Is this really how people trim? Really?

Watch urban grower trim a bud:

Okay, now I've been growing for many years, but have never helped anyone else trim. In fact, until the last year I've never even met another grower.

In any event, I've always trimmed each leaf off at the stem, spreading and digging into the bud if need be. Only the small single blade leaves on the top of the bud get snipped. A few of my trimmers have tried to get away with trimming like the guy in this video but I've always showed them the "right way" to do it.

Am I an anal retentive prick? Maybe this is why trimming takes so long compared to what I've read on this site. If I did it like him I probably wouldn't even need help. I'm only harvesting 1.5-2lbs at a time.

To me, it just looks so much better completely nude of leaves.

nothin wrong with taking your time to do it right. I trim the same way you do, each leaf at it's base.

But doing large yields(lbs) without a trim machine would (my guess) get laborous, so speed helps get the job done.

ya, thats the way to do it, scissors parallel with the bud.......

thats the method that that my team of trimmers do, lb every 4 hours per person.....

finished product comes out looking great, alot of the leaf falls off when dry and your cutting the bud off the stem....

but pulling the fan leaves like that, i wouldn't do.......

LOL Look at the pistils on the bud he's trimming. I don't see one that isn't white, the buds are all leaf and could probably have gone week or two at least. That's how you trim when you don't care .... Anyone else notice how much stem he left on the bottom? I want to see that nug dry I bet it looks gross.

i bet it looks just fine.

its hard to see the crystals when filming with bad lighting.

i would have given just a little bit more time to it but not much. i also wouldn't pull off the big leaves like that.

Wow I hate how he man handled his bud..

And I dont dig into my bud to get the stem of a fan leaf, I just attempt to get any part of the stem. If I cant, I can't.

If I can see the leaf stem well enough to clip it, I do, but if it is just leaf tips sticking out I clip the tips. I don't dig around to clip off 100% of every leaf, but take a little more time than in the vid.

That guy is about the sloppiest trimmer ever. I hope he was being quick just for the video. I don't grow a plant with love for months on end just to hack it up like that...

I mostly trim the other way, perpendicular. Sugar leaves near the top really only get ends clipped.

Tell me what I'm doing wrong, just the way that seemed natural from the start.

I use the fiskars micro. If they break you email a photo to fiskars and they mail you a new pair. I bought 3 pair a few years ago and have had 2 replaced.

Couple trimmed shots

I am very meticulous with my trimming and try to get as much leaf as possible off, if that means double or triple manicure when im bored and stoned then so be it :).Then again I don't have as much as Remo lol. No matter how much you trim, there is nothing like smoking pure calyx's picked off a bud from a fine sativa dom. strain though.

Is that what you would consider a hippy cut, or standard?

I trim every stem that is easily obtainable, then crop close to the bud. Maybe I'll relax a bit this round.

Not to derail, but I bet even sugar leaves with a long enough cure could be smoked! Haha.

But yeah, no, the guy in the video sucks. lol.

Okay, I feel a bit better. I though I was the only goober cutting the whole leaf out.

Maybe next round I'll do a few with the scissors parallel to see what they look like dry. I hadn't thought of the fact many leaves will come off when I strip the buds from the stem after drying.

Thanks everybody for replies. Your the man KB, I'd pay to trim your buds. Well, not really but I'd be stoked.

An GeorgeSmiley thanks for the tip on the fiskars, I bought my first pair a few days ago. I'm all about free replacements. And your buds look great!

I pay my trimmers a gram/hour so time isn't a huge cost for me. I usually only have to pay out about an oz a harvest.

I'd fire him so fast. Cannot stand that type of work. Had one person out of a large crew trimming like this last season and was able to notice that guy's buds in the P's easily.

I also tell people helping me to keep the scissors parallel and not spend too much time trying to get every leaf when trimming fresh the way he is. Although if he is gonna trim anymore than one nug he better get a pair of spring handled micro tips, those paper scissors blow.

I would then hang the bud as is, and once dry go over it again for a final clean up. Also once its completely dry if you let it tumble in a turkey bag most loose leaf will fall off then I usually strain with pasta strainer.

I guess it really depends if its gonna be head stash or not....

Oh yah, just because it has crystals must be ready to harvest...

I would not smoke your weed.
