Not needed really, it will just wash off. Some people swear by them or teas but if your cuts are healthy going in the plants have enough hormones in them already.

Hmm... how long does it usually take for them to take root?
I made a similar system, temps are fairly low, healthy looking cuts, and have been in teh tub for about a week now,..but have brown bruises it looks like on the stems... any tips or clues?

Well... cuts still look good, i'm keeping my fingers crossed, outta 5cuts, i see root nubs on the bottom of 2 of them!! So i'm hoping... once i get this cloning thing down, I'll be in like flint!
Keep in mind it's not necessarily how you did it but could also be strain related.
Some root quicker than others and there are strains around that are very hard to get to root.

After a few unsuccessful tries, a 1/4 hp chiller, and a better pump I finally got my clones rooting. The roots look great, however, the plants look a tiny bit stressed.
These clones took ten days to root. I was starting to build a bit of slime in the res. and thanks to "Richyrich" I made a simple EWC tea and that all went away.
I'd like to get ready to transplant them into my vertical grow area (modeled after KingRalph and BG's setup) but I feel they look too stressed to do so. The fan leaves are a bit yellow and crispy and the leaves that are still green are splotchy, although the roots look healthy.
I still have my lights two feet above the cloner. The ph remains 6.2.
Any advice to help my girls look healthier is mucho appreciated. Thanks.

soooo... I've lowered my lights to about 6 inches above their tops, and lowered the temps down to 70-72 and added a light nutrient diet. Pipedream makes mention of this topic on an early page on this thread. Also, now that the clones are rooted, I've also changed my pump timer to spray 10mins on, and 20 mins off.. It seems I may have been giving them too much water.
Is this correct practice? Can the tailends of these roots be submerged?

I might have already replied here at some point, but either way...
This thing works great and was cheap.
350gph pump, some pvc, misters from the hydro shop and a rubbermaid.
I solved the leak issue by putting one rubbermaid into a bigger one and drilling holes in the inside one. It leaks out the top, then leaks back in the bottom.
2" neoprene collars in 1 7/8" holes, no net pots.
Pump runs 24 hours.
With temps at 60f it takes about 2 weeks, temps at 70f it takes about 1 week. I've had roots in 3 days before, not just nubs, actual roots.
I use a fish tank heater to try and maintain 70f. 75f seems faster but creates more chance of slime.
I use hydrogen peroxide to keep it sterile and slime free.
No nutrients or cloning gels.
I leave the water in it for a month or more, just top up as needed.
90% success rate, probably 100% if I wanted to wait longer as none have died, I just root more than I need and keep the first/best ones and toss the others.
I've left some in it for a month and they end up with 3ft long roots on them. I recommended transplanting once roots reach 6" or so to avoid the roots getting bunched up and rotting once put into a medium. Too much root is hard to separate.

I want to build one of these cloners the next days, and i am just searching for the wright misters to order...
I found these yet, which one would you prefer? :

for me the number 1. and 3. look the most stable, and they have the longest thread as well.
but that doesnt say anything about the quality of the misters concerning the spray-quality, so i need your experiences.

i have been using the 18g blue rubbermaid tubs, and even with some weather stripping and a few clamps, i cant seem to keep it from dripping water.
it isnt dripping alot, but it shouldnt drip any!
i have seen people use they heavy duty ones from home depot, but those are kinf od big for my situation (i currently have (2) 18g cloners, 23 clones each)
does anyone know of a different / better tub i can use? something that wont leak!

If you are using standard storage tubs in which the cover overhangs the tub itself its going to leak. It may not leak much, but it will leak. That's just the nature of the beast. You can try to resolve it with all sorts of clamps and weather stripping, but you will likely not be happy with your results. There are two solutions that will resolve all drips once and for all.
1. Use a tub in which the entire cover rests inside the the lower portion. You can do this by either buying a 'File Storage' tub designed that way, or by using a cover from a different tub that is one size smaller then the base.
2. Place your entire cloner inside a slightly larger tub and allow the water to drip as much as it cares to. With this method, you can cut a small whole in the bottom of the inner tub and the water that drips will be able to find its way back into the system.

It would use a mite more power but instead of say a single 500gph pump, two 300gph pumps could be utilized. If each pumps output was directed thru a check valve, then if one were to fail the system would remain pressurized and keep your babies alive until the failure could be noted and attended to.

This sounds like the best idea in the thread. A cooler would be more sturdy, less noisy, wouldn't leak, and would keep temps cooler. The drain plug would come in pretty handy.
Is there a reason someone would rather use a dinky rubbermaid tub instead of a rock solid cooler? Coolers come in all sizes.
