Great link, thanks

I've stopped chewing gum because every brand contains aspertame. My gf thinks I'm looney toons for not chewing gum because of it. She still chews it all the time and just last night she was asking me if I ever get pains in my hands, I replied, "uh, no, thats not normal." A few days ago she was asking me if my hands and feet ever tingle, again I answered, no. She also often wonders why her eyes are always red and irritated, she does wear contacts, but aspertame consumption can't be helping.

The link says that aspertame breaks down into methanol and formaldehyde at temperatures above 86F. The temp inside your mouth is 97.6F.

Processed sugar is the worst thing in the world for ya,Im told, anything processed is!Honey over mollases.

Hectic!! been using stevia instead for ages! Scary thing is there is shit in almost everything we come into contact with from plastics, hormones in meat, preservatives, flavour enhancers etc.... :/

when sugar looks like the good guy we're all in trouble

You mean like fructose, the stuff readily available in fruit, directly off the tree/plant, or maybe sucrose, which comes directly from cane or beets, or maybe glucose which just about every living thing uses for energy?

Sugar is a good thing. But like everything else in this world, it is better when used in moderation.

Bees process nectar into honey.

Molasses is just what you get when you boil sugar cane syrup, and the more sugar you extract from it, there better it is for you, full of iron, calcium magnesium and potassium..

Me too. I noticed one day while I was grocery shopping that I couldn't find a *single* package of gum that didn't contain aspartame. I guess I could understand there not being a big selection of 'real sugar' gum to choose from nowadays, but jeez having none at all is just insane. I'd rather just give up gum for the rest of my life.

FWIW I'm one of those (fortunate?) few individuals that is sensitive to aspartame and experiences unpleasant side effects. I noticed very early on when it was introduced to the market and before any adverse effects were being widely reported, that it gave me headaches and made me a little mentally foggy. I decided to stay away from it because it's actually physically unpleasant for me to consume it, and I've made sure that my kids stay away from products containing aspartame as well.

White refined sugar has absolutely ZERO nutritional value, ontop of being made like this, just like a bee huh!

"White" sugar is created in a couple of ways.
Mill white sugar is the result of sulphur dioxide being introduced to the cane juice before evaporation. It effectively bleaches the mixture.
In the production of refined white sugar, which is the most common product in the Western world, the raw sugar syrup is mixed with a heavy syrup and run through a centrifuge again to take away the outer coating of the raw sugar crystals.
Phosphoric acid and calcium hydroxide are then added to the juice which then combine and absorb or trap impurities. Alternatively, carbon dioxide is used to achieve the same effect.
The resulting syrup is then filtered through a bed of activated carbon to remove molasses and then crystallized a number of times under vacuum. It is then further dried to produce white refined sugar like we buy in the store.
