A Grow to Pass the Time

The FFOF I had been use to seeing in the past was much richer with much less filler junk in it IMO. It was black with richness and you could easily clump it together like a snow ball. It didn't have an excess of peat and it definitely didn't have all this bark and sticks I'm seeing in it now. It is also much lighter in weight and looks much more brown, very similar to what LW looks like. I don't mean to cause you panic, but you might consider amending with some lime on your next transplanting so the mix isn't so hot. You might save yourself from some obvious pH caused deficiencies down the road. It couldn't hurt to also invest in a good pH pen if your financially able to. I picked up a nice Oakton Ecotestr for 65$ or so which is pointing out a lot of pH variances in my current Bogglegum grow.

Maybe it's a shift of power. FFOF was always one of the top recommended soils but I guess time will tell. I'm thinking of using Canna Coco products. My local hydro shop is giving away a bag of soil and their nute line to anyone that wants to do a Fox Farm vs. Canna comparison grow.

So far I like the FFOF, it's done me well (I'm still chalking the N def. to not checking my pH after I added fertilizer to my water). Thanks a lot for the info!

I do need to pick up a pH pen, but I'll probably wait until my seeds come in (if they ever do haha). This is just an experimental grow. We'll see.

What do you think... am I stretching a bit?

Are these preflowers or just the beginning of new growth?

Some decent undergrowth I think. At least for my setup. I don't have as much light penetration as I'd really like.

Already this thing is smelling skunky! I'm starting to worry about odor control. I mean you can only smell it if you're sticking your nose in the new growth or the fan catches it while I'm taking it out but I just have to keep it stealthy.

Rubbing my fingers on one of the stems, then smelling my fingers it's much more of a weedy skunk than just skunk. I'm thinking of picking up an Ona block. I'm not sure what the best way to use it is. Should I just pop a few holes in the lid and then put it close to the outside of my cabinet so that any smell escaping gets neutralized? I know I shouldn't put it directly in the cabinet so that my plant doesn't take on the taste or smell of fresh linens.

There is no budget for a fan filter combo just yet. I want to pick up one of the inline duct booster fans from HTGsupply but everyone tells me they're not strong enough to push air through a carbon filter. Does anyone know if I could get away with a 4" inline fan pulling through one of the DIY carbon filters??

Beautiful growth. She's coming along nicely.

Here are two, possibly trouble, spots. Any idea what the deal is?

This one could possibly be semi-burnt from the light... My girl said it was touching the light when she checked on it yesterday.

For some reason I only see partial pics... but looks to be getting better...

good luck!

also...why are you concerned about the fly overs? do you have lights on at night?

And from my experience, it takes usually 4weeks to show sex when started in 12/12.. I usually get preflowers at around week 5 using 18/6...and have bigger and healthier plants...

just food for thought :tiphat:

If you can rig it up...I'd actually put it in the cab (ona block), placed behind the back of the fan, that way your air leaving is scented, versus your intake air scented, and unscented air pushed out. OR if you have a spare computer fan around, (not sure how big of a Ona block you're referring too) but cut a couple holes in the top and put the fan on top.

A booster fan doesn't have the ass to push or pull against all that static pressure needed to go through a filter.

A 4" inline will..I've done it a couple times..:tiphat::tiphat:
