Personally, as someone who has done technical writing for a living, I would have written it differently myself if I'd been on the job.
...
"Complete control of indoor environmental conditions allow these 1000 watt lamps to grow marijuana plants at an incredible rate of speed."
I'll make sure to recommend you as the technical adviser for the upcoming "Marijuana International" in the series the next time I'm schmoozing with the CNBC bigwigs.

Go hold a luxmeter on a cloudy day. The sun is fierce.

Go lay in the Florida sun for an hour with your shirt off
Go lay in your growroom with your shirt off. One of them you wont do again.

People seem to forget that we grow indoors due to legality. We are making due. Even a simple greenhouse will leave your buds untouched by the elements, leaving you with a quality just as good as indoors. And who cares if you only get one season per year when you have 100 acres or more. The problem is that outdoor plants can be seen and smelled. Remember indoor growing is not the end all be all, it is us making it work through prohibition. Granted we do a damn fine job, it would be a lot nicer without the electric bill.

Wrong.

And how about at 7am? How about at 7pm? 10pm? 2am? So fierce?

You and your luxmeter... are you sure the display isn't stuck on "888888" or something?

Wrong again.

You're talking about UV poisoning (or whatever the correct term is) vs. a bulb which was engineered from ground up (as well as a coating applied to the glass) to specifically block/filter UV.

Did you just stuff that second foot in your mouth? Looks like you did.

Your right, uv is different my bad. But I have seen good readings on a luxmeter through the clouds. What about the rest of my post.

I'd take that job. I don't know that I'd be the winning candidate but I'd try.

I don't have enough greenhouse experience to make a comment on much of it, except that I will say that the best example of a greenhouse product I've seen (and I've seen quite a few) grown by others can't match the average indoor result I've seen by those same group of growers. Many greenhouse buds do get passed off as indoors to the unsuspecting buyer, though, but I feel that a trained eye can tell the difference.

now that's just crazy talk. What do you mean passed of as. It doesn't matter where it came from quality bud is quality bud. Your not going to be able to tell the difference between the same strain under all the same environmental conditions except one had hps the other the sun. Outdoor bud gets beat up by wind and rain. Greenhouse doesn't.

I will tell you I have never grown weed in a greenhouse, too risky. I have done tomato's in my greenhouse and in my growroom under 1kw's Same tomato genes did WAY better in the greenhouse, or in the outdoor veggie garden. And I mean WAY better, in the same soil mix.

Maybe that's why I've been noticing the difference in highs between indoor and outdoor.

I tend to like outdoor better even though it doesn't look as pretty, even poorly grown outdoor gives me a little more zing to the head. I've been wanting to experiment with UV supplemental lighting in the grow-room, as well as incandescent only for first and last hours of the day, as well as a slowly shortening lighting period for flowering. All in an effort to mimic the outdoors. I also avoid co2 boosting during flowering just to suit my own taste... but I'm getting way of topic.

I can't really think of anything relevant about the CNBC show to add to what's already been said.

Oh other than I asked if anyone else got the feeling from the promo they ran that this might be some type of ongoing series?

Passed off as meaning, a lot of medical cannabis dispensaries will buy greenhouse buds from a vendor and label it as "indoor". I'm sure the same/similar goes on in the black market.

For some reason the different combos of spectrum of lighting or whatever and/or the different inconsistent intensity of the lighting produces different results. Not that everything else was the same but lighting, but I'll say that the greenhouse product in general will look a bit less dense and a bit leafier than the indoor counterpart, not to mention a bit less resinous.

How much experience do you have growing tomatoes and caring for its needs indoors? You're comparing apples to oranges... I mean, tomatoes to cannabis!

I agree. There's plenty of evidence to support it around the forums. But that's not the point of contention here (the different profile of cannabinoids within the resin gland, that is).

I've been wanting to experiment with UV supplemental lighting in the grow-room,
Haven't we all... I've tried to come up with a way to (cost-)effectively implement this but have never been able to come up with a solution that wouldn't add a lot of extra electrical consumption (and heat output) to the room, not to mention the additional cost and complications in equipment and controls. In the end, as a cash-cropper with wholesale clientele, I just couldn't fit it in as the benefits would either go unnoticed or not enough to justify the small price gain.

Oh other than I asked if anyone else got the feeling from the promo they ran that this might be some type of ongoing series?
I suppose it is largely dependent on the last show's ratings as well as market research for future demand coupled with movements in the industry. I have a gut feeling that there will be another in the upcoming future, but again depends on what new movements/findings there are.

I've never seen it labeled either indoor or outdoor in any dispensary anywhere... but I've only been to about 15 so I don't know if that is statistically relevant or not.

I want to go to green house growing... definately

Many dispensaries have a way of marking/categorizing their products as "indoor" and "outdoor", with the "outdoor" generally being the less expensive variety; very rarely have I seen an extra "greenhouse" categorization.

Some/many others will simply state that they deal exclusively with "indoor" (no "outdoor" available).

I still felt that the show was condescending in a very subtle way. However, there has been quite a few marijuana documentaries and other coverage on tv the last few years, and that has to be a good thing. Anyone remember the "Pot of Gold" special like 10 years ago. Still one of my favorites, the reporter even got high in Amsterdam, then had to go back to the hotel room and lay down. It showed growers as your normal suburban neighbors. Still my favorite, I think it was CBS. "Super High Me" was pretty good, and funny, but not on everyday tv.

You can't please everyone.

The aim of the show is to attract as many viewers as possible (ratings), and to please as many of the "lowest common denominator" as possible (greater chance of not switching channels, and potential future ratings aka loyalty).

Welcome to capitalism.

Huh... never seen that... we're in different areas I guess

personally, if they've done such a good job that no one can tell the difference, it's worth it (really, the high should be better, so it should be worth more really).

I'm growing indoors right now too... but in the long run I just can't see it being feasible as a long term business model. Anything you can do to indoors can be done in a climate controlled green house on a larger scale for cheaper. I'd still be supplementing with HID lighting but looking into those higher than 1000W sizes.

outdoor, indoor, greenhouse... It doesn't matter. If it's good it's good. If it ain't it ain't.

indoor and greenhouse look better, but that don't mean shit. To this day the best/strongest weed I've ever smoked was some shitty looking local outdoor.

Hard for me to say if outdoor is less dense, most all I see is way Sativa dominant, so less dense by nature. But even if it is, plant a few more plants and enjoy no electric bill. To the consumer density should not matter, your buying buy weight, potency and taste are key.

Don't get me wrong I love indoor growing, and don't grow outdoors. But if prohibition were lifted I would be unplugging the HPS, and moving all production to greenhouses, and Im sure most people would do the same.

I know, and I still watched the whole thing. It had its good parts. I didn't care for the doctor, he looked like a hack out to make a buck. The way the interviewer asked the questions, just seemed very condescending. I did like the couple making a legit business. I thought the kentucky police man was both good and bad for us. Depends how naive the viewer is.

Tell that to wholesale buyers. Who then needs to tell that to a majority of the lightweight consumers.

It won't work.

Glitter, glam, and stink is what's in right now. Lowest common denominator factor also applies here.

Welcome to capitalism. :D
