But as far as medical marijuana goes.

It doesn't effect us. It should help us. My Vicodin was never Taxed, why should my Medical Marijuana be taxed?

Well if the end goal is Marijuana available on the free market then consider that OTC purchases of Nyquil, Goldenseal, and Tylenol are all have a sales tax that the state collects.

Honestly I hope someday that we can walk into ANY store and find a bottle of "insert trendy strain name here" sitting on the shelf next to the asprin. When that does happen in order to have the parity we demand as tokers we will have to give up sales taxes at the VERY least.

To me it seems you have one distorted view on reality and the world at large. If 19 does pass and your 'pops' is out on his ass by the highway holding a cardboard sign, it would seem he just gave up or something. Is it so much to ask a person who we might assume might have at least a decent intellect and wisdom about him that he compete legally in our free trade capitalist market? Vegetable farmers to brewaries and wineries to distilleries and clothes manufacturers all have to play by the same basic rules and your 'pops' shouldn't because he grows cannabis? Not saying I would do so but how would you feel if someone called the feds on your pops instead? How would you feel knowing some local LEO's you may have known and been friendly with shoved your 'pops' into the back of a squad car and sat back with their coffee while the feds tore apart his home and livelihood? Prop 19 is a chance of greater security for him and others aswell starting at a state level and encouraging your own community to stand up against federal tyranny. Youre completely right, in this day and age aswell as most of recorded known history has been ruled by "BIG $$$". Although thats never stopped small business before and don't you think we should bother to do something about that instead touting about how far we've come in the passed few decades and spewing that it's good enough. Go lay in a hole with that shit, I'm out in the midwest without so much as medical I dare you to do the same you do in say I dunno Garberville as you would here... especially if you like the way handcuffs clicking and barred doors sound slamming. Seems to me you and your 'pops' need to go take a few lessons in american civics and economics. Sorry if this seems like an attack but this comes from one of the manners I was taught it goes something along the lines of "think twice before you speak."

You're a fucking clown. You are speaking your opinion and a rather uneducated one at that.

Whaaat! Walmart tactics again there will be no small business..
Walmart is the king shit of reatail because the stuff they sell is not important. Kids's clothes, rubbermaid containers, coffee makers and DVD's. Either quality is of little concern or it is the exact same product for cheaper. how does this relate to MJ? So you think the big money ops will be able to produce the same quality that a good small time grower can produce? I'm sure not. People who want cheap and easy will buy the walmart weed and people who want the good stuff will go elsewhere. No question in my mind that there will be a market for both. Youre Walmart analogy was regurgitated without any thought behind it.

Prop 19 is a California state law , that if does pass Feds will shoot down either way watch!
you may be right but they will take notice of the peoples desre to legalize MJ. If it doesn't pass they will sing victory songs and again ignore our questions an requests for MJ legalization. Remember the Obama youtube question thing? Either way, if they do try to put their foot down it will be on Lee and other high profile big scale growers. I, like many, am very anxious to see what they will do! For sure if it doesn't pass we know what they will do... same as they are doing now. Busting people and telling lies about our favorite plant.
Dorthy this Prop 19 yellow brick road does not go to kansas..

I'm not really sure what you are trying to say here, but if you are quoting county names that are opposing prop 19, then great. Lets put a law in place that won't allow then to say didly about personal gardens, use, possession and employer-employee drug issue, OK?

Im not gonna get in a pissing match with some upset angry dude from midwest !

pull your head out of your can of Skoal Bobby Labonte!! the west coast MMJ movement is making easyer for everyone either way! except Florida maybe lol

The Cali MMJ movement started it all. No question about that. Your basic population makeup is far more liberal than most places. Actors, artists, homosexuals, and others who are free thinkers and rule breakers. I mean really... can you compare the midwest with Cali? Our Mayors and Governers are big businessmen and stuffed shirts. You guys get "I got you babe" and the Terminator. Different cultures that can't be compared! As for what we are doing, well we are fighting hard but we have a tougher fight. One part of that is the elected officials that find their way to office and another is the outside view of the Cali med scene. It has gotten to a point where it now hurts other states trying to get MMJ laws enforced. Free-for all growing without income tax, overflow product making it to the streets, recs for hangnails... that is the stuff that states look at when they look at MMJ laws. Many states are trying to push for government only grows and Pharmacy distrobution. I'm not hatin on Cali, you guys have a great thing going, but it is to a point where it is looked upon as a new type of problem when some other states consider MMJ. Not too many people on this planet would deney a severily sick person access to MMJ or anything else they want. it is all the other stuff that make states NOT have viable MMJ laws.

