Pests causing cal/mag def./spotty leaf

Hi There,

We have a large garden that has started to yellow a bit, we have been combating winged root aphids for the past 3 weeks and have finally started to see better results with Botaniguard and Bayer in their population decline. We are getting many spotted leafs that resemble a Cal/Mag def. (before we started treating) but we feed Cal/Mag very regularly. We use the entire Advanced Sensi line and additives with green lush growth, but this has started occurring. Virus, pests, or possibly a combination of both? Members please take a glimpse of the leafs and let us know what you think.

Jah Blessings

Thanks again:tiphat::thank you:

I have the same thing going on. I think it is due to my gnat problem, which I'm going to treat with the Mosquito Dunks. I think the gnat larvae are eating the roots and causing problems. I can tell that the problem is spreading between plants.

Damn you, gnats!

Classic Root Aphid damage, nothing else.
Your roots have been poisoned by the Root Aphids.
Not much to do to cure the damage.
Home Garden Root acel helps them recover, kinda expense.

Are you drenching you substrate with Bayer? I have done this with my mothers and have completly killed them in less than 2 wks.

Oh yeah that's root aphids have got exactly that myself, have only just realised (well was told on this site, didn't know what it was myself and still can't actually see them) and it is exactly the same showing as your leaves. Looked like calcium def and then one of the plants went into massive mag def, lost 12 of them! Went on a killing spree with bayer and they are starting to come back now. Good you are treating already, they will recover just give them a bit of time.

Thanks guys, we had a feeling that the root aphids were playing a major part in the yellowing. We are knocking their population down pretty good and will continue to do so. For those who have applied Bayer, It says not do apply before 21-45 days of harvest, are you following this? We are using the vegetable and fruit formula. (I Don't like the idea of the slow release fert included in the tree and shrub formula.) We will be drenching the soils in our veg pod tonight with Bayer as directed followed by Botaniguard 22WP on Monday. Hopefully we can knock these pesty buggers back before they hit the 12/12 rooms.

Thanks again for the info guys, I will report back with hopefully good news, but it looks like what we are doing is starting to work:)

:thank you:

when you say bayer are you refering to the asprin? if so how do you use it?

Not the asprin:)

Bayer makes an array of product including the Insect Bayer Advanced Fruit, Citrus and Vegetable Insect Control concentrate which has the active ingredient of Imidacloprid which is systemic. I've been told this product takes 7-14 days to do it's thing and can be used in conjunction with Botaniguard 22WP for best results. We also use insecticidal soaps as well.

We are using the Bayer, we will order the Merit 75WP on Monday morning if you suggest though. Looks like there is quite a bit more Imidacloprid in that. It says for Ornamental use, is this suggested to use on Veggies, Herbs, or Cannabis? If so, how many days/weeks before harvest. We do a very heavy flush to our soil at the very end to ensure a quality end product, please advise.

Thanks again for your wisdom!

I would not apply the Bayer more than once and would not use it in flower either. I have had success using 4-5ml a gallon of the Bayer and had not seen them since (and I live in an area prone to these thing). Since you are using Botaniguard as a complement to the Bayer I would use that if you HAD to use something in flower but if you take care of them now I don't think it will be needed.

I tend to use the Bayer when I am transplanting before going into flower as I have also heard of people having aphids in their store-bought soil.

On a different note, I will be testing my next run for any pesticide residuals (as well as mold and THC/CBD rates) and will let everyone know if there is any residual Imid left in my finished product.

We will be hitting the veg room today, every plant will get dosed before it hits the flowering rooms, the only thing used in the flower rooms is Botaniguard which is advertised as being able to use up to the day or harvest. We do not apply to anything over the 4 week flower mark.

I look forward to seeing your results in the testing, right on!

Yeah me too, I was very nervous using a systemic chemical on my plants, but after using every organic method I knew of at the time (I didn't know about Botaniguard at the time) which barely slowed down the infestation I had to get serious. I did a lot of reading and research before deciding on which product to use and the Bayer Fruit and Veggie has no ferts and used a very small amount of Imid which is why I chose that product as well.

My plants sure are happy now that I don't have pest problems!

Glad to hear that solved your problem, at what rate per gallon were you using?
