Growing

Hey friends,

I started toking in the mid 70s. Genuine Afghan hash, at the time :)

My first try indoors was at the beginning of the 80s. A cabinet with... purple UV lights. Didn't know shit about anything. Actually we used to smoke the leaves as they came out!!! Also, the growing manual I bought in the Dam didnt mention anything about photoperiod, blooming, switching the lights, not even males and females actually. I remember the chapter on drying your crop, you were supposed to dry the leaves... Needless to say, it was an absolute failure

Oops no, in fact, the first try was a year or two before that, with my brother, on the parents' balcony. A beautiful..... male plant (didn't even know what that meant at the time). "What's that plant, son ?" "Oh nothing dad, it's some African tobacco..." Course, the characteristic ganja leaf shape wasn't known to the general public at the time.

Since then I left the big city for the country 15 years ago, and I've been growing big bushes outdoor every season since that time.

:) Oh and for that "first" failed grow, we'd treated the (african) bagseed with colchicine... yuck!

h :ying:

Growing weed has done wonders for my interest in botany (went up from 0) and I now grow vegs and have planted some fruit trees.

Gradening is a certain sign of middleage...or so I´m told.

When I started I got a huge interest in "house plants" in general. Had a "girl friend" who, after a few visits, finally voiced her opinion and said she thought it was odd that a guy had so many house plants. Finally she spilled the beans and asked if I was "Gay". Oh well. Had do to something with all that used soil. But me too, zero interest in plants til I found my hobby.

There used to be an English comic who did some jokes about rich, retired, people and their gardeners. His main point being if you were a gardener and retired what would you do?

I may have to try the fruit trees, I like that idea. Not much on outdoor gardens. It just gets to hot to be outside about the time a garden really needs some tending. Now I'm thinking apple trees, great idea. Thanx

I second apple trees and while you´re waitting for them to grow plant a cherry tree as they start yielding faster -depends on strain though ;)

Nice to see the 70's heads :)

Been smoking about 35 years, but only recently got the brainstorm to grow my own (life, work, kids etc.)

Since I've made that choice I've been a happy man

I'm an organice soil guy by virtue of it being the first way that tickled my fancy. We'll see where it leads.

GP: I also find growing in soil to be close to our "hippie roots" and organic growing just makes it better. Looks like this year will give a nice harvest and my first test smoke of Mossy´s Jem was very nice.

hey guys. Been a grower since I was 15. Now 52. Always had a veggie garden. I grew gourmet mushrooms commercially for 7 years. Loved growing weed in Maine. Short summers are intense for gardeners. Now in the sultry south and have switched completely over to autos. I love how the autoflowers fly through their life so quickly. Immediate results. No babysitting plants for 4 or 5 months. This year I set out 3 week old fully sexed transplants on May 10'th or so and was harvested and happy by July 4'th. No rippers, copters, nobody looking for anything yet and I am already done. On top of that I ran a few autos in pots scattered in the landscape over the rest of the summer. The ability to hide autos is great. You buy some seeds, do a seedrun and your set for life. No moms, no clones, no separate rooms. Sometimes I long for a long season haze, but now the breeders are doing autohaze crosses so theres that. Indoors I grow organic in soil under my little 250W HPS in a tupperware container. I make sure that my older friends and family who don't have access to weed can always get some. No money, ever.

My first garden was in indoor grow in 1976 from a seed I got out of a thai stick. I had many grows almost all indoors up until 1990. Got married had kids and gave it up until a couple of years ago. Wife has MS so started growing for her until my kid and his friends ripped off the grow a couple of years ago. No more growing for me until the kids are out of the house.

Three years and counting!

I did´t tell the kids for a couple of years but now they´re old enough to handle it. My younger son helped me empty some used soil the other day and he saw my last two "ladies" -his comment: "Real stealth Dad"...he sounded sarcastic?

Piel: thats cool that your open with your grow with your kids. My deal was a major cluster***. Son and his friends (supposedly friends idea) ripped off the grow and distributed it throughout his private school. They got caught and told everyone I grew it. He gets kicked out of school and the wife has a major meltdown. Everything is okay now but the wife and I agreed no more growing until he is out of the house.

TT:Sorry about what happened when you told your son, shit happens. My kids have tried weed, the older one told me about it but he had an anxiety reaction so he´s had his fill. I´m not so sure about the younger one, he´s a sneaky little guy but he has enough respect (and survival instinct) not to tell anyone. I hope.

Wifey didn´t want me to tell the kids but I grow medically and smoke every evening so sometimes I used to give the boys some real weird answers to questions and the soccer World Cup was hilarious as they couldn´t understand why I couldn´t follow the game! LOL!

Now they understand why I´ve started listening to prog again.

T T , you wouldn't happen to be in Oregon ,would you?, God bless. I used to smoke in the 70's for fun, took about 27 years off and now I use mainly for arthritis.[mainly tincture] I have been growing about a year , not because of the money I save, but I can't stand being at the mercy of dealers. One thing I discovered is my home grown is better in every way compared to the stuff I was buying.

HC: Be4autiful grow! Love dem colas mon.

GP: How do you make your tincture? I made some by heating it for decarb and then in Everclear that I boiled for awhile and then three days in darkness at room temp. I used about 30gr of kiefed weed, lightly kiefed so it should be good.

Funny, I didn't have an interest in general gardening until I started growing cannabis. Now I might start thinking most guys into gardening also grow cannabis. Piel- I make tincture by grinding the herb, baking it on a piece of aluminum foil at 320f for 6 minutes, put it in a glass jar , then cover the herb with everclear 190 proof just enough to be about 1/4 inch higher in the jar than the herb. Shake jar once a day for a month ,then strain and put in bottles with droppers. Half a dropper full put in my herb tea works for me. I don't boil it ,its strong enough for me already.

GP: I used your recipe with just one modification -I only let it sit for a week and I´ve later evaporated it some. The effect is much better than the last time I tried but I still need 5-7 eyedroppers to get a basic buzz -I usually smoke a bowl of kief after the tincture sets in.

I used weed that was kieffed so the potency was probably lower than if I´d used non-processed herb.

Thanks for the recipe.

I used potent gentle handled bud. I like the idea of kief it first and just use more tincture . I only use cannabis at night , because of my job, so my tolerance isn't extremely high. I like to smoke a hit , then drink my tincture in herb tea about the same time. When the smoke starts wearing off a bit , that's about the time the tincture kicks in.
