i use the super lumens and keep them on all the time on my 600w dual ballasts....

bulbs need to be replaced anyways i figure so why the hell not use the to their full potential?

the super lumen feature is great if you ask me.. turns a 600w to like a 750-800 watt brightness it seems...

I wouldn't use the Super Lumens setting. Its dumb.

A Lumatek gives you "20-30% more light" than a traditional ballast.

It pumps the bulb that much harder. When you switch it to super lumens, IMO, you run the risk of popping bulbs. Hortilux are known to not stand up to the extra WHAMMY a digital ballast puts out.

So maybe run a bulb "meant for a digi" or just leave it on 600W setting.

I think people will be changing bad bulbs out more often than they should if they use the Super Lumens setting. Again, I think it is a dumb, marketing thing more than a useful option.

i think your supposed to run them normaly for a few weeks
to break the bulb in then switch to super lumens.

from what I understand, you use a bulb with the same output as the ballast is rated for.
I have heard before that bulbs must meet digital specs, but don't know really.
I recently replaced my ballast with the lumatec 400 and my hortilux bulb lasted just weeks after replacing the ballast...but not sure if the bulb was on its way out anyway or not.
will def check out digitally matched bulbs for this application.
thnx

What extra WHAMMY? My digi slowly scales up seems easier on the bulb than a magnetic... I have a Hortilux and its fine, 600w hps on super lumens setting. Where are you getting this info.

Ha ha ok I'll work on that Lil Wayne

I barely get on ICmag really I dunno there's not enough mojo here maybe because theres a million jillion subforums splitting up all the action.

I still miss OG its like your first love breaking up with you for no reason damn it..

Been using the same hortilux bulb for 8 months myself lol. Its got some carbonization so probably needs changing but it doesnt really hurt my yields. Just got another light going now so I can do a side-by-side in a couple months I guess. But I think the carbonization is from me trying to flip it off, and instead accidentally flipping it off then back on without letting the bulb cool, so my bad. Maybe that's whats causing this "hortilux popping" rumor, people not following directions. Hoping to get more clarification from Admiral Canna on this subject.

I never thought about it, but I have a Lumatek 600 super lumens right next to a galaxy standard 600. I'm going to turn the Lumatek up to super and do a side by side.

in my experience with bulbs, i have figured out they break when they go from hot to cold only.... i have never once (out of probably a hundred bulbs) witnessed a bulb exploding from too much power or whatever you folks speak of...

thats would be a nice experiement... but a more accurate experiment would be using two 600w lumateks and use the super lumen on one and just the regular setting on the other...

but EVEN THEN you are still looking at many diff variables that could effect your final statistics...

truthfully myself, i would much rather crank it up to super lumens and ware out the bulb rather then pussy footing it and being scared to ruin my bulb and just using the regular setting...

the super lumen setting was done for a reason... if it really causes no difference, I highly doubt Lumatek (very reputable manufacturer) would invest the money into producing them and putting them out on the streets.....

the ballast game is fairly new, and with all of the advances in the marijuana industry, i pat Lumatek on the back for advancing the ballast game, and pushing the limits beyond the traditional ballast...

innovation is KEY, and I would much rather give my money to lumatek then to any other company

Lumatek = Sunlight Supply right?

Sunlight Supply is a quality-minded company in my experience.. To such a degree I almost think they're a german company..

I was looking at some hydrofarm reflectors the other day up close and personal... unimpressed. Now I gotta special order me some SuperSuns because Discount Hydro doesnt carry Sunlight Suppy reflectors anymore wtf. The Lumesun reflectors look like the Sunlight Supply reflectors but a little lower quality in the design, like more gap behind the bulb and little annoying crap like that

Does anybody know of another online hydro shop that is as reliable and discreet in the packaging as Discount Hydro? That hopefully sells Sunight Supply reflectors?
