Can a lack of intake cause premature yellowing?

Man, I hope that was a suitable treatment. Because I went ahead and did it. Covered the top of all my soil with about a 1/4 to 1/2".

Thanks for coming through guys. Hooray IC infirmary.

Okay. So I ran over my foot and shot the neighbors dog. My sister just came out to the family...and my wife is giving birth to a three headed freak baby.

Just checking if anybody is still reading this. :disappoint:

LOL..Yes we are still reading.... You have to identity the insect to really know what to do. Adding a inch of DE will help with most insects. That stuff just shreds them. I think (this is a pure guess) you have root aphids.

Thank god you're still reading. I was beginning to feel like I was on an island.

I would've waited for a reply but I thought it foolish when I realize that at the rate pests multiply, hours matter.

I'm attempting to let the soil really dry out. Plants have really yellowed out a lot more. :( I was supposed to feed last night but I didn't. I put down the D.E. according to the information I found on the intratubes.

At what point do I remove it? I've read that if the plants get too dry that I can feed/water through foliar. And I can always water from below. But at some point I'd like to start watering again. I've read not to water that much into the soil and that it needs to remain dry.

I'm just a little lost at this point.

:(

And I scraped off the D.E. on a couple of plants just around the rooter plug where I saw the most of them. I didn't see anything moving. But the pests were small and white and the D.E. is white. I didn't see any pests. Obviously that doesn't mean they're not there in the soil. Just not on the surface anymore...or I just can't see them now. But that means I can't find one to photograph.

I will try to borrow a better camera with micros so I can get a shot up. But I may have a hard time finding any of them to photograph.

And one more thing:

What would you suggest when I go to "clean" the room after this harvest (or slash and burn if I don't get this under control soon)?

And on edit: Thank you thank you thank you x 1000.

I'm thinking I should probably sterilize my soil from here on out as well. I've heard about the black trash bag out in the sun. That doesn't sound very precise I've heard about using the microwave and using the oven. But we use a larger amount of soil and I think that would take a long time.

Any other way to sterilize it? Like I said, Roots Organic.

Did you determine what the pest is? It looks to me like at least part of it was coming from the close distance to the light. I've had the same thing happen to me numerous times although not quite as severe. If you do in fact have root aphids that's definitely your other source. If not I'd say it's mostly the light. Tell me are the leaves that are being shaded by the top leaves also yellow? A good way to tell if it is from too intense of light is to check that. If they are not yellow directly underneath you've solved your problem. if they are yellow the chances of it being from the light are much smaller imo of course.

Other than that everything looks good man, show us a few more pictures :tiphat:

I have had early yellowing before with Humboldt Nutrients Organic line before. They have a new and revised feeding schedule. It definitely looks like nitrogen deficiency. Up the "grow" a bit. The bloom is at 0-10-0 and the grow is only 3-x-x. I would recommend Wegener in your next feeding. I switched to this during veg then when started 12/12 I went straight to the HN. Haven't seen the same early yellowing like last round with the HN. Are you also using the Calcium and Magnesium? I switched to the equilibrium and like it better than the 2 separate formulas.
If you are using the Mayan Mycrozyme it needs to be made into a tea first. What you buy on the shelf is a concentrate.

No...all the leaves are yellowing. I've taken the lights up to about 24-30 inches. That was many days ago. In the past few days, the leaves have started falling off at the bottom. It seems to be getting worse...and picking up pace :(

Still 30 days left on them. Please lord, don't let me lose this crop.

And thank you. You've known me for a fair bit on this forum and I don't think I've ever posted any pics. I'm still a new grower and a bit self conscious.

So again. Thank you.

Yes. Per instructions we brew the tea for 24 hours.

I have MagiCal but have only been using it on my SC99 babies as I've heard they are cal mag whores.

I've been using this:

WS-Org%20Molasses.jpg

...since day 1. I was hoping that it had enough Cal and Mag in it to deal with the needs of any normal variety. Perhaps I should add MagiCal to my feedings. Or should I add it to waterings too. Can't I create more problems for myself if I don't use it correctly or if say the plants don't need it?

And are you using the Wegener all throughout veg?

Bummer man, that sucks. Look hard for the root aphids.. They are probably there if you have already seen bugs crawling around the surface.

