Dominican Republic is the place then known as Hispaniola (the island D. republic + haiti) were Cristobal Colon's ships basically wrecked. He also died and was buried in D.R.
DR is not the west indies, it is basically part of latin america and geographically it's a caribbean island.
when he discovered AMERICA, it means the Continent, which is the Western half of the world. (which he did not really "discover"). He never set foot in what is knows and the USA.
The Tainos (as in aztecs to mexicans) were a peaceful people, no savagery (cuba's indigenous people however did practice some cannibalism) after their decimation, the need for workers arose (Tainos eventually fought and refused to eat rather than be slaves) so this is the point were Africans are brought to the western world.
what we know as the slur "n*gga", is a mispronunciation of "negro", which means black, or black person. This is also because the caribbean was were the first american slaves came from, sold as objects, negros. Then when this proved popular and profitable Africa was the next destination.
