Traveling to Jamaica...anyone have suggestions. Locals welcome!!!

I am so happy that I have the money put back, enough to take a nice
cannatrip. I really am interested in anthropology and the Rastafarian
culture. I have great respect for it and out of all the destinations
I have considered. Cali,Vansterdam or any of the great Canadian
places.

I will be going to Jamaica first though. The money is not accessible
to me yet but it's something I look forward to.

at least get in a taxi and venture into the town-spread them greenbacks around-the locals don't own the resorts-halliburton does!

So I have to post that due to the upcoming birth of a future grower...we won't be able to go on our trip. I'll be almost 8 months preggo by the time we would have gone and there are travel restrictions that cockblocked the shit out of me. :( But, on the other hand, I'll have my son here with us a couple months later...that's a fair trade, lol.

Jamaica on hold, but just on hold....I gotta get back there in a couple years.

if i was choosing the final destination in jamaica it would have to be negril, especially so if you are a ganga tourist. don't get me wrong as top quality is available everywhere in jamaica but negril seemed more tuned in and easier going than the rest of the country. it was just an easier locale to smoke and get to know residents.

imo, jamaica is no more dangerous than many underpriviledged 3rd world countries and in fact, it is tamer than many. but you still need to watch your ass and pay attention especially when away from your resort area. jamaicans suffered under many generations of colonialism and the result is a racial undercurrent. in the evening locals used to be banned from the beaches after 6pm or so. is this still true? a highway divides the city of negril from the beach and it was advised to stay on the beach side at night so your drunken tourist ass could be protected. the tourist smells of money to some poor local lad who has none. but imo, this is one of the most scenic and comfortable countries i have visited and i want to go again. i think it is probably safer than mexico these days? peace-biteme

Depends where you're going. I went to Negril in Apr 2010. Hung at the resort most of the time but did venture out to Rick's Cafe for a few hours. Visited Ted's Shroom Boom shop too. No problems with any people, just too big of a dose of Ted's spacecake.

Thats funny... After reading this thread I have no interest in going to Jamaica. The negatives seem to outweigh the positives

I've been there...it's the second to last place I'd like to be in the Caribbean...Haiti is the last place I'd want to be.

It's ONLY draw is weed.

If you're going to Ocho Rios on a cruise...go to that small little "head shop" in the first shopping plaza OUTSIDE the gates where the vehicles wait. It's on the right, up the hill, kind of in the middle of the parking lot. You can't miss it...there's a big pot leaf. There was a sweet young girl there when I was there...she had the real deal. She'll tell you she doesn't have anything...but she did. It wasn't cheap...$20 for a golf ball bud. It "looked" like Lambs bread/breath from the pictures I've seen. And it fucked us up. Actually, it was our first time smoking again after 20-25 years. It got me hooked again.

But...besides that, the weed, it's fucked up...big time. I don't like places where there HAS TO BE armed cops with Uzi's every 100ft. Nope, we grabbed our weed and got back on the ship. I don't need/want the bullshit. Some places aren't worth the hassle.

If you want my recommendation...St Thomas...the only cruise line frequented island worth going to. I don't know about weed though...we went there before the Jamaica cruise. But you can EASILY bring your own weed on a cruise. We do all the time now.

I have been there numerous times over the past 10 or so years starting in my late teens.... First time there was I stayed in Spanish Town a lil outside Kingston. Travelled alone 99% of the time. Sure it has its crime and ruff areas but if u use common sense and dont put yourself in a situation u wouldnt in a bad area in your hometown then no problem. Try visiting a non tourist area and mingle with the ppl..... majority are friendly as can be and lots of good times to be had all over the island. I've been to pretty much every parish of the island and most places was the only white face around lol...Btw some of the best weed is found over on the south coast or western part of the island, St elizabeth, Sheffield & Orange Hill ( both just outside of negril). And contrary to what ibj had to say it has more to offer than just weed....lots of nice waterfalls, mineral springs,Food, beaches etc...good vibez

Yep and all those things are unique in Jamaica.

Everyone should hike up Dunn's River Falls at least once in their lifetime. The beaches, the topless women, the Red Stripe and the big fatties burning all day and all night long. The weed is no top self club bud but you can find some great stuff had some great hash...and it's cheap. If your with a woman, it might make her feel safer to take guided tours instead of driving your self around. Also, you won't get searched at road blocks when your with a tour.

Irie Lion and Vta ... thank you for the positive outlook. I KNOW that Jamaica has a lot of positive things to offer ...

Just curious as to your thoughts on Montego Bay and the area around there? Irie it sounds like you have been all over the place, I'd be pleased to know your (or anyone for that matter) opinion on the area. Bud? Places to go? Places not to go?

Thanks.

Peace,
sg

Montego Bay is great. Around there you need to check out the beach bar with the water slide. You should also take a Booze Cruise!! A must!

BPJR jamaica has a lot to offer it has to be one of the best places on earth to party, and most ppl are only too happy to party with you!! drinks are cheap and plentifull, and it is easy to find good herb and hash, and possibly borrow a bamboo bong from the barman hehe! but dont let other ppls ability to not look after themself affect your opinion of something that is a truly tropical uplifting experience.
every1 should go atleast once
it truely is amazing what u can do there !

Been there many times back in the day. Used to smuggle herb out of there. Stay away from Kingston and Montego Bay. Don't buy herb in or outside the airport. Take a taxi to the west end, Negril, or Ocho rios. You can defiitely score some very good herb there. Get it from a rasta, but always turn down the first things they show you.. Tell them you want fresh herb with some color, and they will come back with the good stuff. It will blow you away, as it's very strong. The falls in Ocho Rios are beautiful, and they have rafting, diving, etc. Always had a fun time there. Rick's Cafe in Negril at sundown is where everyone meets, and you can score some good herb there. Just don't "settle" for the first thing they show you.