And homie you got nothing to be ashamed of, plants look great, you're on your way to a dank harvest. i've had plants do this before and you know what? They will be ok and still be super dank just will yield a little less.

keep em coming!

You're the fucking man, Hemp! :dance013:

This is my first time using the wegeners throughout the veg cycle with watering in between. I don't have the yellowing like last time where I just used HN straight through. Yellowing last time for me started on a few plants 2 weeks in 12/12! Yield sucked! Get some wegeners and give them a good dose or 2 of that. The MagiCal should go in with your normal feeding. Everything looks great besides the yellowing!
Maybe try to spread them a bit further apart and spread each girly out with some stakes so that the bottoms can get a bit more light.

Thanks. But I'm not sure you read the thread. We are leaning towards pests. I've seen them. I just couldn't identify them. DEFINITELY a soil borne pest. No camera with micros to take a picture. And now they're covered with Diatomaceous Earth. So I can't really get pics.

As Selfhemployed said, if the leaves are yellow on the under side...and because I already took my lights way up (I have 10' ceilings...I could go WAY up if it was really necessary) and it's still getting worse, we're leaning towards the plethora of little beasties I found around the rooter plugs in the soil. On the first page someone noted that it looked like a phantom cal/mag issue brought on by root aphids. That's when I checked the soil and low and behold, some kind of soil borne insects. In essence, we believe they are eating the root hairs and the plants can't uptake nutrients. So, if I don't take care of them, I could put all the nutrients in the world into the soil...and not much is going to happen.

The spacing: We're working on it. We're kind of confined. But we have a plan to give them all more space...on the next go around. I used to stake. Now I supercrop. A lot (even started using it on my flower beds around my yard). It opens them up just like staking and the plants really seem to respond positively. I do, however, run out of space really fast when I supercrop. So...yes in the very near future (perhaps during this grow...we are working it out).

Last watering was on Friday. I plan on removing the D.E. tomorrow and watering. Soil should be good and dry by now. I'm not sure how I should re-introduce watering. Even though I missed their regular feed on Monday, I've heard it's not good to throw nutrients into dry roots. So a few days after tomorrows watering, I plan to feed them again.

I think that covers everything. Oh, and my question about the MagiCal. Can it cause problems if the plants don't need it? (remember I use black strap unsulfured molasses that contains both Calcium and Magnesium).

Okay. Removed the layer of D.E. and watered. I added a tsp of MagiCal per gallon, and pH'd it.

I still see some little beasties. The population looks smaller. But it doesn't not appear it killed them all. :(

I turned the AC down to 63 (though with the lights on it's tough to get it that low) in an attempt to slow their reproduction. Will this work? I don't know. I thought the D.E. would work better. Though it does appear to work.

Azamax doesn't seem to do it. Mosquito Dunks don't seem to do it. D.E. doesn't seem to do it. I've got some pyrethrum, but they're too far into bloom to use that.

I really don't know what the fuck. I am going to attempt to stave off another boom with the lower temperatures and just continue with monitoring them. If they get bad again, I will just try the D.E. again (as that was at least somewhat effective).

Other than that, all I can think of to do is hold on through this harvest then sterilize and bomb the shit out of everything. I'm trying to figure out a way to sterilize all our soil for the next run as well (I'm taking suggestions on how to do this with a large amount so please....suggest away).

Any other suggestions? Any responses? Anyone want to call me an asshole?...a saint?

Azamax is effective against a very long list of bugs and critters. It can be used as a foliar and stalk treatment or as a soil drench. Then maybe a flush with a H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide) solution on the next watering to sterilize the medium.

I just got a new rubbermaid 50 gallon trash can I bubble my water in. But this started happening before I put the new trash can into the room.

even though you've found root bugs here something to consider
I was talking to an experienced RO DI-filter guy that does work with salt water reef tanks and grows
he said if you use a plastic trash can, certain types will leach chems into your water unless its food grade plasic.
he said rubbermaid has one thats good to use, its little brute? or brute, they're the blue ones. I need to get back up with him to verify exactly which one it is.

something to think about tho...

I pasturize all my soil(FF OF) @180 that goes into the garden.
it takes a awhile but well worth imo
