Water cured bud: looks amazing, smokes harsh?

This is Mandala's Satori.

Water cured some. Ripped off the first chunk and put it in a brand new pipe.

Smoke is sharp tasting (not good) and harsh. Certainly potent, but tastes like uncured herb. What gives?

It also tends to go out easily, and was doing a little snap-crackle-pop action. The ash left ends up being very little and pure white.

I chopped it on the 22nd. On the 23rd I took about 60 grams put them in a jar and covered it with RO water. Every day, at nearly the same time, I dumped the water and refilled. After the 7th dump, Saturday (yesterday) evening, I pulled all the wet bud out and put it on a tray to dry it. At first I laid them on a paper towel, then flipped em over onto a new paper towel (took up tons of water). Then I left them for about 8 hours in front of a slow, warm (80* F) air stream. At that point they were good and dry (maybe a tad over dry, but not much, not crumbly).

When finished, there's a hair under 13 grams:

I did also give the plant nothing but RO water for about 17 days, with 10-15ml Sweet every other time except for the last week. These Satori never yellowed all that much, but I figure I had to have flushed them long enough. This one even got Clearex twice in the second to last week.

Here's what it looked like right after chopping & trimming:

Why would you water cure your nugs??? You do know water curing ruins the flavor of good nugs, It is only useful for harsh nasty nugs, I wouldnt dare water cure any of my nugs ever...

I wanted something done quickly. Figured water curing would be better than ... say .. oven curing, or microwave curing.

That was only a couple lower side shoots from 1 of 5 plants. Only 60 g (harvest) went in water, the other .. um .. 1200 grams are in jars curing regularly. ;-)

IT SEEMS LIKE A WASTE TO DO THAT.... ITS NOT A CURE. YOU ARE SOAKING IT IN WATER TO PULL OUT THE CHLOROPHYLL AN CONTAMINANTS, AREN'T YOU?

It should be the other way around...looks like crap but smokes smooth. I did a water cure once to try it out. Same method as you it looks like. I'm not sure what could have went wrong.

In my experience the bud had no smell, not much taste and was pretty smooth in comparison to fresh dried...Maybe youre used to smoking great month or longer jar cured buds? That might do it.

Actually, the part where you said it goes out easily and snaps...maybe its still wet inside. That sounds like symptoms of buds still moist in the middle.

However, the little ash left, and pureish white suggests it burns well, and has very little harsh compounds left over . . . the result of a good flush. .

good luck

you say you wanted it done quickly, but you could have dried your buds in 7 days aswell (the length of time you had it sitting in water). and would have tasted nice and not harsh to smoke?

I'm with BIGGS.

Your flowers would have been smokable after a seven day dry and then only gotten better as they cured.

I have some Satori that's been jarred up for about 35 days now and when I hit it I cough everytime. The taste is ok but I think it's just a harsher type of smoke really. If you read a lot of the Satori reports you don't see many people saying it's a smooth hitting weed.

Dude you ruined your nugs IMHO. Slow dry in cool dark place. Put in bag/jar and burp everyday. In 7-10 days smokable, longer the cure better to a point. Best of luck.

LOL U MAD? Seriously, drop the caps dude.

Besides, I've read plenty about it before doing it. The proclaimed results are clear and consistent.

Turns out you're right. Of course, I didn't know. Figured the freshly dried stuff would be crap until after at least a couple weeks curing. Turns out it's not crap at all. :smokey:

Stuff that's just getting dry enough for jars is smoking pretty good. And holy potent.

Also, the water cured stuff is noticeably better after sitting in a jar while dry for a day or two here.

This also seems true. Guess I don't remember that particularly from the Satori smoke reports. Now that the other plants have dried I find it's really the one pheno that smokes a bit harsh. The air dryed bud from the same plant is a bit, but not as, harsh.

They certainly seemed dry all the way through. But they've gotten a bit stickier and aren't quite as harsh now after sitting in a jar, so maybe some moisture was still equalizing throughout the bud.

I hear it. People have a bit of a hater attitude about the water cure for some reason.

So what, I chose to try it. And why not? It was one of 14 jars. More herb than I need for half a year, and it's just the tip of the iceberg.

sometimes icmag will do that too you... just because someone (or a whole lot of people) type something on the internet doesnt exactly make them correct.

grow it right, flush it right, dry it right... good buds to smoke in 5-7 days

maybe one day ill waste some buds to try water curing...

How was it a waste? It still smokes and gets one high. In my personal experience trying this once, with a HANDFUL of herbs, so no one says its too much waste, it was just as comparable to jar cured.

lol, don't ask how I destroyed the whole first crop by over adhering to the "don't overwater" mantra I read all over.

Never have tried water curing fresh wet bud. I've always used it with already dry bud that I'm pretty sure comes loaded with chemicals. Starting with a dry weight, the buds will lose 10-25%of their weight and come out very smooth, but without smell (few terpenes left) and dark looking (chlorophyll pulled out).

It's been said already, but trying to cure before drying isn't usually the best way about it.

glad the smoke is getting better.
