1000w HPS ballast help

Ok so I just acquired a 1000w HPS ballast and bulb from a friend. When pulged in it hums but the light never kicks on. Does anyone know what the voltage at the socket is suppost to be? Or if anybody knows another way of checking the ballast. I don't want to spend the money for a bulb if the ballast is fried.

Not even sure if this is the right forum.

Im having the same problem with my 250w MH, but sometimes it will fire up and work.

Could it be your ignitor? My freind says that might be my problem

If your 1000HPS wont even fire it is either the bulb or the ignitor. If it flashes then doesnt stay on its the capacitor. Check the bulb over for any cracks or broken contacts on the element in the bulb. ignitors cost about 12-14$ and capacitors run 30-40$. If it hums the actual ballast works.

Your 250mh only has a ballast and cpacitor inside it. If the bulbs flashes and goes off I'd say replace the capacitor.

Hope this helps.
