Anybody know how much light you're losing when you hang lights from a cord without any reflector? Only place Ive seen it done is in Coliseum type setups. Probably not efficient for grows on a flat surface eh?

Lamps throw a shadow forward so, you'll lose tons-O-Light as all the light is thrown perpendicular to the shaft of the lamp.

Yeah this is what I figured. Alot less of the lamp bulb is exposed to the plants compared to mounted horizontal in a hood. Logic.

Why not just do a vertical run. You get a way better yield. I won't ever go back to horizontal.

In low headroom situations when running a vertical lite w/o hoods, seems to help with hot spots ...I get better air mixing without the hoods...1000 hps vert barebulb with cellatex wall/ceiling.

cus it's for a veg room. I have 2 100w cfls and only one hydrofarm ballast/hood. I was going to avoid buying another and keep them hanging but dont feel the lighting is very efficient now...

Hang it in the middle, taller plants on the outside, smaller plants on the inside... The plants will reach up toward the light and all will be well.

I run 2 400w MH in my veg room, hung vertically... I flower vertically. Works for me.
