Hey all!

Just thought I'd share my excitement with you guys..

I'm purchasing 20 acres in Northern California.

It's mainly forested hills, complete with a small river.

I'm very excited to be getting a "retreat" from the Los Angeles suburbs.

Come next spring this is where me and my ladies will be loving life. :dance013:

LOTS of people walk rivers at harvest time looking for just what you're talking about. Be safe...put up a privacy fence to keep casual lookers at bay. Not many will chance a foray onto your land to peek over a 10ft privacy fence. Oh...and get a couple of noisy dogs too. Be EXTRA vigilant around harvest time...sleep out there if you must. It's the fearless 15-21 y/o that will be looking to rip you. If you're WAY out there...be EXTRA careful. They know nobody can hear too.

I probably have never experienced before what I'm going to experience this next growing season.

Obviously I don't plan to fence my whole property. Here's my idea..

Construct a normal sized fence around where my grow area will be. About 10 or 20 feet out from the inner fence I'll construct another fence, completely enclosing it, and this one taller and maybe with barbed wire.

I already planned to construct a fenced area for my dogs to roam around in, but now I've combined my grow area and created a "mote" with my dogs.

My two red-noses, the mastiff, and great pyrenes should be enough to ward off anyone that wants to rip me. My Boxer however gets to sleep with me :]

Sounds great.

Ima be in the NoCal hills next season, too, on a piece of land near Willits. The goal is for the wife and I to get a place of our own in the next few years, after scouting the mendo/humboldt area a bit.

I've also considered the dog run/garden moat set-up.

I would just post up some "cattle crossing" signs along with private property signs stating you intent to shoot anyone who comes onto your property. Now not that exact saying BUT use a "cattle" option because people take cattle stealing seriously most anywhere still and it could be a great scare tactic to keep those youngins at bay.

Maybe a

"Anyone Passed This Sign Will Be An Assumed Cattle Thief And Will Be Dealt With Accordingly"

btw

getting property is in my 5-10 year goal (depending on the market) as well. I am shooting for 40 to 100 acres and right now the prices really aren't all that bad. Trying to locate something with year long water and the highest mountain peaks in the area. I don't want anyones property above mine SO it might not be the simplest location to find.

If I can get MORE property without the above criteria then I will odds are go that route. Anything in the 400 acre+ for a decent price would be a very sound investment and the further away from any incorporated city the better. It will take them longer to work their way up the hill and spread their "democracy" and "local government" and tell us how to live. My theory at least.

Hm, that's a good question! It's only a good sized stream, it runs year round but it could probably only be considered a "river" when it's at its strongest in spring.

The land was an old gold mining claim. The man who's selling it is also selling a 40 and 80 acre lot adjacent to the one I'm buying. I'm considering buying them all. The 20 acre is $3,000.

Wait.... 3000 total or per acre?

$3,000 total for a 200 ft by 200 ft piece of land. I definitely like the cattle sign idea.

Really though, unless they're being dropped in by helicopter I don't see any way a ripper can get past my "dog mote".

Buying propert in Cali right now sounds to me like it will be a good investment. Even if a person bought it,held on to it a few years, and then sold it.
