So Im revving up to do my biggest grow yet. Im not worried about total grow time so vegging for awhile longer isnt really a concern to me other then quality and overall yield (which of course many different factors come into play).

Im having a hell of a time deciding what size containers to use. I could go with 12 x 3 gallon pots or 6 x 5 gallon buckets. Im not sure if I could fit 9 - 5 gallons in that space with the light Im using, I kind of doubt it.

What do you guys think?? I make up my mind, then I read something else that makes me want to go the other direction. I was pretty set on 12 x 3 gal's, but now Im reading that many are pulling 5-6 OZ's per plant in 5 gal?? 5 OZ @ 6 - 5 gallon buckets is 30 OZ whereas hoping for 2 OZ per plant in 3 gallon buckets is only around 24 OZ. Plus with a bigger bucket I feel like I can ammend the soil up and wont have to micro manage them as much.

Then theres the wild card of whether or not I could fit 9 - 5 gallons in the tent.... lol... which would take the cake but I kinda doubt the light could cover that much canopy ????

Any suggestions??

Heres some pics of the rig ... I havent got a scrubber yet but thats coming up soon...

Nice tent you've got setup. It looks just like mine but just a little bit bigger. I've got a 600w running in my DR100 tent.

If I were you I'd go with between 6 and 9 5 gallon containers. That 600 will easily cover the entire tent trust me. It's a bright SOB.

I only have 3 plants in my tent now, but I vegged them a month so they are pretty large. I also defoliated them when they stopped stretching so the buds are getting big from top to bottom.

Nice tent bro. Love the SJ's! Doing 4 in a DR100L. If quality over quanity go with the fewer plants in bigger pots. More room and light for the ladies, may take a little longer but wth. I fit 4 5 gal pots in mine, I don't like to smother the ladies and still have some room to move'em around. But I'm just a newb with some change in his pocket. Good luck man! :good:

Maybe Ill shoot for 6 - 5 gallon buckets then. What are you guys pulling per plant in the 5 gal's??

9 - 5 gallon pots will fit, Im just not sure how crowded it would get once the ladies mature... it might be too much Im not sure.

Cool setup.

Random q's: How are your temps? Ambient temps? Do you run your fan at full speed?

The DR120 is a bit bigger so I'm not sure but I could fit 6 fives in mine, it would be nuts to butts but it would work. My first attempt was poor, and second is a work in progress, so I can't comment on yeild. I am hoping to get at least 2 per lady this time around. I am sure a more experienced grower could do better.

As Nicoli questioned, what are the other specs of your set-up? What genetics do you have in mind?

Well, Im still working on dry runs to get everything dialed in before I put real plants in.

The vortex is a no-name brand fan rated at 424cfm. Tomorrow I have to run to lowes or HD to get some more ducting and a coupler. I had the fan blowing into the room the tent was in and it shot ambient temps up to 98 freaking degrees! No joke. Its an obvious error though, venting the hot air straight out of the tent into the room the tent is in... is only recycling the air so of course it would get hot. Theres a window directly behind the tent so it will be simple to vent straight outside.

I can tell you this.... the interior of the tent was also at 98 degs, the exact same temp as the ambient room tent... which tells me my exhaust to intake is perfect since theres no increase in internal tent temp compared to ambient temps.

As mentioned tomorrow Im venting straight outside and Ill report back, but ambient room temps are 76 degs so I expect to be under 80. Then Ill work on dialing down the fan controller to see how low I can run the fan while still maintaining proper temps.

I think I could fit 9 - 5 gallons in there ... as far as the buckets are concerned (remember its 48"x48") no as far as managing the canopy .... that might prove to be more difficult. ;) I was able to pull 1 OZ per plant in 1 gallon containers under a 250HPS with only tomato tone fertz and agricultural lime (along with a few molasses waterings). From what Ive been reading Im hoping to pull at least 4 OZ per plant in a 5 gallon bucket.

Any other input on numbers of 5 gallon buckets in a 48"x48" under a 600??? Any input on what your yielding with 5 gallon soil grows per plant??

I have a couple different strains haven't quite decided yet ... white rhino, blueberry x white rhino, and a unknown strain from Dr. Atomic.

I have just upgraded from a DR120 to a DR240, I would use 5- 3 gallons or 4- 5 gallon pots, I think 30oz is abit to high, you have 37.5 Watts per square foot, I think the best you can do is get 5oz off 4 plants in 5 gallon pots

I used 9 3gallon pots in mine. And each grow I used less and got more

Gl dude nice clean set up man

Sweet bro! Whats the rh in the tent? Temp/rh control can be a pain but it sounds like things are gonna work out. Strains sound frosty too! :lurk:

For my tent I have a window fan in the room the tent is in to help vent the warm room. This helps temps in the tent stay below 85 when lights are on and above 65 when the lights are off. I use a 4" vortex speed controlled, CAN 2600 filter, non air cooled 600w Galaxy.

I currently have 3 plants in 5 gallon containers that only have 3 weeks left. Once I chop/dry/weigh I'll let you know the numbers.

I have a 4x4 tent to and am thinking of sticking 9 3gl hempy coco. I run a 6 in vortex with a 400mh for veg and will light up a 1kw for bloom.

I run str8 ducting horizontal I move the plants up and down not the light.

Sirus - Im not sure yet .. I just got back from lowes and got the extra ducting and couplers I needed to vent out the window. Ill be setting it up in the next few hours or so and fire her up to see how it stabilizes.

FunkBomb - Please do bro! Ild love to know what you pull per plant.

Hydro - Gracias man, appreciate it!!

Just got done mixing up my soil mix. Looks like I have about 25-30 gallons or so and will let it set some more until I need it.

I run a dr120 with a 1000 watt. I had a 600 and recently switched it up. I can tell you I can fit 9 3 gallon buckets in there no problem and the plants are monsters. In 5 gallon buckets you will have some unruly monsters. You may want to reconsider how many 5 gallon buckets are put in there. 6 would be optimum and fill in nicely. In 3 gallon buckets I still get 2 to 4 oz/plant(depends on strain) Plus the 3 gallon buckets are faster to flush then 5`s. Just my :2cents: Good luck to ya!!

Thats good input, just the kind I need some real world Ive done it advice. Thanks man ...

As mentioned I keep going back and forth ... With those 3 gallon buckets, is the canopy pretty full? Seems like there might be room for 12 - 3 gal's ... but the plants themselves might get crowded out??

5 gallon vs 3 gallon... what to do what to do lol... I have a little while to decide I wont need to make up my mind for another few weeks anyway.

The tent is offically, vented ... right outside the window. Have it running now to check temps in the tent and in the room....

While the window vent looks like it works great-it seems like it might look sketchy from the outside. Any worries?
