what he said also 5 amps +or minus is nothing if you want to run a grow house go 200amp panel
wire lights to highest voltage posible more efficient
run wire the next wire size
if you can afford it go solar

I'm just guessing here, but he probably means that you should run your wire a size larger than the minimum required. For example if you were planning on running 14 gauge you should run 12 gauge, or if you were planning on running 12 gauge you should run 10 gauge. I run everything in 12 or 10 myself.

so the smaller the gauge the more power it can take?

I've never bought 10 ga. at Home Depot, but I am sure that they would carry it. It would be a good idea to run your plug circuits in 12 gauge. I don't know that a blanket oversizing of the conductors is quite what I would do, but it is far better than pushing the specifications. What do you mean that you don't have solar in your area - not much sunshine?

40 amps at 240 volts is 9600 watts. De-rated to 80% for constant service it's almost 7700 watts. Some more detail on what you want to do might be in order.

the room is going to be 4k watts + a 2HP iceking chiller. + fans/pumps etc. Overkill is the safest way to go right?

Overkill is always good! It is also expensive if you overdo it. Looks like you are on the right track, though.

I was looking at that the other day and wondering if it came UL approved. The receptacles are apparently a proprietary item for CAP from what I could find. I have a hard time believing that UL would go for something that isn't NEMA compliant and allowed you to use either 120 or 240 on the same plug configuration, unless I'm missing something there. After you get it, could you post if it has UL approval?