dammed if you do dammed if you dont! <--- get it!!
I don't really follow this

screw the mom and pop stores its all about wallmart !!
Who the hell is saying that? Not even R. Lee is saying that!!! I'm sure that everyone here is wanting the mom and pop shops to thrive. I'm sure that most coonsumers will appreciate the love that the mom and pop shops put into their product and will be willing to pay a couple extra bucks to get it. Those who smoke the mids will be looking to the walmarts and those of us whao appreciate quality, most people I would say, are going to be looking for something better.

find take it exploit it for your own personal satisfaction
That's what you and your soon to be out of work, sign-holding pop do? sounds to me like that is pretty traditional mindset for Cannabis growers. That mindset is probably the only reason most of us even know what the hell pot is! How is someone with more business savy and more resources any different from you?

changing our terms! flowers edibles concentrates LOL
its called buds browines and hash LOL
Did you have to look them up? Flowers, edibles, and concentrates are new terms? It's a legal document jackass, you use proper identifiable terms in legal documents.

i guess there is no country for old men! LOL
never did finish that one... kept falling asleep. is that about people who grow pot illegally and then fight to keep prohibition active so that they don't have to pay taxes, go legit, work for someone else, or get a normal job? I'm going to have to watch that movie again!

to say again, i'm voting NO and so are most of my friends and family..

prop 19 is a government ploy to gain more power.

anybody in california can use ganja legally, much moreso than prop 215 would allow, by simply getting a doctor's rec.

if legalization must come, let it be tax-free and cultivation friendly.

my dad, who is 70 yrs old and has been smoking for 40+ yrs, says he sees prop 19 as a desperate attempt by our broke, corrupt gov't to exploit and weaken yet another subculture in the name of "freedom"

Prop 19 is a ploy to get drug sales off the streets, and bury the violent gangs and cartels. Prop 19 is a ploy to protect smokers with laws that forbid workplace discrimination and arrests. Prop 19 is a ploy to give everyone in the state the indisputable right to grow, smoke and posses MJ. Prop 19 is a ploy to inspire overall legitimacy for a harmless plant. Prop 19 is a ploy to allow a person to open up hash bars and other businesses that will provide jobs and massive amounts of tourism dollars. Prop 19 is a ploy to prevent people from growing on state land and from stealing electricity that the other consumers in CA have to pay for with higher rates. Prop 19 is a ploy to show the people of the world that it can be done. Prop 19 is the first step in freeing a plant that has been in chains for all of our lifetimes.

Pot is not legal in Cali. Cali gave out 60,000 misdemeanor tickets last year... that is not legality. Currently all profits are going to the LEO when they make their busts, and growers who aren't (for the most part) kicking money back to the state. By regulating the industry the people of Cali are taking some of that money back instead of it all going to the growers. Money to be made and money to be saved... nothing wrong with that.

I'm sorry to hear that your dad feels that way, but he certainly must see that this is the single biggest step towards freeing MJ that has been taken in the WORLD since the coffee shops in Amsterdam opened. This is historic.

Jed

*edit* shcrews, I just noticed your sig, and you should also look for the statement that Jack Herer's family made about prop 19.

Well jed thanks I guess haha, I kinda feel like I prepared for a battle with my mental ammunition and some merc rushed in ahead of me when I was reloading or something hahaha. I don't want to make it seems like a war/battle by any means. I suppose the only thing I can add is most of what I heard reading that was "my daddy this and my daddy that". So preschool its just sad, I realize ya'll may have great respect for your father however, man up and think for yourself. Your fathers lived in a different world at your age or younger. I also hate when these ass-clown thin-skinned west coast kids act like its such a cakewalk especially for the rest of the country. Ever been beyond your own ant hill son? Prop 19 is a solid step forward for the cannabis community at large. I'm getting really impatient with the converts thing. I mean we all love cannabis in some fashion or another right? Why in the blue hell are we disagreeing on something so benign? I expected the nay-say from non-enthusiasists/patients who are caught up in reefer madness Ver. 1.0-present. Get the rocks out of your skulls and help make this happen.

