Here's some bud shots from this SSSDH grow, now at the end of week 9. I plan to feed two more weeks, flush for one week, then cut.

The first two pictures are of the same bud, one with lights on and one with lights off:

Here's a couple of shots of two of plants #'s 6 and 1, showing the colas that are rapidly developing new bud growth due to the House & Garden Shooting Powder:

And one more for fun:

Day 63

Day 63

Day 63

This being only my second grow, I don’t have anything to compare this experience with, but it sure looks to me that this Shooting Powder rocks!! New bud growth is showing up, interestingly, mostly in the lower buds, with only a few uppermost buds swelling up nicely. Most of the new buds are coming in on the sides of the older buds, and many are fox tails. Now with the doubling of the Shooting Powder for the next two weeks this garden is poised to burst forth into its greatest glory! The next three weeks will be exciting.

One or two nights this week humidity wanted to spike. Basically, I have been adjusting the air-flow, which I think has been too high since some upper leaves look like they are getting light and/or wind burn. Also, making sure the AC unit is running at full blast at night is necessary. It gets cool at night because of this, but never below 60 F, and the trade off for lower humidity is worth it. Also, daytime humidity starting to go into the low 30’s, so I reinstalled the humidifier and set it so that the daytime humidity is now consistently in the mid 40’s. Daytime air temp has been at a steady mid 70's through this entire grow.

Nutrients:

Up to this week I was recirculating the water, but I became concerned about the fact that the outflow stats steadily increase to the point where a flush is needed; so this week I changed to a drain to waste feeding. Hopefully, this will prevent nute burn while using the Shooting Powder by preventing chemical and salt build-up in the coco medium. But it does result in some wastage of nutrients, which means I am giving them less water in the hope of not draining too much. I was nevertheless happy to see that the outflow water showed a steady decline in the PPM, from 1614 to 1390, as the week went on.

A noticeable outcome of this was that the plants took six days to use 10 gallons of H2O, with about 4 gallons of waste.

Day 57 Stats: PPM=895, pH = 6.38, H2O temp=71.2 F
Day 60 Stats: PPM=871, pH = 6.39, H2O temp=68.6 F

On Day 63, the feeding schedule for week 10 was started a day early.
Day 63 Stats: PPM=1177, pH = 5.98, H2O temp=68.6 F

Applied Magic Green foliar spray on Day 60. I really like this stuff. It keeps the leaves looking healthy and green, and it protects the plants from bugs and mold. Will repeat in two weeks.

During the ninth week I used 100% strength of the House & Garden nutrients, including the Shooting Powder:

Mixed 5 gallons of R.O. H2O on Days 57 and 60:
Cal-Mag - 25 ml
Coco A & B - 25 ml each
After adjusting for pH:
Roots Excelurator --
Drip Clean - 2 ml
Multi-Zen --
Bud-XL - 20 ml
Top Booster –
Shooting Powder – 12 g

Mixed 5 gallons of R.O. H2O on Day 63:
Cal-Mag - 25 ml (218 ppm)
Coco A & B - 25 ml each
After adjusting for pH:
Roots Excelurator --
Drip Clean - 2 ml
Multi-Zen --
Bud-XL - 20 ml
Top Booster --
Shooting Powder – 26 g

Looking good dude! I didn't get to fully blast my girls with Shooting Powder but I love what it did with the 2 sachets I used! H&G is the best line I've used hands down and I'm sure you are loving it right now too... Congrats on the lovely trichage!

Day 70

Day 70

Day 70

Now at the end of week 10, and after a week at full strength of the H&G Shooting Powder, the plants are really busting out nice new buds, around and under, the first flowers. Trichomes are about 50% milky and 50% clear. No amber is showing up as yet. I expect to start seeing amber sometime during the next week. I plan to harvest on Day 83 or 84.

Last week I reported that humidity was spiking, but then suddenly it started dropping to the low to mid 30’s both during the night and the day. I had to put the humidifier back into the grow hut, and now run it all the time, thus keeping humidity around 45%. The leaves now look less dry and the buds are starting to turn purple. The buds are really sticky and pungent!

