized seed lines using all organic methodology that requires no additional costs or hazards to implement, as no additional chemicals (ethylene, colloidal silver, etc.) are required to force flowering.

Of course this could already be done, but forced intersex mothers could lead to the creation of all feminized f1 lines, which in turn could lead to the creation of all feminized f2’s, and so on and so forth.

Your studies wouldn't probably be published these days. They're fairly archaic. They're from the 20's and 30's. Look to the molecular marker studies of today if you want to understand the sex determination system in cannabis. And remember drug cultivars aren't exactly hemp. Most of hemp lines are monoecious.

You're idea of using intersexed individuals to create gynoecious releases hasn't worked out. It is breeding TOWARDS intersex not females only...

I was real excited about this back in 07, but gave up on it. Easy to induce reversal, but the goal was to reduce amount of work/space by not having to grow out seed batches from numerous males to see which was best. Nowadays I don't think there is any way to find the best males other than testing their progeny. I don't even smoke them anymore, just random and test. I will be interested to see if anyone here gets better results with selected reversed males than with just randomly selected males. (if any of you actually do an experiment comparing progeny from say 10 selected reversed against 10 random)

As a side note, I have found that the viticulturists are a gold mine for ideas. Check out this interesting article about etephon and grape maturation. I think RM used this alot back in 03 and 04 to knock weeks off/reduce stretch of take-forever sativas with good success. I think he gave up on it though, so maybe it wasn't worth it. He had told me the male reversal thing wasn't worth it in 06, kinda wish I had taken the advice, but I wanted to find out for myself. Maybe you guys will have better luck.

PS- Interesting info on sex expression in grapes, with interesting hormone mentioned.
