Breaking News: Dutch Cabinet plans strict coffeeshop policy!

New serious measures are being taken in the Dutch coffeeshop policy. The expected new Dutch rightwing Parliament has planned to impose a new pass system for coffeeshops. The passes are only available for people over 18 years of age and are in possession of a Dutch passport.
It basically comes down to the fact that tourists can't visit coffeeshops in The Netherlands anymore. However, it is not clear whether there will be exemptions for the coffeeshops in the big cities and in the border areas.

Another new policy that will be established is the 350 meter distance to schools. Coffeeshops that are in a radius of 350meters walking distance from a school will be closed.

So far the bad news..

Not when you live in the UK. Besides...some of us who have been naughty boys in the past wouldn't be allowed in to the US.

I second that!

Yes i think the cup will be held in the US next year,
so this year may the the end of an era for Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam

This "breaking news" repeats every 6-12 months, they have been saying the exact same thing for several years now. If it ever happens, I would bet amsterdam gets an exception. If it doesn't, amsterdam tourism would take a huge blow, and amsterdams economy would go very bad very fast. A lot of people work in the service industry in amsterdam, most of those jobs would no longer be needed.

I wouldn't doubt that these liberal policies they instituted were designed to find the flaws in 'legalization' and to correct them.
give em a length of rope and let them hang themselves with it! kind of attitude. Keep an eye on this situation, from what I gathered they are to deny health benefits if you purchase over a certain amount. pretty harsh rebound from the lax attitude we have been led to believe existed.

The right wingers over there will realize what they did when the money stops pooring in from overseas....

I plan to attend the 420 cup this year, I hope no BS laws pass after I have reserved my houseboat and plane tickets...

Hookers are still ok though right? The girlfriend and I are looking forward to some strange :)

Precisely, this is classic politics. There must be some pressure applied to them to even consider this. Again tourism and revenue generated by such would take massive blows and not just yearly with the cup event. Somehow I don't really believe they would screw themselves so easily. Although I won't rule out that slim chance.

This is surprising. It's interesting that as certain places in the US are attempting to repeal cannabis laws other countries outside of the US appear to be getting harsher policies. Isn't cannabis only illegal in most countries because of pressure from the US government?

I really wonder what's up with those "has to be this and this far from this and that" rules. It's the same with tobacco shops around here. But how are school kids supposed to get those drugs if they're not at legal age?? as the shop owners are obliged to ask for an ID to sell their products.

however I agree with SuperHemp. this was said many many times before and never happened. all they did was the "coffeeshop card" around the german boarder coffeeshops like in Venlo

+1

I wonder if Nol still plans on having his employees walk around with shirts on saying " I'll buy you weed", if this actually happens.

Dutch Government Bans Cannabis Tourism?

Dutch Government Bans Cannabis Tourism?

Considering the economic downturn that almost the entire world is experiencing, one would think that eliminating a sizable portion of their tourist trade would not be altogether a wise thing -- unless they think that A'dam's red-light district will make up the losses. Since a number of Dutch seed houses are associated with coffee-shops, this could not bode well for the annual cannabis cup competition.

I wonder if the USA DEA is augmenting Dutch revenues that the elimination of cannabis tourism is likely to impact. It isn't as if the Obama administration's continued "War on Drugs" isn't at least as aggressive as the previous regime's -- Obama has hired the very same people, after all, and bumped up the WoD budget as well.

This really sucks. Liberalization of attitudes and laws pertaining to cannabis are losing ground, at the same time that progress elsewhere is attained -- Canada and the Netherlands are 2 prime examples of the former. This is a global war, between people and corporate/government special interests.

Absolutely yes, because of the USA government.

Absolutely yes, because of the USA government.

USA taxpayer funds spent foolishly overseas to affect foreign government drug policies, without taxpayer approval, and by both Republican and Democratic Party controlled government. This Corporate State once went by another, less "politically correct" term, fascism. Welcome to 1984, live and in person ...
