First Grow: CFL/Soil- Small Cab and Rubbermaid Set Up

Thanks man.
I feel like I work as hard as I can on this plant and maybe because of that she's working hard to not let me down. Fun times.

Lookin good fire! Some nice looking dank buds! I feel you on working so hard on your plants and them not letting you down. But I hope all is well with you and you plant.

Stayed in bed til 1:30 today. Goddd I'm hungover. Vodka is okay. Weed is great. Together they're trouble.

Duuuuude, booze and weed can be volatile, especially the hard shit. I personally am on a smoke break and feeling plenty of the booze-a rarity for me! When we cuttin' down this tree? I wanna see the finished product. ;)

I plan to cut it next saturday unless I get some overwhelming advice to cut it sooner. That'll be day 61 of 12/12.

How long does it take to dry? I was planning on just leaving it hanging for two weeks. Will that dry it out too much? There's low humidity here right now.

I'd hang it for a week to nine days and then put it in a jar to cure. Also, have you been able to get a look at the trichs to see if they are cloudy/amber? Not a total necessity for everyone, but it will give you the scoop as to whats up with her progression.

Well, I'll be out of town. That means it will probably have to hang dry 14. Know of any ways to slow that down? If not, I might be able to have someone jar it for me.

I haven't really looked at the trichs. My camera gets pretty close, but since this is new to me, I'm unable to tell whether or not their milky or just reflecting the light differently. Maybe I'm not close enough at all anyways. Here's about the magnification I can get. I dont see any amber. Most look clear or cloudy. What do you think?

Your plant is too young and in too big a container to be rootbound. I don't think that's an issue. And while now you've got some natural yellowing as the plant uses fan leaves for nitrogen, it looked earlier a bit like off-gassing. Perhaps from the rubbermaid container you had it in. Things are looking good now though. Once you chop, make sure to sterilize the hell out of everything so you don't face the same mites again. Do you have filtration over your intake? That should help some to keep pests from infiltrating in the future.

Regarding drying, maybe hang dry them for at least a day or two until right before you have to go out of town. Then trim the buds off the stems and keep them in a paper bag. Why not take them with you? Are you driving?

that's a good idea 007

id def. not sweat it at all and put them in a brown paper bag, in a dark cool place while you're gone. some old head/pro growers might be able to tell the diff. once you cure, and if you're a super hardcore connoisseur you might notice something after the cure, but I think you're good to go.

Thanks guys.
I'll be flying. So they'll stay at home.

Any reason to put them in paper bags instead of just on a rack in a dark room? I was thinking since my grow wont be in operation, I could just leave them on a rack in my cabinet and set my timer to run my fans for 15 minutes every hour and a half so it gets some air circulation.

It wasnt off gassing. That plant was only on a window sill and then in that plywood box.
Could have defintely been nute defs or bad PH. Not too worried now, its so close to finished.

Two weeks should free me from this round of mites. In a way I'm glad I encountered pests this time around on a practice run so I appreciate how terrible that could really be. No filters on my intake. I'll do that next time around. (also a good sterilization)

...I just like paper bags for some reason....I don't really know why. It seems to me like it helps them to dry out at a nice pace, you probably can't go wrong. =)

I just find that paper bags slow down the drying process. Hanging is good for quickly drying so that they don't get moldy or anything right away. Then people usually move to paper bags for a bit to slow down the drying process, and then finally they go to jars.

I live in a very dry area, so I actually only hang for one day before going to paper bags, and then into an empty tissue box (with only the little slit to provide any air exchange), and then the jar.

People usually turn their nugs every couple days in the bags, so make sure you pack them very loosely since you won't be able to do that.

Last night I was looking for a cord for a new veg chamber and I found the old usb cable for my camera that I had cut in half and thought I'd thrown away. So. Now I can upload pictures. This is nice because I hated to leave this thread hanging, but also because I'm 15 days in to 12/12 on a new batch of plants. I'll be starting another thread for those soon.
I probably got around 10-14 grams. I never weighed it. The high was decent. Not the best, but certainly satisfactory for this attempt. It was harsh and had a strong chemical taste. I plan to flush my plants much better this time and to trim them tighter to the bud. I think the small bits of leaf really hurt the flavor. The bud was pretty dense and it cured well.