Nutrients:

As I said last week I am now draining to waste, but using more water in the process.
Plants took three days to drink five gallons of H2O; total H2O consumption this week was 12 gallons.

Day 63 Stats: PPM=1177, pH = 5.98, H2O temp = 68.6 F
Day 57 Stats: PPM=1255, pH = 6.00, H2O temp = 72.1 F
Day 60 Stats: PPM=1176, pH = 5.97, H2O temp = 73.0 F

During the tenth week I used 100% strength of the House & Garden nutrients, including the Shooting Powder:

Mixed 5 gallons of R.O. H2O on Days 63, 66, and 69:
Cal-Mag - 25 ml
Coco A & B - 25 ml each
After adjusting for pH:
Roots Excelurator --
Drip Clean - 2 ml
Multi-Zen --
Bud-XL - 20 ml
Top Booster --
Shooting Powder – 26 g

Things are looking good. I am running out of space for pictures, so none for Day 70. I will take lots of picts before harvesting and post at that time.

And, yes, I love House & Garden! I have been very pleased with this grow so far.

I am itching to cut and weigh these buds, and then find out total processed yield after drying and curing. If I can pull out a full pound I will be very, very satisfied. But I think I may be a couple of ounces short... it's hard to tell at the moment.

Day 77

Day 77

Day 77

Yesterday marked the end of eleven weeks into the flowering stage and these beautiful ladies are starting look ready. They were fed their last nutrients for this grow on Day 76, and will now be flushed with five gallons of straight RO water. I saw the first sign of amber on one plant yesterday. They are now maybe 1% amber, with mostly milky and a very few clear trichomes. I hope to get to between 30-50% amber by Day 83 or Day 84.

The Shooting Powder sure did a great job, generating at least 30% additional bud growth, as advertised. But the plants took a good hit in the process. Now there is slight tip burn on some leaves and some others have had much of their food sucked out of them. The leaves are turning increasingly purple and yellow and the buds are showing various colors, especially purple. All the hairs have turned color, but some look too dark to me. Maybe a bit fried by the Shooting Powder? We'll see.

Nutrients:

This week I started to reduce the volume of water fed to the plants each day because I did not want to risk burning them with the Shooting Powder. The plants took four days to drink five gallons of H2O; total H2O consumption this week was nine gallons.

Day 70 Stats: PPM=1160, pH = 6.41, H2O temp = 69.8 F
Day 72 Stats: PPM=1152, pH = 6.89, H2O temp = 67.8 F
Day 76 Stats: PPM=1117, pH = 8.32, H2O temp = 66.4 F (last day of nutrients)

Notice that the pH is higher this week. It's due to the Shooting Powder. According to H&G, you set the pH after all the base nutes are in, then add the SP. On the H&G thread on this site people say, as does H&G, not to mess with it after that. So I didn't. But, strangely, the SP did make the pH spike so high during the first two weeks it was used. I am sure my meter is accurate, so I don't have a clue why this is. Ideas, anyone?

During the eleventh week I used 100% strength of the House & Garden nutrients, including the Shooting Powder:

Mixed 5 gallons of R.O. H2O on Days 69 and 72:
Cal-Mag - 25 ml
Coco A & B - 25 ml each
After adjusting for pH:
Roots Excelurator --
Drip Clean - 2 ml
Multi-Zen --
Bud-XL - 20 ml
Top Booster --
Shooting Powder – 26 g

Thank you, Ghost.

Can you please post here some info on the history of this strain? If I remember correctly, this Mysta Cut of the SSSDH originated with Rezdog. Do you know the lineage of how it was bred by Rezdog, and evolved with Mysta's help?

Rezdog!! Are you out there? Any input on this?

Day 83

Day 83

Harvest Day!

Got up early in the morning and started cutting at 5:30. It took me about four hours to trim, weigh, and hang the entire crop. The buds are sticky and beautiful!

Flush:

For this final week (the 12th), I flushed the plants with 5 gallons of RO water each day.

