How legitimate is moving to CA and growing to support yourself

IM on the east coast and personally would never move out west in hopes of supporting myself by growing. If u have legitamate biz over there thats one thing. But to go on a whim and hope to make it.. ITs not worth it.. Its sink or swim, and ur odds arent good with the cost of living out there. Id say if u have about 5k saved up, a job and place to stay in advance go for it. Out here were getting 4-5k/lb. I think I will stay put :D

why cali? .lots of people become homeless here.so cal is pricey too.if you get hard up i need someone to water the lawn. i wouldnt consider moving here with less than 20g.otherwise the homeless population would increase by 1.if i had a choice i would go to east coast.not much competition there

Thank you Homer...you said it well.

Really? WTF are the feds going to do? Raid every house in CA? The feds can't MAKE a state do or not do anything except by threat of withholding funds. I believe CA is a net exporter of money to the feds. I'd like to see them try. Civil War II? I'm in...we need some changes...

Like government doesn't have a right to tell me what I can and can't possess. That's why I always mention the Supreme Court...it's GOT to get there. It's a fundamental right...the right of a man to self determine, make their own decisions. It hurts no one!

If the people against it would just stop listening to the lies and try it themselves...we'd have converts.

Like the others said...come if you have another reason, not just to grow.

lazyman is most likely right......

years ago when the seatbelt law was trying to be passed in all the states a few states tried to say "no, we dont need that law"....

so, you know what the feds did? they stopped all federal money to those states, or at least threatened to......

those states complied instantly......

ive seen news reports with the inclination that this will happen to California if the prop passes......

there will be an instant about face if it is voted in......

Sadly, Lazyman paints a realistic picture of the situation.

If your female, and have the proper talents, and startup capitol, you can make it because of what I call the attraction factor. But you must be a really talented grower.

i like this concept, some grass and a bj from a hott grower !!

Those states failing to comply were poor. California is rich. We supply more tax $$$ than anyone.

November should bring some changes to the game, maybe not.

Regardless, you shouldn't be moving to California to grow and get rich, or grow and 'just make it'.

If you are moving to California for some other reasons, then you get a medical marijuana BONUS and a green/yellow light to grow.

It's just an added luxury. Not something to go nuts about.

While the notion that Cali is 'rich' is a bit far-fetched, the idea that the revenue (much needed I might add) that 19 could create is quite attractive, i'm sure.Even if they have no idea of the number yet (anywhere from 800 mil to as much as 1.6 bil)

The ambiguity of the fed on this matter still makes me a tad nervous though.

Betty, I'd definitely try to line-up a part-time gig to help keep you on your feet while you pursue this dream of yours.

Like any other dream, it will be hard fought, sometimes difficult road.

Something to think about for sure. :joint:

Best of luck :ying:

Not even a good idea... cost of living is insane and weed is hardly worth any money in cali.
I think the prices are something like:
A+ grade indoors 3000-3600/lb
A+ outdoors 1800-2200/lb

On the east coast I get:
5k/lb for indoors
3600-4400 for outdoors

People that sell single lbs get 5600-6400/lb
400-560/oz for indoors
350-400/oz for outdoors

something to think about.

Well thanks for all of the replies so far. The variance of responses I'm enjoying, as I'd like to get a full picture of the idea. California aside, are there any states in which you'd suspect the thought of legal growing to support yourself, a 'good' one? I live not far from NJ, and their medical system is starting to move forward from what I hear.

You'd need 30K+ at least to come out here and support yourself growing and not have a job right off the bat. Don't expect to get anything over 3,600/p even for top shelf, and I'm talking top of the line.

The cost of living is ridiculous. My rent is 3k+/month, electricity ~2-3k/month, gas ~500/month, water ~500/month, plus emergency funds for problems(which will happen), food, transportation, etc. I haven't even figured in the cost of the room and the supplies that go in it.

Let's just say you better have a lot of money saved up or have some real good investors or you're gonna be living real real tight for a while. The cost of living is crazy out here and there's tons of competition so you better have some skills.

The supreme court already ruled that the Feds supercede the power of the states on marijuana laws.

Same shit different day. The feds will sue, and precedent has been set where they will most likely win. I would be shocked if they lost based off of the history of this ruling. Prop 19 is no silver bullet, but if it does pass it will get more people pissed at the feds. That is a good thing.

It just means that they can still enforce Federal Law...but if you notice...Prop 215 is still in place-- Nothing so far has been able to knock it out of being a recognized Law in Cali-- So I don't see how you would think that 19 will be either--
