What's new

bud rot?

Hi growers, I have just to my horror discovered this on my plant, its formed over the last couple of days since i inspected it just a few days ago and it was fine(er). Now there is this, first i thought spidermites, but at closer inspection it looks alot more like budrot. So i prepped the surgery and cut away the infected buds its a sad thing to do, but i believe its right. What to do next is my current concern. The lady speaking of is a white widow, the budrot only showed at the main stem and infected (from what i can see) 6 buds in the main cola. Question is, what do you think is the next step. Its clos(ish) to harvest, Id say about 3-4 weeks, and its an option to cut the whole thing down to prevent it from spreading its horrible stuff to the two other plants in the room. Is there any preventive measure i should take to ensure that the others are not infected? Any help will be appreciated.

Below is the picture of the buds in question, you can see the white web looking stuff there. Before its cut off.

That looks like a nasty little case, must be pretty humid? or your pheno is prone to it. Doesnt look too over crowded in there. Me i'd cut it out like you have, get some 'BudRotStop' spray & test to see if that stops it progressing. Its a real bastard, botrytis. Thats why i like to use de-humidifier's in the last 4 weeks of 12/12. GhRipen works to finish a crop in a hurry( an additive), you will lose yield but it''ll help finish your bud fast, another option. Im waiting to try the 'Budrotstop' out, if it does what it supposed to it'll stop any more outbreaks, you still have to trim-up & out. I cant find one person who's tried the BRS, if you got 4 weeks left it may be worth a shot. G'Luck!

That don't look like no budrot i've ever seen...

? Maybe it is early stage budrot?

That is funky.

Be curious to see what some pros say.

fast replies, you guys are awesome :) inspection with a microscope didnt show any "live things" or anything that looked like what i first thought, spider mites. Im very reluctant to putting the lady back in with the others, just in case its something that spreads, but yes its humid in there between 50-65. Im now placing the de-humidifier in there, which i hope will lower the humidity abit. Also a tower fan that can rotate and increase airflow around the tent. I just hope spores dont fly around and infect my other plants. I will look up some spray, but will probably be too late because of shipment, but for future grows this is a good idea.

@Securityfirst, sorry I must ask what is RH?

Relative Humidity, most people leave out the Relative when they use the term Humidity. Don't quote me on this but I think Humidity is measured on a scale relative to the percentage of fully saturated, ie air can't have more than 100% because anything over that point it drops to the ground as water or something.

Sounds like you've got it under control, dropping that humidity & increasing air circulation.

That is Classic, the whispy white cobweb like fungus that is the start of Botrytis, it'll start to go brown very soon as it eats its way into the bud making ZombieBud, living dead nasty shit, i usually find this inside the bud so it seems that this bud is struggling from high humidity.
Its certainly no Bug i can tell you that, Botrytis or Budrot, no question.
You have made all the right moves, Increasing airfolw & circulation & adding a de-huey, cut your problem out, treat(maybe) & with a bit of luck youve made the right moves at the right time. Gluck with it man!
btw, i think the Budrotstop product is prolly more effective when used as a preventative rather than a cure, certainly consider GHRipen. Best of luck ;)

Oh and I've seen that same type of mold before, it was on some outdoors, harvested a lb and there was a few nuggets that had that DEEP inside, but since it wasn't noticed & the drying room was anything but dry (Outdoor shack with nothing but a fan) it would encase the whole nugget within a day. So I'd look inside all those nuggets real good.

Thanks for the replies guys, very helpful indeed. I have taken a somewhat affirmative action though. After closer inspection on the buds most of the trichomes are milky and a few amber. So I cut her down (perhaps a week or two early, thankfully I use organic nutes, so I hope it doesnt set too much in the taste). I simply didnt want to take the chance. Now shes cut up in small buds which are drying nicely and are being watched more or less constantly. I hope that I have cut out all botrytis, so it doesnt reappear in the drying stage. Thank you again for fast and helpful replies, good karma all around. And good smoking to you :)

Good to know you figured it. Early stage budrot huh? Noted. I had some on outdoor but it was way past that point.

Thats always the one when budrot rears its ugly head, better luck next time bro, I cant blame you for chopping, Prolly what most would of done. its one of those things, untill youve had it you dont think to combat these things untill you have a case ot it, a De-huey or AC, problem minimised, Higher resistant strains & additives like silicon can help too. Correct environment to stage of growth, lower RH to the 50% range & its unlikely you'll see it again.
G'Luck man! ;)

This is one of those things I will take with me to the next grow, note to self kinda :) Its a learning curve all the way to perfection, and though its kinda sad to cut down a lady before shes premium, its nice to know i saved some and found out in relative good time. Very happy with the help and response from you guys. Good karma all around :)
