well, one time a few years back when i was really sick i was laying on the sofa watching tv and i was eating those little bakers dark chocolate chips right out of the bag. i've always had a jones for chocolate. at some point i fell asleep. hours later i woke up and reached down to scratch my lower unit and felt something sticky. i pulled my hand out and discovered in horror that my hand was covered in some dark brown sticky stuff. i sniffed my hand (you know i wasn't going to lick it) and only then remembered i had gone to sleep eating chocolate. my entire crotch area was covered with it. i had to take a shower, wash blankets, deal with my wife laughing her ass off at me. i don't eat chocolate in bed anymore.

I'm so bored, I put up pictures of roots in my thread.

So how did the chocolate make it down to...never mind.

Hey, there is no shame in using video games to pass the time. :p I have the benefit that my house is actually clean, so I am in no worries for when the wife returns. :p

Hi VerdantGreen, nice to see you here and thanks for the rep.

I have not had any properly dried or cured samples yet but initially I was getting a sweet between the ears kind of long lasting high. She is my first sativa so I'm still learning.

Lately I havnt been getting quite the same effect. I'm thinking a tolerance is building up. Still really good though.

Thanks for stopping by,

Shit...

I was looking in the jars today and saw some white filament patches appearing here and there. A quick consult here says its mold and I have to get rid of it fast.

I spent most of the day going through every bud in 5 1/2 large mason jars. Any white stuff was cut off or the entire bud segregated. I ended up losing about 1/3rd. The contaminated buds are now freezing and the rest quick drying out in the open.

Anybody have experience making oil? Is it safe to use moldy bud?

shit, shit, shit, shit and fuck!

I have heard of people making ISO with moldy bud, as long is it's not that taken over. I have no experience myself. They say the ISO kills any of the mold spores... What do I know... Sorry for your losses man... Shitty news.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

@coloradomedical No, it was not too advanced...given a few more days I might have lost it all. And I must say that I was ruthless in determining whether a bud got trimmed or dumped. I have one of those illuminated shop magnifying glasses on its own mount and it let me see quite clearly.

Shit happens I guess...

That's shitty news OO. Best of luck salvaging. I've read you can use mouldy bud like that but I wouldn't myself. Sounds like you've got a good batch to see you through I wouldn't risk it personally.

Did all my extensive wick testing I mentioned a while back by the way. And the more expensive micro-fibre cloths (usually green or blue in the UK) beat everything including the Vileda super cloths etc. So you're bang on with the MF cloths you're already using. I'll try and dig the snaps out, not that you can see much mind you!

My MF cloths were cheap...got them in a "dollar store" here in the great white north. $1 for 2 cloths. Does the UK have these stores?

I moved on to a media wick for the 3rd run. Did you see my root porn pics here? They show why I switched...

nice talking with you,

Interesting link OO. Linked just to your post though so I couldn't see the replies. Did you think it was just the pot size issue then?

My grow is tiny so I doubt I'll quite get your root mass to contend with. So did you ditch the wicks meaning to use a fresh set or ditch them altogether?

I think that just the way the link button in the editor works. Is there another way? Sorry bro...kinda stoned right now...but I dont understand your pot size question.

Yes I did and went with a media wick like d9's. Check put the first couple posts in my third thread.

Its a very boring grow.:)

See ya,

Haha ha that's funny man. All I meant re pot size was do you think the wicks were no good because the pot was too small? ie: did the pot being a bit small leave less room for the roots so they over took the wicks?

Can't see what you mean in your 3rd thread, what's a media wick?

My original wicks(and pot) allowed roots to grow through them or out through the container holes. I dont know if they did that because the pot was too small or just followed gravity and the path of least resistance.

I do know that it must be a bad idea to have a substantial root mass in a stagnant rez. Enter the media filled wick.

It is simply a tube sticking out the bottom of the media filled ppk pot. You can see it clearly here. The media bit just means its filled with the same "media" you're growing in, coco in my case. The tube is sized to dip below the level of your rez but not touch the bottom. I have 2 layers of fabric window screen over the open end of the tube to contain the coco.

D9 and IF use these as well and it seems to prevent roots in the rez. My current grow uses a bigger pot as well.

nice talking to you,

Ahhh right I getcha. I think. The downpipe bit contains coco (with some gauze type stuff over the end to keep it in place). That then descends into the rez water. So is the air gap maintained by the air holes in the top media section?

I can see the advantages, I'll see what my routes do and how the wicks fair, but I could roll this out with my mini setup. Great link, cheers Oldone!
