Weird search warrant issue

Ok my friend has a partner who we'll call Mickey for the sake of keeping the story from getting confusing. So mickey goes out of town for the weekend and when he comes home last night he finds his door kicked in and the power out and obviously plants missing. Mickey calls up my boy and says hey I think you need to get down here I believe we were just robbed. My boy goes down there and as they go through the place with a flashlight they see some of the equipment missing, plants gone, no power at the house, meter pulled from the panel outside. Eventually they find a suspect looking copy of a search warrant. I say suspect because we have a friend who was busted long ago and we were there to help pick up the pieces and saw his copy of the warrant. Anyways my boy tells Mickey look dude go turn yourself in and I'll call lawyer and get on the bail. Mickey goes down to the PD and says hi I'm so and so and here to turn myself in. They look up his name and say dude we have no clue why you are here there is no warrant for you. He asks for them to check again explaining he came home to a total mess and a copy of a search warrant with his name on it. They check again and another officer comes out and says dude nothing on file just beat it. So Mickey leaves confused as hell. Now my cynical ass thinks it is possible rippers left bogus warrant so he would turn himself in. I mean what better way to make sure the victim doesn't come looking for you right? Anyone want to chime in on possible explanations? My advice to dude was clean up EVERYTHING and move TONIGHT not to mention DENY DENY DENY in the future.

I don't know, if there was a warrant it is just going to go out without him knowing and he is going to get pulled over for a busted tail light and booked. No doubt I would move and next time make damn sure there is no way to tell I grow.

That's the thing he went down to the PD and tried to turn himself in but there was no arrest warrant so this has us wondering if the search warrant left at his place was even real or not.

It should have a callback number on it...

ya dont they usually leave a number of the detective of your case??
Im pretty sure thats how its done, they leave a callback number of whoever is in charge of your case

Just because they issue and execute a search warrant doesn't mean that they file criminal charges automatically. It's not hard to find numerous reports of search warrants being executed and evidence seized and no arrests made at the time. I think it highly unlikely that rippers would pull the electric meter.

ok so the question now is if he cleans up and gets the hell out of dodge asap and denies the plants being his later on will it help?

well because let's say it's not legit do you really want to sit there and insist mr. officer sir but i really was growing weed!

if it was a fake warrant then they expected someone to come home/protest the jack move, so the fake was there to show someone what was up.

Doubt it was a fake.

He can deny it all he wants but they have searched the house and found weed which means they had enough suspicion and evidence to get a warrant. Now they have evidence which they can use against him in a court of law to prove that he was in fact growing mj. It doesn't matter if he runs away and denies it, he will probably still be charged and indicted.

Does the warrant have a signature from a Judge and the Courts stamp?

Does the warrant say who the police department is the warrant was given to?

Does the warrant say what they are looking for and where they can search?

It shouldn't be hard to figure out if it's real or not.... You also better clean up everything because the cops are going to investigate a fake warrant and a break in....

I'd put money on it that mickey really did get busted, meter pull and all. I've been there done that. After they raid the grow they still have to finish investigating, they won't immediately put a warrant out for his arrest. I'd "lawyer up" for sure, he can contact the DA and see what they are planning to do, setup a walk through when the time is right. Sorry to hear about your friends impending legal troubles.

well what really sucks is he is partners with my boy who tends to help me out every now and then so god forbid they start doing their jobs and actually investigating hard and connect the dots. not too worried about consequences though just losing my shit. had a friend get busted last december with more plants than mickey, guns, also convicted felon and ended up with 3 years probation so it's not too bad in my area despite what they claim.

Contact your power company and report that your meter was stolen. Tell them you don't want to be charged with tampering and you need them to come out immdiately. They should be able to pull your account up and setup a repair time, I'm sure if you had your meter pulled in the execution of a warrant they would have red flagged your account. If so its time to get the fuck out of dodge.

I'd lawyer up immediately and go to a relative's house that is out of state and leave your number with your attorney to stay in contact with.

It takes hours if not days to get all the paperwork together after they have busted a home and want to prosecute. It will not be on the computer until a formal indictment is handed down, in most places...or they will issue a warrant for whoever is the legal occupant and worry later about who owned what there.

But the cops had to have a warrant in the first place and it, as Scorpio says, must have partucular info related to the exact address and spelling out what they are looking for and who, if any, people are being sought.

This is highly suspicious...has anyone really read the supposed warrant in detail to see what it says/ It would be very easy to confirm a real one; the info would make sense and be specific and not general in nature, normally.

Clean the place thoroughly and be ready for anything. But no matter what happens, get a lawyer to do ALL the talking from now on with the cops, if need be. Sounds fishy to me..