Outflow stats were:

Day 78 Stats: PPM=843, pH = 7.97, H2O temp = 62.1 F
Day 80 Stats: PPM=360, pH = 8.15, H2O temp = 64.5 F
Day 82 Stats: PPM=190, pH = 8.25, H2O temp = 64.5 F (Final Flush)

Stats:

#1 – 22.5” tall; 5 colas; 370g cut; 266g fresh weight cut colas; 12g loose buds; 78g trimmings.

#2 – 23.0” tall; 5 colas; 352g cut; 252g fresh weight cut colas; 8g loose buds; 70g trimmings.

#3 – 22.0” tall; 8 colas; 333g cut; 298g fresh weight cut colas; 4g loose buds; 68g trimmings.

#4 – 35.75” tall; 5 colas; 487g cut; 307g fresh weight cut colas; 13g loose buds; 140g trimmings.

#5 – 22.0” tall; 5 colas; 217g cut; 131g fresh weight cut colas; 4g loose buds; 55g trimmings.

#6 – 20.0” tall; 6 colas; 255g cut; 163g fresh weight cut colas; 2g loose buds; 48g trimmings.

Pictures:

Plants 1-6, respectively, just minutes away from being cut.

The trimmed buds were hung to dry in the same position in the grow hut that they grew in. After a couple of days, when they are ready, the buds will get their final trim and go into the jars for curing.

Note the tags on the buds in the pictures below. The first and second digits refer to plant number and cola number, and number at the end of the tag refers to weight of the cola in grams.

Here are the trimmed buds from plants 1-6, respectively:

Jarred and Curing; Yield; Results of Trimming Experiment

Jarred and Curing; Yield; Results of Trimming Experiment

Yesterday, after five days of drying at between 65-75 degrees F, with rH around 45%-55%, the buds were trimmed from the stems and put in the jars.

It's looking like a low yield harvest, but the quality is excellent. I had hoped to pull out 16 ounces, but it is more like 10. I believe this was due to my decision to go with a shorter veg period of only 11 days, and to trim the lower branches early in the flowering cycle. My intent was to reduce stretching and prevent too much under growth so as to eliminate humidity problems and possible mold problems. Doing so did achieve that goal, but at a cost of yield.

Trimming Experiment and Yield

One experiment I did was to see how yield is affected when a grower trims lower branches and redirects energy to the upper nodes of the plants. On Post #4 of this thread I explained how I went about doing so:

"Plants 1,2, and 3 were lightly trimmed so that the first nodes above the branching above the topping points will flower. Plant 4 was lolli-popped three nodes up. On plants 5 and 6 I pruned the first two nodes and branching above the topping points. I wanted to test the theories around pruning so by using these three approaches we will get to see how bud size and weight are affected by each."

So here's the results:

#1 = 56g
#2 = 48g
#3 = 46g
#4 = 70g
#5 = 28g
#6 = 34g

The plants (#'s 5 and 6) that were trimmed down the most, produced the lowest yield. The highest yield was produced by #4, the odd plant that stretched, had thicker stems, and larger buds. Plant #'s 1, 2, and 3, did significantly better than #'s 5 and 6.

Given these results, next time I will go with a longer veg period, say, two or three weeks, trim off the first nodes above the topping points, and then let them grow out with occasional trimming to increase air flow in my small grow area.

House & Garden Nutrient Schedule

Here is a screenshot of my H&G feeding schedule for this grow. The upper schedule is the recommended weekly amounts for a 12-week flowering cycle. The lower schedule shows what the plants were actually fed each week.

Concluding Remarks:

This will likely be the final post to this thread. I may post one more time to share some of what I have learned through this grow, but that will have to wait until later on, after the curing process is finished.

Thank you to all who have followed this grow thread these last couple of months!

Good way to do pics is not fuck with the albums cuz you run outta space way too quick which I did as well. Now I just go to Manage Attachments upload the pics I want to post and put them in with the insert image button and paste the location the upload is in and boom!
