Having problems with rep

Grey reputation comes from members who haven't been registered long or don't have enough posts for their rep to count

That is not true I have current gray marks from people who have over 400 posts.

This problem I am having is with the helpful post rep only. I know three of them were from old members the rest could be new. It was fixed once before although that was at a time when they were getting all the bugs out of the new system.

I think the helpfuls stack up and you get a point per 3 or something.. it's slightly buggy and you do sometimes get greys from members with good standing, but if you watch the points, they jump a few at a time and then other times stay still (with regards the greys)

Yes, it is from the helpful post...it works a tad differently then using the rep icon..

I just got an iota of info from one of our accomplished members. His conclusion was there is no problem. The rep system is working as it should. You are only enabled a definite amount of helpful post points a day. Once you run out you can still give them rep but no points or green box are given, it's the thought that counts. It makes sense to me.

New members can only give out grey reputation, it's been like that since rep was introduced. If a new member gives you grey rep then posts enough to become a full member the rep doesn't change from grey to green

When the helpful post feature is used you get 1/4 of the rep you would normally give using the rep icon, so if your rep power is less than 4 you won't give any points with the helpful post feature. Time registered here plays a big part in how much rep you give out, not just how much rep you have yourself

The helpful post feature was only added in January, neutral rep has been around as long as rep has. I remember getting a load of neutral (grey) rep back in Feb 2006 when members from OG were just signing up over here after OG went down