Your choice...

prop 19 is a government ploy to gain more power.

How would they gain more power?

anybody in california can use ganja legally, much moreso than prop 215 would allow, by simply getting a doctor's rec.

False.. I know people who have been turned down.

if legalization must come, let it be tax-free and cultivation friendly.

Unfortunately, this will never happen. It must be taxed, like everything else on this planet.

my dad, who is 70 yrs old and has been smoking for 40+ yrs, says he sees prop 19 as a desperate attempt by our broke, corrupt gov't to exploit and weaken yet another subculture in the name of "freedom"

My dad who is about 66, was an old school grower and smoker (remember nickel bags and lids?) sees this as one of the best attempts of normalizing MJ and bring it into the mainstream.

reasonable point of view, I compare it to Barry O. Barry got his start in politics around 1995 in the Illinois senate. Then got the U.S. Senate in 2004 and only served for 2 years before offically running for presdient in 2006. Where's the experience? So just like your reference of not rushing into things it's kinda to late, 50+million people did just that in my opinion in the election of Barry O. Now the Barry O. administration stands to do more harm then good in the long run. Now the same people are ready to vote yes and let the state tell them what they can and cannot do with marijuana even more so then before.
I seriously would like to believe that the politicans in the state capital have the best intentions for WE THE PEOPLE reguarding Prop 19, hell everything but I am seriously not seeing it. I see a power grab, I see people being told just what they want to hear,I see unions getting involved and their is a reason and they have not been 100% truthful as to why, I see people giving up their freedom.
I seriously wish people would demand no more back door deals, 100% total transparency then to just get high. Think about it, having a government that is not hinding anything is a lot better then getting high. If we could fix that first then the other issues we all have just might have a real chance of being addressed and then fixed.
Everybody in this state/country has a different agenda at different points in time and the politicians & political non-profit groups know this. These non-profit groups that are pushing the propagranda have studied how you act, how you react, what gets you exicted/disappointed through polling and now they tell you what you want to hear.

JJ: That method of changing facts like that is their standard MO. Its on every page of each thread of prop 19 discussions.

The same BS tactics the reefer madness-true believers have been using for many years. It's disgusting to see people who CLAIM to be part of our culture using the same tactics.

I think everyone in america at this point feel about the same in at least small differing ways. However it's not likely within our means to change the entirety of the government especially in one fell swoop. Simply put prop 19 for the california community and if it could be applied elsewhere (yes even A'dam) is better than anything any of us has. I challenge any nay sayers to gather the funds on their own and at least help forge a better bill/prop that not only gives us the rights we desire but applies them in a fashion acceptable to our current government and public society. Still so far all this griping reminds me exactly how a child reacts before a bandage is removed.

Please make sure you are registered to vote! The deadline to register is October 18.

Prop 19 is just too important, we can't let it fail. I can imagine the prohibitionist rhetoric right now if prop 19 fails. I believe it would be a lot harder to introduce another ballot imitative if this one fails. I know prop 19 is not perfect, but I see it as stepping stone to work from, not the end goal. Use the energy from this passing to work and improve it immediately after we've won.

I am not a Cali resident, but I feel I still have a lot riding on it. I have donated as much as I can afford to the yeson19 campaign. I wish I could give more. I have already seen a change in the attitudes, even here in a non med state. It's been on the news many times. I've heard lots of people talking about it locally here. Almost everyone I've heard has been quite positive on it too.

Now I know if prop 19 passes a bunch of other states won't immediately legalize too, but it opens up the discourse to it. The media coverage will be huge if it passes. The headlines will read CALIFORNIA LEGALIZES MARIJUANA. I'm certain that more states would follow, especially after they see the tax revenue generated. I truly believe prop 19 is the best chance the legalization movement has ever had.

Get out there and vote
