Fantastic Chiller

Once again I find myself rebuilding/relocating my cultivating area. When you've been doing this for as long as I have, you'd think I would have gotten use to it. But it really puts a dampener on a schedule, If you know what i mean.:blowbubbles: Anyhow,,,when I run across a GREAT product at a descent price,,,I like too pass the word along. So here's what I've found: I was searching high and low for a 1/2 hp chiller at a discount price. Those of you that know,.are aware that they can cost up to $1200 to $1500. So turning to the trusty e-bay. I found this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...UCI%2BUCC&otn=5&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1348

This is my 4th chiller over the years. The guy says "Its The Last Chiller You'll Ever Need". I Hope So.:jump:

OK I know what your thinking,,,,wtf,,,,I also had the same reaction. But I ordered the ugly lil thing. And kept my fingers crossed.:ying: You have to order the controller separate (Rancor Single Stage $75). Just plugs in,,,really simple.

But when I set it up to chill my 150 gallon rez, it had absolutely NO PROBLEM bringing that sucker right down to 68 degrees over night. Theirs a plus or minus setting. I set mine at 68+2. And the next day, she stayed between 68 and 70 degrees. And that was with 3 ks of light going.

Yup,,,,This is a nice commercial grade, (made by an individual in his shop over in Hollywood, Florida).

(Im cloning right now, temp set at 75 +2)

I do recommend painting it white tho, I did. Only thing I seen wrong with it. "It Was Black." Here's a pic :artist:

I had been eyeing that chiller for a bit now. Glad to hear its working out for you. Might have to pull the trigger. Already have the Ranco temp controller.

That's what I'm using for my diy. a hair 5200 btu. Time to get a torch! I wonder how they seal the tubes. I also understand they use a non corrosive aluminium were there's contact, not copper. I've been looking at axial condensors to do this.

they seal the tubes with solder like normal copper plumbing then you leak test with nitrogen gas as it has a very high psi..then they pull a vaccume on all the lines then fill with refridgerant....a hvac tech can do this for very little cost if you solder lines correct and can test with a high psi gas....and where water goes they will use alum like you said or stainless....as copper and nutes = bad for plants....i got a old haier 5k btu i just took out of a room in my house as the bottom of the ac is rotted out and was making noises when compressor kicked on due to lack of metal support...still blows cold...if anyone wants the compressor or parts from it let me know i will gladly help :)

I'm wondering about were the PVC tube and the copper or aluminum tube exits. Those joints. How do they seal them. Seems like it would be hard to get a waterproof seal with cold metal that expands and contracts.

I live within driving distance of the guy who makes them, and am going there on Monday, or Tuesday. He told me 15% discount for cash, and no shipping. Thanks for cluing me in about the controller.

I plan on combining it with one of these.......

They want you to buy all this extra stuff too.

Most of it, except the thermostat I can buy cheaper somewhere else, or make it myself. Thinking especially about the cooling coil. I'm sure I can get 1 foot of 1/2 inch stainless tubing, and get it bent.

Gonna be building a new grow area soon. Only 7'x5'6"x8', and want to try, and make it a sealed room.

Bazarocka can you give me some idea of how much heat that chiller puts out? The guys at hydro innovations recommend putting their chiller outside. I'll have a 792 cubic foot area outside the grow room. That should be enough to absorb the heat I hope.

Well. I finally bought one, but went with the 1hp because I'm going to be doing two rooms with the H.I. Iceboxes. I did make a DIY chiller for the 5' x 7' room, and hooked it to an Icebox, and got great results. Using a 360 cfm fan I just recirculated the air in the room, and it kept the temps in the mid to high 70's depending on the season. This time I have a controller, and will have 2 8' x 8' Rooms where I will veg, and flower switching from MH to HPS when the time comes. Just using 1 1000 watt light in each room, but will have all walls lined with reflective film. I have a couple vertizontal reflectors, and am trying to decide whether to use them, or just the cool tubes. Using the reflectors will mean a little adjustment to allow for the cool tube.

Any suggestions?
