DIY Vertical Cooler System

a true pioneer, im just getting the bugs worked out of my stadium grow and goldie comes up with another brain storm. great ideas and thanks for sharing and all your hard work.

I'll be setting up a unit around second or third week of Dec. Got to get a rotation going, but you'll see a unit from me. Looking at a 1200-1800 watt HPS setup with four corners and about 96 sites. By the way, I started this thread. Keep an eye out and I'll link the thread here for all to follow.

Take care and Hope all is well with everyone. I know King got his unit rolling and was doing well with his, maybe he'll update us here.

As for the unit, it was so very awesome. With just two cooltubed 600's (3 would have been better though) it did very very well...

Ralph, thats a really great looking grow. Can you tell us what exact method you are using? I see hoses going to the top of the collumns, so I will assume you are top feeding. Did you end up filling the collumns with hydroton?

Since I've moved. I haven't gotten the chance to make changed to a new and updated system. I might get time this fall or winter, but I don't see any free time in the near future. when I do get around to updating and starting the thread again.

There will be a nice new four table unit. It will be more supportive off the verticle tubes and easy acess to rez tank. This will allow of a harvest every two weeks. That's if clones are ready for loading.

Sorry, been busy and changed back to my old name here. Give me some time and I will show you a sweet vertical unit. I also, will be doing a thread on custom made coli units. This will save lots of money and help grow to custom setup the amount of grow sites. I'll get into that later on.

Sorry, for now new updates in a long time. Was a long and hard move and I'm just now getting things all together.

Hey guys...I just stayed up all night reading this thread, and I like it alot. I really wanna go vert this grow but i also think i like ebb and flow better...anyway, is there a current thread to be followed with these vertical diy's?

Well,

I started the thread and move more then 3500 miles. Plus, most of my gear was stolen before my move, but I do have replacement cool tubes and some left over plumbing and tubing. I might have to restart this thread. Wish I could point you in a better direction.

Hey KR, nice to see you still rockin your unit. Wish, I had time to rebuild me a unit, but so much has happen. Plus, I'm looking at moving and got lots to do. Thanks for sharing your pictures and info, maybe once I get moved. I'll jump back on this project.

I do have some new idea's and will share. Plus, I've already got new cool tubes just sitting in storage. Nice to see you Sack. I hope all is well with the both of you. Have a nice holiday.

Very inspirational stuff BG. Seeing the King's results as well as all your experimenting has made this an awesome read. The wake n' bakes along with great idea's always get my mind workin'.
 
I love this thread.

Although, I'm trying to figure out KR's reservoir method. It seems as if the vertical columns are being fed by a separate reservoir.. then the excess water from the vertical columns fall into a cooler, which are not connected to the feeding reservoir?

So if each set of columns (four sets) have a cooler to each set, and then a separate feeding reservoir for each set.. we're talkin' 8 reservoirs (2 per unit) in total?

Maybe they are connected.. The pics cut off what I'm lookin for.

Can I get away with one reservoir, or is the second one necessary?

Also, I've had tough luck with hole saw bits. Any tips for drilling through this lid? At 50 bucks a cooler, I don't get many tries.

ey BG, good to see ya 'round man, hope all is well. unfortunately that's an old pic :p i haven't build another one either, as it takes a good amount of work and resources to build one, but man does it work! keeping it simple these days, but it was definitely my most proud build. hope your move goes smoothly man, keep in touch!

DrCaligari, the reservoirs are indeed connected at the bottom. The cooler actually had a threaded water drain, so i just connected a barb and connected that to the rubbermaid reservoir which had the pump and pvc up to a pvc bar "distributor" with hose bards to top feed the columns. i gave side-joined reservoirs for easier access to the water and extra water capacity. these things will DRINK! 25 girls in full bloom, each tub was drinkin nearly 5 gallons a day! anyways, you could do it completely contained in the cooler, with the pump in there and a tube coming out and distributed to feed the columns, but you would need to make a way to get at the water to check level, check with a meter, fill, etc. so, side reservoir was the easy answer for me. only increased the footprint a little, i think i used 18gallon tubs.

oh and a holesaw is really the only way, just make sure you have a fast drill and get it up to full speed before lowering onto the lid and pushing down, it should make it through hard plastic no problem. looks like you're off to a great start, keep at it! there are lots of pics in my "Old Gallery" if you need reference.
