Here's my first grow:

https://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?p=1381864#post1381864

Was just a greenhouse job with some CFLs and some bagseed a couple years ago.

Now I've built a proper setup, with a 1000W HPS with an air cooled hood in a closet for bloom, and a 250W MH with an air cooled hood in a small cabinet area for veg. I made it close up all stealth with weather stripping, magets, and velcro. A wall and a shelf cover everything up nicely. Draws air through an antri-mircrobal/anti-fungal filter, and out through a carbon filter for the smell.

So, this is my first time doing it right, and I've got the genetics I've always wanted. Serious Seeds, the real stuff, AK-47, which I tried once, and was amazing. Also, Bubblegum, which I've always wanted to try, but have never had the chance.

I'm on day 15 now since they sprouted from seed, growing in sunshine mix #4 using reverse osmosis water that starts out around 5.5 ph from the store, I then up it to 6.5

No nutes yet, but I have a Technaflora starter kit http://www.technaflora.com/ with the recipe for success on the way, I've heard good things about their products, and when I called them to ask about retailers, they were extremely helpful.

I started the seeds in peat pellets, no pre-germ, as I heard this was best, though I'm sure everyone has their preference. I think I may have put the peat pellets into these 6" pots too soon though, I probably should have used something smaller to build a better root ball, so I don't have any areas for salt to build up when I start feeding, but I didn't know that at the time, learning every day here...

I'll ask about what I should do on the technaflora forums, maybe just stick to foliar feeding until the roots build up some more or something, and maybe some very light root feeding.

I welcome any advice! Planning to use the AK47 as a mom, she came from a fem seed. She's the big one in the middle with the thermometer in the pot. The other 4 are bubblegum, planning to keep the best looking girl as a mom, and throw any other girls into the bud room.

Since I know the AK is a girl, when's the earliest I should be taking a cutting from her? I suppose I'll just wait until the Bubblegums show sex.

Great choice of genes!

I usually top my mothers at four or five nodes and let them branch out, training them from there... that usually takes a couple of weeks after I pop the top.

From the looks of the last couple pics, I'd say you can cut your first two or three in about three weeks.

Thanks!

I'll keep updating. Bought a new 250W MH bulb yesterday. The one I had was coated, and who knows how old, it had been up in the back yard in an outdoor enclosed fixture.

I rewired it and took the ballast out, mounting it out of the room. I also cut slots in the side of the aluminum case, and mounted a PC fan on the top, drawing air in through the slots, over the reflector, and out the top. The air being blown out is quite warm, works pretty good!

What a difference with the new bulb! I can see how much brighter it is.. though it sure was a pain in the ass trying to change it last night, using a green background on my cellphone as my "green light" Ha-Ha. I'm sure the girls will reward me for it though.

what a grower would do...;)

no advice sorry I'm an absolute beginner who's readin' and readin' for the moment...so I'm taking a seat in the front row and enjoy...
I peeked at your first grow...I'm sure you'll do fine :)

Good luck man. I was so close to buying Bubblegum seeds this time around, but went for some Cinderella and White Widow clones that were available instead to speed things up. Looking forward to seeing your grow progress.

i ordered ak47 last year, seedbo sent me BG, when i complained they said they were right next to each other on the shelf, so i could send them back if i want to, i opted not to since i didnt want to risk losing them in transit, after growing out i wished i had, was not overly impressed with the BG, it was ok but i wasnt looking for ok, hopefully you will get a pheno i did not, good luck

Thanks for all the good wishes!

Got my Technaflora starter kit today, planning to mix up a half strength batch of veg stage formula later on and see how they react to that to start, They're dry on top, though not drooping, I think they could use a watering though, so it's good timing.

When it comes to topping my AK mom, can I use the top as a cutting? If I do this, how much should I take, just the new growth, or one set of branches too?

I'm wondering if I should just veg the bubbegums until they show sex, but then I've heard not all strains will show until you go 12/12, so I don't really know what to do there to figure out which one is going to be my mom, and hwich one I should put into the bud chamber to get some nugs growing. Any suggestions?

Looking good keep up the good work, I'm starting to fall in love with serious seeds for some reason :) Check out my second grow trying some serious seeds chronic. Maybe you will find some advice from others in there that you find helpfull.

Serious is one of the best bro'.
Their seeds germ, I'm 60 for 60, are easy to grow and clone, are crazy uniform, great bag appeal, good/great yield.
Kali is one of the best sativas around, and AK is stuff of legend!
To those of us, who do not have access to "elites", Serious offers some of the best seed strains available! :respect:

Kali was one I wanted too! But I will try it later... I'd also love to get some banana kush for an indica, but I don't see that anywhere in seed form.

What are these elite strains? Us plebs aren't allowed to have them?

From all my reading serious seeds seems to be some of the best.. so I'm really looking forward to it. I'm used to commercial only strains, not much sativa, or anything with a longer flowering period.

I've noticed, Haze rates at the top of many lists. Elites in seed form, if your a sativa fan!!!
Mr. Nice has some coveted strains. Mango Haze, SSH, Nev's Haze, rate among some of the best.
Tom Hill's pure haze is great, also, from what I've learned.
Kali sounds great as well. As I already mentioned.

I've never grown any of these sativa's. I'm passing on learned info.
In my four years here, these sativa's are mentioned often, as among the best.
Heard good things about ACE + sativa as well.

Sorry for the repeated posts, I'm drunk!! :friends:

Day 22

Little bit of leaf curl, I dunno if I should worry about that. I gave them a 3/5 strength feed frist time around with the Technaflora veg formula, and they seem to love it!

I'll go water-water, then feed again with 3/5 to use up what I have mixed, then I"ll go full strength.

Is it advisable to take a top as a clone? I'd like to take the top of the AK for a clone, the big one in the middle.

2 growth shoots and 2 fans leaves I was thinking? I dunno how much to take.

Uh oh!

These two leaves have kicked the bucket, and this other guy has some yellow on it. All other plants look fine except one other one, has some very slight yellowing.

I fed 3 days ago now, and it was 3/5 strength. Is this plant just a weekling? Looks like nuterient burn to me I guess, though I'm not familiar with it. Does it usually occur 3 days after? I would have thought that if it was going to happen, I would have seen it the next day or something.

What should I do about this? Give it some PHed water to dilute the nutrients in the soil? Flush it right out with some PHed water? Or just leave it be? Mist the leaves with water?

I'm hoping this isn't just a precursor to what will happen with the others. I mixed a batch for 3 gallons, and used 5 gallons of water, so I'm a little surprised, I thought I was being plenty cautious.
