anyone ever see amber trichs while pistils are still white?

Indoor, Rez's strawberry diesel used to finish with completely couldy/amber trichomes while the pistils were quite white. Same with the legit Chem D cut indoor - lots of people take her way too long because they wait for the pistils to change color instead of examining the trichs. That all said, it doesn't look like you have anything amber on your calyxes, and that's where I really focus when examining trichome maturity.

It's always a pleasure to look at your backyard paradise - can't wait for the next peek.

Wow everyone is getting rain, I feel like I am in a vortex, we didn't get a drop here last night but I heard five miles away they got some rain and were shaking some plants. I look forward to seeing your plants and covering structure, good luck have a good day LH

Don't forget to increase the airflow under the new roof. As much as u can. Will it be permanent?

localhero, I just went through your thread to date, and you're doing an incredible job! I like your positive attitude, and with all of your past experiences it seems like you can create dang near anything - sweet work and share on all of the DIY projects!

I'm looking forward to following up on your harvest - some sweet strains raised in a sweet way!

Be good out there, amigo!

I think the roof will be for the night-time only when the dew drops. As for amber trichs have you ever heard of a strain called Amstel Gold? That strain would exhibit the gold trich pheno a lot. FYI there were some northern Colombian genetics that would produce red trichs. The oil that came from the buds was red too.

Thanks for all the great words and good input guys!

My chair rolled over my usb connector for my camera. bummed. not quite done with the canopies just yet anyways. i love pvc work. im using home depot transparent plastic as the covering. this will be a permanent structure. the plan is to plant right in these pots as soon as i pull their current inhabitants. theres no such thing as frost in la so i figure why not? a perpetual outdoor, lets do it. the coverings will serve these functions:

1- keep the heavy morning dew off my ladies, stem/stop the bud rot.
2- act as rain protection for the next batch of outdoor.
3- (theory) take some of the sun off the final stage of buds to theoretically prevent the browning out sun burn effect of outdoor. feel free to call bulshit on this theory.

nomaad- im not sure how to increase air flow. they are just canopies though. its a trade off between a high roof pitch for rain and a low roof pitch to trap as little hot air as possible.

thanks again feb for inspiring this idea. i should have done this a long time ago. i dont know what you would call this, like a top green house?

ill get some pics up as soon as i can jakez and everyone, hopefully tomorrow.

Thanks Wooly, and as promised here are some pics. camera on the g2 is weak but better than nothing..

yesterday we were able to finish the framing on the first 1/3 of the garden and toss up some plastic just before dusk. this part is the most difficult due to varrying plant size and neighbor consideration. this will all be tightened up and tweaked today.

this is how dry the buds stayed under the canopy last night- (bullrider)

and here is how wet the uncovered plants were- (Banana Kush)

that water is not rain, thats just the natural morning dew ive been getting every day, making perfect bud rot conditions. my concern with the canopies is the opaqueness of the plastic home depot sheeting. ive read up on several sites where people claim that it works fine, but if i had the time to wait i would have ordered some proper 4 year greenhouse sheeting with 91% light transmission. I cant find anywhere the light transmission specs for polyethylene construction plastic, so please chime in if you know.

again thanks everyone for the good words!

nice quick fix for the rain localhero, hope you get the info on the plastic sheeting.

garden is looking top, weather wet or dry, lol. i know exactly the burnt look you mean on most outdoor. will be interesting to see if your sun filter does anything for the color. did you do a black box this year? some of that stuff i saw in pics didn't have that dark look, but then again it was still fresh when pics were shot. but i bet making 12/12 rhythms on the field is the only way to get more of a classic indoor look to the dried and cured end results.

I have some Tom Hill Haze, Ace Golden Tiger, Sam's OH X SK#1 and Paradise DelaHaze running.
I have been following this thread and I think I am going to spend the extra $150 and wait an extra week to get the 100% light diffusing 11 mil poly.
It is real tempting to go to Home Depoy and grab the 6 mil poly, but I'll go the other way and let you know how it goes.
Some of the Golden Tigers and one of the THOHaze have just started flowering and I get the feeling they won't be ready til late november through late December.

thanks for stoppin by GoodKarma, Gaius

yeah those sativas can wait. if all i had were long season plants i would opt for the higher quality poly too. i never get bud rot on my sats, pm yes but never rot.

Gaius- no i didnt do any black boxes this year, next year i will if everything works out right. the canopies are mainly for keeping the night wetness off the ladies. that one pic was from dew, not rain. thats how nasty it is over here a few miles from the beach.

Nice Save LH, you needed that. It looks like it is about to rain in the pic, wow SoCal gets rain early sorry you have to deal with that, but it looks like you have it taken care of nice job on design. Quick, Light, and Efficient very nice!!! Some of you sativas still look like that have a little while to go to?

thanks guys,

time will tell how well they perform, they would have been alot simpler if i had planted in perfect rows. hopefully the heat is out of the way so i dont cook the buds in humidity right up inside the tops - so far though any breeze that comes through here still moves the branches and thats a good sign right?

Brother ganja -
yeah for sure the sativas have some more time on them, im thinking between mid oct and begining nov. the good thing is that so far the silver buddah this time compared to when she was outside last year from seed is having much much better and larger bud development. first go last summer was a total dogshit exercise in futility however. i didnt have a clue, just tossed out a bunch of 5 gallon pots and watched nature own me.

the hindu kush and the silver buddah were survivors of last summers mistreatment. the hindu because she blued up, smoked great and didnt get ANY PM while PM owned the rest of the yard. the buddah because she is a great smoke, a thai cross and the only one out of 20 something seeds to pop. i wasnt clueless at germinating, all 10 femmed seeds of the hindu popped.

what made the hindu great last year - her powdery mildew resistance- was a non issue this summer because there is no PM in the yard thanks to toms recipe. However, she is getting KILLED by bud rot which never showed up last year. shes the reason i built these tops. her nugs are so much denser and larger outside this season compared to any of the indoor runs ive had with her. that coupled with the heavy ass dew weve been getting was too much for her to stave off. hopefully this saves her and stops the spread. love that plant.

i had a pic of the hk bud, just cant find it now. i know i posted it on Humbolt Locals thread a while back. as soon as i find it ill put it up. it hasnt shown color yet outdoors this year. a few leaves here and there, but not to the extent it did last season and indoors.
