nice result yet again blynx!

mate i would seriously consider changing the rules to reflect today's growing scene. LED's are a serious consideration for a small grow and not allowing them in this competition will fast make it obsolete and meaningless.

also i think there would be more entrants if the rules were changed to make it a 'per square foot' challenge, perhaps increasing the maximum cab size a bit (as most micro cabs are more like 2-3 square feet) the final weights can still be 'standardized' to a square foot yield.

cheers

Thanks.

I would have to disagree with you about changing this thread.

1 sq ft area grow was the whole point of this thread. Thats why 1 sq ft was chosen, and not a larger area that would then allow extrapolation per square foot.

To change the rules/specs on a 400+ post thread doesn't make much sense imo. Especially if you are changing the footprint of the cab's themselves (don't know of too many led fixtures that fit in 1sq ft).

It would make more sense just to start a separate new thread. One with new specs/lights/etc

I have nothing against LEDs, but to be honest, i'm totally sick of the bullshit that is used to when calculating gpw and other numbers cuz of the nonsense of saying the unit draws 117w of power instead of 126w, and a hid draws 475w instead of 400 and, hey, let's use 117w and 475w to calc numbers. That's nonsense imo.

I really don't want to see that crap in this thread.

sure blynx - i can see that changing this thread would be confusing - but there hasnt been many people entering other than yourself over the last year, and i cant help but think that some slightly more inclusive rules might open it up to more people.

my smallest LED cab is only 1.6 square foot for example - just 0.1 square foot over the max size for the thread.

as for your comment about wattage, i have to disagree, i cant see how using the ACTUAL power usage of a light fixture for gpw calculations rather than the number the manufacturer printed on it can be 'BS'. in fact it's the only way to make the playing field level if you want figures to be accurate. whats the point of calculating grams per watt and not using the actual wattage?

eta- im mean, if you bought an ounce of weed, would you prefer it to say '28g' on the bag or would you want it to actually weigh an ounce? :D

im kinda on both sides, originally the thread from what i percived was to see what could be done in 1sqft with some wattage restrictions.

But that limits it to more or less PC grows, speakers, and the odd custom built box, nothing wrong with that, it just limits the amount of entrants.

Myself the only reason i haven't entered is one i haven't gotten any respectable yield out of my cab yet as im still getting it up and running/dialed in, and two without its mylar bubble liner it would come in at 1.6sqft, but now its 1.49sqft so i can just squeak in according to the rules.

As for led's they should definitely be included as its becoming more and more prominent in growing.

But yeah this challenge could be changed to incorporate say some bigger micro grows (up to say 3-4sqft) as it would have alot more entrants, well at least more than one, and as it stands right now in my eyes this thread is more or less a dead thread as there isnt anyone participating.

so if modifying the rules would allow more people to enter than im all for it, but i can see how its would be easier to start a new thread/challenge

I would love to see a new challenge (not that we need another challenge/club type thread) or modified rules.

As for the actual wattage used, it makes the most sense that way, heck i would love to see a (grams per kWh per 30 or 60day challenge) that included everything that consumed power in a persons grow (ie. lights, fans, powersupplies, veg chambers, air pumps, the works) as that would allow damn near anyone to enter, but would be a good comparable guide to what is possible with different methods/styles/and lighting choices for growing.

Sure some would have a bit of an advantage in some cases but its all for fun, and to see what possible.

But being the micro section it could be limited to size as well, but its something to think about

wow, I didn't mean to drum up this much "offtopic" chatter. If people want a different challenge, PM me, perhaps we can get another similar challenge going and enjoy the 1ft^2 challenge for what it is?

I want to play.
My first grow box meets the requirements.
12"w x 15"d x 40"h
Two 85w CFLs
120mm intake and exhaust fans
DIY carbon scrubber

My first run was in 2006 and yielded 32g from one Nirvana NL

Just popped three Nirvana Citral beans in the tupperware on a wet paper towel.

I'll get some pics up soon

Cheers

Boleman didnt even get a oz out of that grow. There is hardly any bud on the stems in his cab... Not sure why anybody would try and BS other micro growers like that.
