When do you Harvest??? Problem - trichomes...

Some of them never seem to change from clear to cloudy/amber. even after weeks and weeks.

Also, it seems like the top of the plant turns amber cause it has more light but the other side of the bud still looks immature as well as bottom nodes....

what's wrong? been 68 days since start of flower (july 23). they were suppose to be done 8 weeks in... am I too late?

cut a bit off, dry it and smoke it.... I would start doing that from about 7.5 weeks on for an 8 week strain .. after running the same plant a few times, you know when to take it to your liking (usually for me thats week 9 on an 8 week strain ;)) :)

all this trichs colour this and pistils colour that means nothing compared to actual smoke testing the product (imvho)

p.s if you're growing from seed and not clone then the 8 weeks is just an indicator and usually the breeders description is based on his fastest finishing (or favourite) pheno of that strain (other phenos can take longer)...

The flowering period is once you see a considerable amount of pistils forming, usually 7-10 days after lights go 12/12, then one would consider 7 days after (aprox day 14-17) as week one. so, sounds like you got a week or so left.... just keep your eye on it... some pics would be great!

I've experienced an odd plant here and there that just never seems to finish or go cloudy/amber. That's why I keep a diary which includes when i started flowering and just take samples of the ones that seem to take forever to finish. If I get a plant that goes beyond it's regular finishing time, I just smoke samples and cut it when the sample seems right.

well i cut it already cut about 50% of them. what does it mean if I cut too early or too late???

There is no right or wrong as to when you should cut them. Cutting them when the majority are cloudy trics leads to a cerebral high, and the more amber trics, the more the body high. There is the entire spectrum in between 70%cloudy/30%amber; 50%/50%; 30%cloudy/70%amber, etc.. To each their own, and with some experimentation you can find which type of high you prefer, and then cut your plants accordingly.

Yo, too early = weaker, but more upper/giggly/daytime buzz. Too late= depends how late u mean, later means more couchlock/sleep effect if it goes too long it will eventually get weaker ad the trichs shrivel up and rot. This would be 100% amber trichs.

okay so these are some of the pics...

cut the plants in half mostly. only took the top colas/buds for now...

should I start and finish the rest of them?

they seem really healthy and green, at this point in its lifestyle majority of thoes leaves should be yellow and very crispy/near death. IMHO looks as if i would run it about another 3-4 days and check. Also apears as if you had a good amount of Nitrogen in your nutes late during flower, i try to cut Nitro out completely during the last few weeks. Also how long have you been flushing?

I don't flush. Most of that damage i believe is from PH problems I had but ended up fixing. the leaves are a little crispy...

damn, if they weren't ready... well, what can I do now??? I figured it'd finish off the process while drying...

anyone else? it just seems like the top portion is done but the bottom portion seems to take forever since it gets less light. or even one side of the plant seems done but the other side not facing the light seems still young...

Then take off the top and lower the lights for another week or two...or take the top and good half and turn the plant around. There is no "right or wrong" way.

Why dont u flush? You gotta flush bro. Even if you just use some Clear Ex but its best to use plain water for the last 2 weeks otherwise its not gonna be very good.

It just sounds like you have a late finishing strain. I dont think you mentioned wat strain you're growing? Are you sure it finishes in 8 weeks? If it's a hybrid plant then it might be more if it's sativa dominant.

I've grown a strain that had all clear trichomes until the end of week 7 & then they started to turn milky & some amber within half a week! All of a sudden she was at peak ripeness.

I agree with DirtySouthTo707 & hashberry, you just gotta flush for a week & a bit unless you're fertilising with organics, in which case, only about a week of flushing.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I had a quick pertinent question. When you are keeping track of your trichome development, how long does it take on average for the trichomes to change color? Once you notice that some of the trichomes are turning color, can you form a rough estimate of how much time is left before harvest?

what are your night time temps? i think i had a problem recently with not having cooler night time temps. i think it delayed maturation.

you should cut a ring round your stem and remove the outer layer down to white wood about a inch long. this starts the cure on the plant it was a technique they used to make gold in the old sativas. ive tried it and i thi nk it works great on sativas but indica it isnt so good on

Having had a mystery strain, it finished quicker then i had predicted and had not had ample time to flush properly. You could tell that the dried product was a much harsher smoke then it should have been, and a sister that was 2 weeks behind, which i had flushed properly ended up being a much better, cleaner smoke imo.

Flushing is a necessity for clean good smoke.

Irreguardless if you flush or not it's your trichs concerned about now and if you know your strain and it's showing amber I would chop lol. You have a 2 week window but you can look this up under harvesting peace out Headband707
