in my opinion clones are traded with the "no passing" clause in order to preserve quality and the integrity of the strain. I think it's perfectly acceptable for people to not want everyone to be growing certain strains. It allows the strain to be special. I suppose having hard to obtain strains is somewhat of a status symbol in the community, but it's also a feather in the cap so to speak of the holder. A trophy you obtained for your hard work. Why would you give your trophy away to everyone? Maybe let some friends have it for a bit, but not everyone has worked for your trophy.

in 2000, there were maybe 5-6 hot spots in the country where you could get strawberry cough. I smoked it for the first time in 2001 and it made me fall in love with herb. It was held by a small circle of growers in the area at the time and the quality was amazing. fast forward to 2006, the cut has made it's way around so much that people would sell cough that was almost unrecognizable. It would take smoking half a joint until any cough flavor or smells would come out, and that was before Kyle Kushman sold it out to DP even. Since then it's been even worse cause people will grow out seeds and sell "strawberry cough" that in no way resembles the clone. at least Kyle could have sold it to someone that would do proper breeding and not release seeds 6 months after obtaining the clone.

so thats why I feel it is okay to hoard the best. if you're good enough at what you do, the offers come to you.

The saddest part about the canna industry/'community' right now is the overwhelming lack of honor and trust thats rampant... Its full of liars and theives and folks looking for handouts. Everyone is 'entitled' apparently....

Its dispicable.

There is one thing i can give you and still keep - my word.

Amen, GS. Hoarding is to be expected. But the all dishonesty is truly shameful. It's easy enough to make a buck in this industry right now if that's what you're after - because it's a grey market the margins are enormous. There's no need to do it through lies and price gouging. Doesn't stop a lot of these scoundrels, though...

As much as we may like to get righteous and indignant about the hoarding that's gone on (and continues to), it's only logical that it would happen. We all know cannabis is a 14 billion dollar per year cash crop in California alone. If it's your primary source of income, you're going to want to exploit any comparative advantage you can to get the biggest return for your time/risk (in this case, access to rare, desirable genetics). I don't make my living growing, so it's easy for me to condemn all the selfish bastards out there holding fantastic cuts, but you have to stop and consider why it happens.

In the case that the hoarder actually bred the strain themself, I'd go so far to say they have a right to do so, should they choose to. At the very least, feeling entitled to something just because you want it is absurd. With thousands of modern polyhybrids widely available, having a tiff about a lack of access to a strain or two is juvenile at best.

IME, there are rare individuals who actually share generously (I'm sure there are a disproportionate percentage of such individuals here on IC) but for most it's all talk and no follow through. Self interest triumphs over cooperation again and again.

Bro you seriously going to blame Kyle Kushman for a strain getting tired syndrome or being breeded by amateurs? LOL We were all amateurs at one time and as far as the status symbol shit LOL Really through cannabis your looking for some sort of status lol nah that fuckin lame.. Get your head on straight and work on yourself and fuck worrying about what others think and all will be well in the world. All cuts lose their vitality and it has nothing to do with the breeders. This is why people are always looking for good growers/breeders/and new genetics. Most cannabis ppl will get immune to after month/weeks of smoking it and that also has nothing to do with the breeder and more your tolerance. peace out Headband707

you obviously read my post wrong. equate it to any other product. lets say cola. pepsi doesn't let their recipe out to their competitors because then they can't keep a wraps on quality control. it's the same with herb. if the best of the best growers have a certain hard to obtain strain, it preserves the name. you don't want your something you grow to be given a bad name by someone else.

the strawberry cough was already spread around A Lot before kyle sold it. I wasn't blaming him for spreading the clone to amateur growers at all. It had already started to degrade, but when grown by masters, it still performs and turns out awesome. Kyle just gave it to the company that would pay him the most, and they released the seeds after only 1 breeding cycle. no selecting to maintain the integrity of the strain.

Strawberry Cough was bland and boring here's a photo

7253strawberrycough7.JPG

Strawberry Diesel was better,, here's an image

7253strawberry_d.JPG

But Strawberry Cheesel ,, previously available via fritillary seed collective,, blew both the above out the water....

7253strawberry_cheesel_suburban_seeds_2.JPG

.. on vigour, stability, yield , essence and flavour. (take another look at the photos)

We sold x20 packs of Suburbans SC and only saw x1 grow report thus far,,, so either ppl are hoarding them up,, or breeders bought them all... whatever ppl are keeping them

Peace out all

P.s hoarding is for squirrels,, if you got love then you share it about... that's how the flower-power system,, contrary to any schooling,,, naturally works.

what grows around comes around ,, pretty quick!

doc, no offense, but this isn't a thread for advertising your seeds... this is about hoarding or preserving clones. I don't know what relevence your above advertisement has at all.

p.s. if you think think the strawberry cough is bland and boring, you either had a bad sample, not the KKSC clone, or i have to take your opinion with a grain of salt because you're insane.

We toked many many many strains (look me up in gallery) ,, and only carry the best ones,, that ppl hoard,, for some reason.

Pinch that grain of salt,,,

Kushman's Strawberry Cough wasnt all that,, and the proceeding crosses tasted and grew much better... that's my point.

Dont believe the hype.. as headband says there's a dank one on every other corner.

i will agree that I have had some local crosses and have seen friends on here make very nice crosses with her. but to say that it is bland it inaccurate. I know of many connections made through people because they were rocking the cough which is a very distinctive and unique smell when burned in a joint. if someone is smoking cough you know it. if it doesn't have that smell, then it just isn't cough. even subpar cough maintains a unique smell. plus it is an excellent strain for extractions. Strawberry cough bubble and oil/wax is very flavorful and potent.

it's obviously a case of to each his own. for me cough is like candy, it's my daytime smoke, and uplifting and mood enhancing high. takes me through my day on point till I get to some indicas or hash spliffs at night. I know a lot of people that like sour diesel for their day smoke. the main point in the cough is that it doesn't have a ceiling. been smoking it for 9 years and i have had times where it was all i smoked for weeks, and I can still get high from just a few hits every time.

but i digress, lets get this thread back on track... who remembers one of the most strain hoardingest crews of growers ever the DHK? lots of fire crosses have come from things they were holding. not to mention their collection to begin with

Peace n love TMB ,,, the Cough in our photo was from Dutch Passion,, not the original clone :canabis:

Was just trying to emphasis that 1) the hoarded strains aren't always the best example of the line. 2) that people hoard frt seeds. That's all... no stress.

In UK its hard to hoard strains because we share everything these days,, Cheese was hoarded for years,, and Blues,,, and a few other clone-only varieties ,, but today they are perhaps the most common clones available.

Peace
