Hydro shop etiquette

Yeah, sometimes I will slip up...and I can tell that the guys there get tense and try and change the subject really quick. I try and be friendly, an every one knows what is going on...but I can certainly understand that they do not want that shit talked about in there.

One of the guys that works there is always high when I go in there...he has like perma cottonmouth

Not organics are crap and smell like it too.
rockwool is the only way to go..
If you want to grow a plant you need this 1000w HPS electronic ballast and $250.00 bulb or your tomatoes will look like crap.....

I have been to three hydro shops now and no shop owner ever asked me what I was growing. I would probably just walk right back out the door with nothing in my hands.

It could be because I definitely look like I'm growing weed, maybe those who get asked look like they dont?

I live in Cali, but still do not discuss growing pot at the local hydro store. I doubt they would ask me to leave, but might not like it for whatever reason.

Icmag and other forums have schooled me enough for 90% of what I do.

i never discuss much with them, i don't give out any details, i do all research before going, i pick out what i need before going. the store employees usually appreciate it when i come in knowing exactly what i want and am in and out within just a couple minutes, i never chit chat with them...

i do have to say though, funny shit, 1 time i was buying some fox farms soil, one of the employees helped me out to the car, i was at a hardware store earlier and picked up some food seeds for the garden, totally spaced out i left them on the passenger side seat. as the hydro store guy and i were walking out carrying the soil, a car of younger folks drove by and yelled, "i hope you have the best of luck with your harveeeeest!!!", i chuckled and the hydro store guy said, "haha they have no idea you actually ARE growing tomatoes!" it was at this moment i recalled the seeds, thing is, it told me that hydro store employee definitely scanned the inside of my car as he dropped the soil into the back, hmmm lol tomatoes in deed

Dont get me wrong I love the pot culture as an observer. I just find if you look like a duck act like duck then someone might go hey there is a duck lets get em. I wish it was as normal as drinking beer and watching football but society has rejected pot smokers as aberrent. Damnit I dont want to be a closet smoker. We need a pot smokers rights movement like gay rights.

Ive been in two hydro stores and neither asked if I was even growing anything... Good ones don't ask questions imo, other than perhaps can I help you find something. My local store never tries to sell me stuff, I get what I want and leave and they are happy. Its cheaper buying from them too for the most part, than ordering stuff online so thats nice too...

uh yeah, hydro stores around me have changed a lot in the last two years since medical came. first of all there are like 100 instead of 10 now. one of them i go to, all of the employees are chilling talking about their crops and actually asking advice from the customers that they know are doing it right. I've had employees pull me aside and ask my opinion on trim machines and hash presses before. one of the stores I go to had a pollinator there last time, and issues of West Coast Leaf medical marijuana newspaper on the counter.

I used to follow all of those rules the OP outlined, but now it's pointless, 98% of the customers at these stores now are growing pot, and I'd say 90% of the employees are too. it is kind of a huge paranoid weight off of my shoulders.

the ONE rule i absolutely still follow is DON'T DRIVE DIRECTLY HOME after, and make sure there are no cars following you.

as I live in the middle of nowhere, i order on the internett. but when i do go to the hydro store. cannabiss is spoke about openly, but never mentioned. just my flowers, or my crop, og something similar.
normaly i order it so that i pay the post man in cash when he delivers, but my last order at about 250 dollars, the postman came handed me the box, wished me a nice day, and left. no bill, no nothing.
so what do i do now?, what is the etiquette?, call them and sort it out, or just wait and see if they notice.

For the most part I try to avoid Hydro Stores because the cops have been known to hang out around them

Proper management will not be like that. Authorities will collapse if they will have to wait to catch marijuana growers in hydro stores. It is not effective.
They would prefer to close all the shops claiming they provide materials to the marijuana growers. And when they can not do it, they will not wait for them at the gate.
They have proven a good method - informers.
They do not even have to recruit them. The authorities know what is happening in your environment, as long as you "lower", good chances to remain "high" ..
Not by the secrecy of what you buy.
By secret of what you're smoking, especially with whom !!

As comfortable as I am with the people in the shop I go to, it's still uncomfortable going to buy thousands of dollars worth of grow gear. I love that they let me bring my shepherd in with me, plus i kind of look like a cop. The looks on peoples faces when they see me with my dog inside is priceless. Lady told me a state cop was parked outside doing paperwork on a saturday morning(unknowingly), and they didn't have a single customer for the hour he was there. She had to go tell him to leave, 10 minutes later you couldn't find a parking space. Everyone was doing loops back and forth on the highway till he was gone! haha

hm... I have patroned one particular hydro store in LA and I have to say they are cool as hell, im sure in part due to the mmj movement in cali, it has grown very lax.... some shops are still very paranoid with good reason, but the shop I give the majority of my business to has helped me immensely (pre-icmag membership of course ) there not always spot on with advice as I have grown and learned more, but for the most part they share any knowledge of there experience, you always have to take any new information with a grain of salt. And there have been several times in my inexperience where I go in all gungho to buy something and they explain to me not needing it, or a redundancy with gear or nutes I have already purchased.
